Excellent for dry skin but expensive for what is basically an emollient cream

am in two minds about this cream. On the one hand I cannot deny it is absolutely fantastic as a rich facial moisturiser for very dry skin but on the other hand to me it is almost indistinguishable from E45 or some other emollient cream which I can get a lot cheaper than what this costs.

This cream costs nearly £8 for a 75ml bottle so it isn’t as expensive as some premium creams but then it isn’t as cheap as some either.

What you get is a tube of very thick white cream which smells exactly like an emollient cream at least to me. It also has the same texture and feel as an emollient cream too. It goes on skin and immediately you can notice that it takes away any dryness in your skin. It feels fairly heavy and quite greasy which is what you want when you are buying something for very dry skin.

I have seen some people say that it is suitable for all skin types but I can’t see how that it would be suitable for greasy skin because it really is heavy and makes my skin really shiny and greasy and I certainly wouldn’t leave the house whilst wearing it and would only wear it at night in the house.

I might sound a bit negative about this cream but I do think it was fantastic at making my skin soft and taking away all dryness that was in it. I only say about the similarities to emollient cream because I can get the same effects from that for a fraction of the price. Unlike an emollient though this also offers UVA and UVB protection though they are very reticent at saying what level of protection that it gives.

I have used and liked a lot of the Dead Sea Magik products but this isn’t one that I would buy again purely because of the fact that I think I can get something similar for less money but I can’t take away from the fact that it is excellent for very dry skin.

      • "Will definately help with dry skin conditions"

      • "Left my skin greasy and shiny"
      • "A bit too rich for me "

A bit too rich for me

I love using anything with Dead Sea Salts in them because I am a big fan of the mineral rich salts and believe that they are one of the best things for a whole host of skin complaints.

One thing that I wasn’t keen on was the rich moisturiser because for me it was just too rich and greasy for my skin.

When I bought this it was because there was a 3 for 2 offer on and I was buying something else from the range. I get really dry skin in the winter and this is supposed to protect skin from the elements.

It is supposed to be light and non greasy but I found that when I used it the moisturiser reminded me almost exactly of an emollient cream. It was really heavy and greasy looking on my skin and it left it with a shiny greasy layer that took ages to soak in.

I do have to say that if you have dry skin then this will defiantly help it and any dryness that you might have will be gone after using this but unless your skin is particularly parched you will probably find that this is too heavy for you.

I just didn’t like how this felt at all on my skin. It was more the fact that I just couldn’t get it to absorb properly so I was left with this greasy layer on the top of my skin. It does absorb eventually but it takes ages and until then there is no mistaking that you have something on your skin.

It does work and left my skin feeling amazing but I just didn’t like the feel of it so I personally wouldn’t buy it again. I can imagine that this would be great for things like eczema and other dry itchy skin conditions but if you just have some normal dry skin then it will probably be too rich for you.

      A lovely daily moisturiser

      - Why I Bought -
One skin care item I just can't live without is a decent day cream. I use this as part of my morning routine without fail so I get through quite a lot of pots and tubes. I usually opt to try a new product rather than sticking to one particular brand but if a cream is particularly good I do sometimes buy it again. In April I had just ran out of my last day cream and was pondering what to buy next when I happened to receive a reward voucher from Holland and Barrett. I have often been tempted by the lovely skin care ranges they have to offer and it seemed much more exciting to use my coupon to buy a day cream rather than spending it on vitamins. After much deliberation I bought the Dead Sea Spa Magik Rich moisturiser.

      - The Packaging -
The packaging for this brand is very simple. All the products have white containers with blue writing and lids and a logo that is meant to be the sand and sea. The rich moisturiser fits in well with this theme. It comes in a white plastic tube with a blue plastic screw on lid. It is described as a nourishing moisturiser for all skin types. The simple packaging looks very clean and natural and I find a tube quite useful for a day cream as you can easily cut it open at the end of use to get every last drop out. It is a 75ml tube so it is quite easy to pack when travelling.

      - The Moisturiser -
It is easy to squeeze a controlled amount of cream from the tube. It is white in colour and a medium consistency for a day cream. It is lightly scented with floral notes which is very pleasant and not at all over powering. The cream rubs into my skin easily and feels light but moisturising. It sinks in very quickly so I am able to apply makeup within a few minutes, this is very important to me as I am always in a hurry in the mornings. The cream leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated. It is not at all greasy or oily.

      - The Results -
I have used this cream every day for three months and have just finished the tube. I have been very pleased with the results as my skin feels soft, hydrated and healthy and my complexion is even.

      - Parabens and Allergens -
Having bought this product from a health shop I was interested to know what made it different to other skin care items. The answer is that it is free from parabens and allergens that you might find in other products. Parabens are used to preserve products and prevents bacteria and mould forming. However, there are concerns that parabens may be toxic to the skin so this is something you might want to avoid. Many products also contain fragrances that can cause allergic reactions to sensitive skin but any fragrances used in the Dead Sea Spa Magik range are 100% allergen free.

      - Price and Availability -
This moisturiser was priced at £7.99 in Holland and Barrett, although I only paid £3.99 as I had a voucher. I think £7.99 is a reasonable price to pay for a day cream especially considering its healthy credentials, the results and how long it lasted.

      - Would I Recommend? -
I would definitely recommend giving this cream a try, particularly for those with sensitive skin or those keen to avoid parabens. I found it to be a lovely, great quality moisturiser at a reasonable price and would therefore buy it again in the future.
