Clinique Take The Day Off Make Up Remover
Advantages: quality, non irritating, buy cheap off ebay, lasts for ages, removes makeup well
Disadvantages: fullsize price?
Clinique offer quite a few different makeup removers. The range includes balms, milks and various washes. Whilst some claim to remove only eye makeup, Take The Day Off Makeup Remover is suitable for lids, lashes and lips. This makeup remover won a SHE Magazine Beauty Award this year for the best eye makeup remover.
This makeup remover is allergy tested and 100% fragrance free. It is also ophthalmologist tested so suited for those with sensitive eyes and who wear contact lenses. It is suitable for all skin types. Take The Day Off claims to remove mascara, eye makeup and lipstick thanks to the two way formula. To use, shake well and moisten a cotton pad or ball. Sweep over eyes and lips to remove makeup and then wipe off.
Regardless of which size of bottle you have, the packaging offered is a purple, transparent plastic bottle with a silver, safety cap lid. Black writing adorns the bottle. Inside, there is an oil and water type separation and the bottle once shook, combines the two layers. Once opened, the makeup remover should be used up within 6months.
Clinique products can be purchased online and on the high street. Stockists include Debenhams, House of Fraser and John Lewis. 125ml is priced around £14.50 though it is worth looking out for special offers where you can take advantage of a free beauty set with 2 purchases. If you wish to purchase a trial sized bottle which is identical in design to the full size bottle, try ebay as 30ml/50ml bottles can be picked up exceptionally cheap.
I wear makeup almost daily (sometimes I really cannot be bothered). I try to avoid going to bed with traces of makeup on my face. Whilst I am happy to use cleansing or baby wipes around my face, my eyes are particularly sensitive and I prefer to use a separate product for this area. I have been a fan of Clinique for a few years now but have had mixed experiences with them. I used to buy bulk lots of Clinique for ebay purposes but more often than not, I buy for personal use.
A few months ago, I received 2 x 50ml bottles of Take The Day Off Makeup Remover. I decided to keep them for myself and believe it or not, I am still on my first bottle and that is with regular use. I will point out here there is absolutely no difference except height between the smaller and larger bottles and the product inside each is the same. The packaging is quite attractive which is common with Clinique. The addition of the safety cap confirms this is may be a strong product and I keep mine in my makeup bag away from my son.

It takes a while to get used to opening this bottle. There is no noticeable scent except a slight hint of makeup wipe aroma to the liquid and visually, it looks very oily. By the end of the day, my eye makeup isn't too strong but if left on over night, it can cause irritation to my eyes. I tend to use a few cotton pads with this makeup remover. The opening is quite large so I recommend placing the pad over the top and slightly tipping the bottle to moisten the pad. You really don't need much on the pad to effectively remove makeup.
As I sweep the pad over my eyelids, it feels cooling and refreshing. Eye shadow is immediately swept away and clings to the pad. Turning the pad around, I can quickly remove eye shadow from my other lid without needing to apply any more liquid to the pad. If I use a cleansing wipe to remove mascara, my eyelashes never feel fully clear of mascara. Using a small amount of this liquid on another pad and sweeping it over my lashes, effectively removes all traces of mascara. I don't need to rub which is ideal as that may cause irritation to my eyes. The liquid seems to grip the mascara, gently pulling it away from my lashes without causing damage to them.
Two dirty pads down and my eyelids and lashes are free from makeup. At first I was a little unsure about what else I should do once my eyes were clear. The makeup remover had left a greasy layer on my skin which although not intrusive, made me a little paranoid! Further investigation led me to discover that the area must then be wiped over. This involved another pad but within seconds, my eye area was free of makeup and greasiness. All that remained was a silky soft texture and thankfully I didn't experience any irritation.
I rarely wear lipstick as my lips tend to become very dry and this isn't a good look with lipstick. For the day where my lips behave, I tend to use a lip stain. By the end of the day, the colour is often fading but does need a little help to be fully removed. I was a little bit anxious about applying an oily, cosmetic product to my lips. Again with a cotton pad, I applied a small amount of liquid and swept the pad across my lips. I could feel the oiliness on my lips but any colour effortlessly swept away and with the other end of the pad I dried my lips off. The makeup remover is very gentle on my lips and doesn't leave a weird taste allowing me to eat and drinks afterwards.

Now, I have been using this almost daily for around 3months. I still have around 25ml left of a 50ml bottle so a 125ml bottle would last me around 1 year. Let's make sense of this. One bottle is designed to be disposed off after 6months so for me and many, it doesn't actually make sense to purchase the larger bottle. The smaller bottles are ideal for placing inside a makeup bag or overnight bag for travelling and keep fresher than the larger bottle. Unless you are going to be sharing with someone else in your home, I would recommend hitting ebay where you will find 2 x 50ml for under £6.00.
*~*Recommendation and Conclusion*~*
I think it's a far gone conclusion that this makeup remover comes with a full recommendation from me. It is gentle on sensitive facial areas, effectively removes makeup without irritation and only a tiny amount is required so financially, it is very much worth the price tag.
Thanks for reading :)
