De La Mer Cleansing Lotion
If you have read my other De La Mer reviews you will know about my eccentric aunt who often buys me products from this range for Christmas. Unfortunately, some of the products I have are not in the Dooyoo catalogue and some of the products in the catalogue I have never used or owned, cleanser however is one of the lucky ones that I can review. Other items I have used include hand cream and Seaweed Extract Night Repair Cream that I hope to review at some time as they were both very good.
The cleanser is a cream cleanser designed for everyday use. It is packaged in a metal outer with a clear lid and pump action dispenser, the packaging is the lovely butter cream colour with green writing and a dash of peach colour. It looks understated and classic on the bathroom shelf or dressing table. The outer packaging is a green cardboard box wrapped in sealed cellophane outer with the La Mer logo on the front with its familiar splash of peachy colour.
Dispensed via the simple pump the cream is of average texture neither too thick or too runny and has a soft silkly texture. De La Mer suggest that the product can be used with or without water, thus whichever method of facial cleansing you use this will suit. The cleanser has a subtle, pleasing scent that is reminiscent of sunny skies and cleanliness, there is not a chemical smell at all and the fragrance is a little different to other products I have used in the range.
De La Mer claim that: "It thoroughly and gently removes dirt, debris and eye makeup from the skin without irritation, leaving skin feeling soft, nourished and conditioned. May be used with or without water." I have to agree, it is gentle and pleasant to use and can be used to remove eye make-up as well as facial make-up and as a general facial cleanser. They also state that it leaves skin feeling soft, nourished and conditioned, again I have to agree, but is it better than other products of a lesser price? I have to admit that the only products I have used that are as good as this are in the £20 plus price range, however as I am on a low income, I do find cheaper products adequate for my needs.
To use I apply a pumps worth onto my finger tips, share between both hands and apply gently in upward sweeping movements to my face, I then use a second pump to gently smooth over my eye area, eyelashes and neck, the eye make-up is then removed by a moistened cotton wool ball and the remainder I rinse off thoroughly with warm water. When I have this to use, I tend to use it in the evening and a foaming cleanser in the shower in the morning. I also tend to mostly still use an eye make-up remover first out of habit and especially if I have used waterproof mascara as I find a good purpose designed product the best option for removal of something that is carefully designed to stay put all day. However, the fact that the facial cleanser is also suitable for the eye area is great and it does mean I can mop up any remaining make-up with this cleanser rather than a second or third application of eye make-up remover, which makes this cleanser much less troublesome that alternative product systems.
The cleansing lotion is suitable for normal to dry skin and does not include any harsh detergents to upset sensitive skin and it really is very pleasant to use. Containing the De La Mer unique Miracle Broth it is soothing and pleasing to use. I always have healthy skin when I use this cleanser and I do highly rate it.
As with the rest of the range I was quite shocked to discover just how expensive it is, however, I would gladly buy this all the time if I could. I do love receiving the range and it is my little corner of luxury.
This is not a highly stocked range either, so it may be necessary to look on-line at places like Selfridges.co.uk
Conclusion & Stars:
I do like the luxury of using De La Mer products and find this facial cleanser very good and enjoyable to use. I would buy it myself if I could afford to. Therefore I heartily recommend this for those who can easily afford it. Around £60.00 for 200ml where stocked.
Four out of Five stars because it is very good, but oh that price tag hurts.
