“ Brand: Dermalogica / Type: Anti-Ageing / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types / What it does: Rejuvenates, „
I was lucky enough to have recieved a small sample tube of this recently. The sample I recieved came in a silver tube (same as the image shown). I have to say I had never heard of this product before and to be honest, I thought the name was a bit of a mouthful. However I was eager to try it out as soon as I could.
I was very intrigued by the 'thermal technology' that the product claimed to have. After having disappointing results with other products in the past that claimed to heat up on contact to the skin, I was quite skeptical about the thermal aspect to the product. However I was pleasantly suprised when I immediatly felt the lovely warmth and heat as soon as I gently spread the products between my finger tips before applying to the face. Although the product did heat up quite a bit it was by no means uncomfortable, it was actually quite refreshing to the skin.
The directions for use do say to apply to damp skin, which I think is the key to activating the thermal warmth. Only a small amount is needed, a little really does go a long way. My very small tube has lasted me a good few weeks with 2-3 applications a week.
The consistancy is quite thick and is a shade of yellow. Within the product there are lots of small rough exfoliation particles which when applied, buff, smooth and remove dead skin, dirt and dryness. My skin felt brand new after the first application, I was left with a wonderfully silky soft face, which to be honest i couldnt stop stroking! I was so amazed with the outcome, I even had to get family and friends to feel just how smooth it had left my skin. My skin seemed to glow after use and that as well as the smoothness does last a couple of days, longer than any other exfoliant I have used.
In regards to the age defying effects of the product I am quite unsure how it diminishes/stops aging. I am 21 so I have not seen any age defying results so unfortunatley I am unable to comment on that. Other than that I could not find any other disadvantages to this product.
I would recommend to anyone with Normal/Dry skin.
I received a small tube of Dermalogica's multivitamin thermofoliant face scrub a few months ago in my Glossybox. I was interested to try this out having read a lot about the brand.
This particular product is part of the Age Smart range and states that it is 'a powerful skin polisher with unique thermal technology that activates upon contact to enhance penetration of age-fighting ingredients into skin.' I will be honest and say I am yet to work out whether the Age Smart range is designed to prevent ageing or cure it or both. Being 27, I don't have that many signs of ageing yet, aside from a few tiny lines if you get up close, but I'm happy to use anything that promises to keep me looking young.
I only have a small sample tube, which is very plain looking - white in colour with grey writing - which has an almost clinical look to it. Some of the pictures of the full sized product show it as being the same white tube I have and some show it as a silver tube, so it seems the packaging varies slightly.
To use this scrub, you need to apply it to damp skin in circular motions. The scrub is a pale orange colour and comes out of the tube in a 'worm'. It's quite thick and I find that only a small amount is needed per use.
Given the talk of 'thermal technology' I had expected that the product would heat up on contact with the skin, however I have not found this to be the case for me. The scrub contains lots of tiny little granules which scrub away at the skin and I actually find that when massaging it in, it feels extremely gritty and to some degree uncomfortable. I usually prefer scrubs that are packed with grains as I like to feel they are working, but this one is a bit like overload to me. It says on the tube to massage in for one-two minutes although I'd say I normally only manage 30-45 seconds before it gets so uncomfortable that I wash it off.
The scrub is lightly perfumed, although I cannot pick out exactly what it smells like, it's pleasant enough and despite applying to my face does not make my eyes water as scented skincare products often do.
I have to say in terms of results this is probably one of the best face scrubs I've ever used. My skin feels absolutely amazing after I use this product - it is extremely soft to the touch and almost has a silky feel about it. It buffs away any dry patches (which I particularly seem to get around my nose and forehead) and my make-up seems to glide on much more easily after use.
In terms of appearance to my skin, I do think it looks brighter after I have used this product. I have not noticed any anti-ageing effects although I always think this is a very difficult thing to determine from a product anyway.
The price of this product varies depending on where you shop. With this being a salon brand the big department stores tend not to stock it. Having looked online the cheapest I can find it at the moment is for £28.65 from www.pure-beauty.co.uk. Some places are charging closer to £40 which is extortionate. One thing I will note, is that the full 75ml size should last quite a while, given that I've had around six weeks use from a 15ml tube and that is using it twice a week (and there's still a bit left!).
Overall, I would recommend this as it's an amazing product and I have been thrilled with the results. I do think it is rather on the expensive side, but I would buy it again as a treat or if I have a special occasion coming up.
I'm a huge fan of scrubs of any kind, but I especially like using a good facial scrub. So I was really pleased when I received a little tube of this Thermafoliant in my Glossybox a couple of months ago. I hadn't tried Dermalogica products before, as I am admittedly the laziest girl there is as far as skincare is concerned, so quite frankly it would be a waste of money to spend a lot on it.
That said, I really like Dermalogica's take on cosmetics - that it's better to take a scientifically-backed, proactive approach to tackle whatever issues your skin may have than slather your face with makeup. Their product range is extremely extensive and there are various tools on their website which can help you decide what is right for your skin, so I'd really recommend checking it out.
It's worth pointing out this product is in the Age Smart range, recommended for mature or prematurely-aging skin. Mine is neither - I'm 26 and look a lot younger - so I probably wouldn't have selected this given the choice of their vast range, but I guess it's never too early to start protecting your skin for the future!
