A good cleanser for clean and clear skin

Being a bit of a beauty product addict, I always like to try out new things and vary the brands that I use. One of my most exciting discoveries has been finding online companies that provide beauty boxes. The idea is that you will be sent a box every month, and this will usually contain a selection of various make-up, skin care, fragrance products etc for you to try out. I have been trying a few from different suppliers, and received a sample of this Dead Sea Spa Magik Gentle Cleansing Facial Wash in a previous delivery from "Birchbox". You can find further information at www.birchbox.co.uk.

Product description: "Specially formulated for all skin types, this gentle wash naturally cleanses and removes deep-seated impurities. It utilises a special blend of natural ingredients that gently cleanse the skin and fight bacteria. It can be used daily to remove traces of make-up while preventing the appearance of blemishes, spots and blackheads."

This Dead Sea Spa Magik Gentle Cleansing Facial Wash costs RRP £8.80 for 150ml, and I received a 25ml sample to try out. It comes in a simple white tube which looks quite boring and uninspired. One of my pet hates is not being able to see how much product is left inside of the packaging, and the solid coloured plastic makes this impossible. There is a screw-off lid at the base of the tube, and the cleanser is dispensed through a small hole underneath the cap.

Recommended directions for use: Squeeze a small amount into the palm of your hand and work into a lather. Apply to damp skin and massage for 20-30 seconds, adding more water if necessary. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Avoid contact with the eyes.

The cleanser itself is a bright shade of pure white, with a pearly shimmer to it. It appears to have a foamy texture but is quite thick, and works up into a light creamy lather. I followed the instructions and found that it is much easier to use if I first spread it between my hands before rubbing onto my face. This means that it covers over my face and neck easily and makes it quicker than trying to lather it up at the same time as applying it. When washing with this cleanser I use it all over my face and neck. It feels very gentle and leaves my skin perfectly clean and clear afterwards, as well as balancing out my combination skin-type so I do not end up with any breakouts of excess oils around the T-zone. I have to make sure to keep this well away from my eyes, as I made the mistake of once using this to remove my eye make-up, and instantly experienced a sharp stinging pain which required washing out with lots of fresh water. It does advise to avoid contact with the eyes, and I certainly learned my lesson. Because this cleanser is not suited to removing eye make-up I have to use an additional separate product specifically for removing eye make-up, and this means it is not as practical as some multi-purpose cleansers. I have also noticed that this product can sometimes leave my skin feeling a bit tight and dry, so I make sure to follow up with a moisturising cream as part of my skincare routine. This cleanser is intended for use on all skin types, so should be suitable for most people. I suffered a little outbreak of sensitivity around xmas-time, and the cleanser worked just as well then without causing any irritation to the affected areas.

Overall this is a nice cleanser that gets my face squeaky clean, but it can make my skin feel a little tight sometimes. It is also a bit of a nuisance that I have to use a separate product to remove my eye make-up. I can recommend it as a good cleanser, but I would probably choose to stick with a more practical cleanser that I can use around my eyes as well.

A great product at a great price :)

Dead Sea Spa Magik Gentle Cleansing Facial Wash

I received a sample tube (25ml) in a beauty box a few months ago and I have been using it on and off since then and I really underestimated this brand and this product when I first received it!

      Product description (from amazon uk)

"To clean and freshen the skin. This cleansing wash is a special blend of natural ingredients that gently cleanse the skin and fight bacteria. The rich lather penetrates and removes deep-seated impurities. It should be used daily to prevent the appearance of blemishes, spots and blackheads. Gently removes all traces of make up."

      About the product

I have the 25ml tube because it came as a sample in one of the beauty boxes I was subscribed to. The tube is white and blue plastic and the packaging in my opinion looks so boring and outdated! The product claims to gentle cleanse the skin and 'fight' bacteria.

      Using the product

One of the first things I notice about this product is the colour, it is an off white colour but it has a kind of pearlescent sheen to it - it looks really strange and luminous, like pearls. The scent is the second thing I noticed, as you may know if you have read any of my skin care reviews before, I do not like scented skin care products as they may irritate my skin. However, this product has a slight scent but it doesn't irritate my skin, thankfully. The scent is a bit floral and sweet but it is musky too - it smells really strange and quite old fashion/musty in a not very nice way. I would prefer if this product was unscented.

The skin and colour of the wash do not affect its function - the face wash is really nice. I use a small amount, about a five pence sized amount or just a bit less each time I use it. I wet my face and hands and then I massage the cleanser into my skin gently - I find that while I am using it, it does not irritate my skin and it feels really smooth and almost like it isn't there on my skin. While I use the cleanser, the scent intensifies. It doesn't really lather at all, it just turns to a white cream almost on the skin depending on how much water is on the skin prior to using this product. I use a wet flannel that is damp with hot water to remove the cleanser so it is a bit like a hot cloth cleanser in that way - I find the best way to remove cleansers is with the hot flannel as it slightly exfoliates the skin and the heat is good for the pores and circulation. It removes easily from the skin and it leaves my skin feeling really smooth, clean and not dry/stripped - I then follow with my serum and moisturiser. Overall, it is a really nice gentle face wash and I bought buy the full size in the future.

      Price and availability

This cleanser can be bought full size (150ml or 5 oz) from amazon.co.uk for about £8.50, feelunique for £8.80, holland and barratt for £9.25 and other online stores - you may be able to find it on ebay too.

      *Gentle and easy to use
*Leaves my skin smooth, not irritated and clean
*Doesn't strip the skin or cause any negative effects
      *Fairly cheap, in my opinion

*Scent isn't very nice and the packaging is very outdated

Thank you for reading my review