The scrub can be used either after cleansing on wet skin, or on dry skin for a slightly more effective/"harsher" scrub. It is a very thick paste-like consistency, although it does spread pretty easily onto the skin, so you really don't need to use a lot of product. When I get to the price, you might think that's just as well!
My skin isn't overly sensitive, but I have found some scrubs harsh in the past. This has a lot of granules, and they are quite harsh and sandy, but it's not uncomfortable at all. It heats up on your finger before you even get it onto your skin, and the heat lasts for about five seconds or so which is a little longer than I have experienced with other scrubs which cool down almost as soon as they touch the skin.
I'm not really sure what I think about thermafoliants. While it is pleasant and makes skincare slightly more fun, I can't say that I'm convinced it adds anything to the effects of the product. I realise that warming opens your pores, but as the effect only lasts a few seconds, I really don't think it would make much of a difference.
The scrub rinses off very easily and doesn't leave a slick, greasy, feel to the skin which I hate in some scrubs which are trying to rehydrate the skin with over-oily formulation after sloughing off dead skin with something too harsh. After rinsing my skin feels completely clean and very peachy and fresh.
The scent is very mild and natural, not especially pleasant but it's not that noticeable so it's not a big deal. I would much rather have no fragrance than too much which could irritate my skin.
I have been using this a couple of times a week in the shower for about a month, which is pretty consistent for me skincare wise, and I think that's because I really do love the way it makes my skin feel! My skin tends to get very dry and flaky especially in the winter months and this does help to make it feel much smoother and healthier. I can't really comment on the anti-aging effects, however I do believe that any time you remove old dead skin to reveal fresh new skin underneath you will look more radiant and young!
Now for the downside. Dermalogica's high tech custom skincare does not come cheap, and this has an RRP of a whopping £40.50 for 75ml which really isn't a huge amount, although it will go far. It is pretty easy to find it online for around £25, however for me that is still way too much to shell out for something which isn't exactly an essential. Offline you can find Dermalogica in a lot of salons and spas and it really does feel more of a luxury product with the pricetag I'd expect.
If I'm loaded when I'm old enough to be the target demographic for this, I'll definitely purchase, otherwise it's a fun treat until my sample is used up!
This product in particular has had quite a bit of press coverage both on TV and in the form of print promotion not by Dermalogica themselves but other people singing their praises.
This is the Dermalogica Age Smart Multivitamin Thermafoliant.
This is part of the Age Smart range of beauty products that is aimed at a more mature consumer. Although I'm of the frame of mind that if it's for skin that is already showing signs of age it will be even more effective on skin that isn't.
I have already reviewed products from this range and found them to be very affective for all skin types, as Dermalogica products contain nothing that will damage your skin no matter what your age.
This however wouldn't be suitable for people with very sensitive skin as the exfoliating action isn't as gentle as some others that Dermalogica do. Don't get me wrong it's still all natural but exfoliating isn't recommended for sensitive skin no mater what the product. This unlike the other exfoliator I reviewed is more like a traditional exfoliant in it's composition, by this I mean that this is a gel base with fine sand like particles to polish away the old, dull, dead skin cells. The gel is a pale orange colour and has a mild delicate fruit like scent.
As the name implies this is an exfoliant but also has age defying properties and finally a thermal component to it's gel. These will all work in conjunction with each other to help increase each others properties and effectiveness.
Simply use this product as you would any exfoliator. Cleanse your skin with a good quality cleanser there is one in this Age Smart range. Then dampen your face with warm water, squeeze out a medium amount of this product onto your fingertips and apply a dab to the center of your forehead, one to your chin and one dab to each cheek. This way the product is ready to be used in each sector of the face and won't need to be dragged from one spot to the next. Plus you are using clean product in each area. Do make sure as always to keep clear of the delicate eye area.
Massage into the skin using gentle pressure in small circular movements. I always recommend leaving the product to sit on the skin for a moment to let the wonderful ingredients penetrate and stimulate the skin.
Almost instantly once you begin to move this gel around you will feel a warming sensation. It's a little like the feeling of using the mussel heating cream "Deep Heat" but on your face, very strange. The fine particles polish the skin, the thermal properties stimulate the skin and both together create the optimum setting for your skin to absorb the beneficial ingredients. I love this idea as the more your skin absorbes the better the results. The feeling of this scrub is very different to anything I used before or since. My friend that gets me a good discount actually doesn't like the feeling and actually finds it uncomfortable to use. I actually like the feeling but maybe it's not for every one, so if your buying another Dermalogica product ask for a tester of this so you can see for yourself before you buy.
This washes off very easily and doesn't leave any residue or particles behind all the product, excess oils, dead skin and dirt are washed away simply by using fresh, clean, warm water. After that continue with your normal routine.
Dew to it's three part treatment design (exfoliating, thermal stimulation, anti ageing motorisation) this is a very effective product. The results are a highly polished, extra soft, bright youthful complexion.
Again the only warning I have for you is that the sensation may not be suitable for everyone.

I was persuaded to buy this product after I read a review about it and heard that it was good at removing whitehead spots from the skin. ~(Whitehead spots are tiny white lumps on the surface of the skin which are basically hair follicles clogged with sebum, then with a layer of skin on the top so they don't go the black colour you see in blackheads exposed to the air.) I have a fair few of these on the apple of my cheeks, and while not overly noticeable, I would love to shift them so I was willing to give it a go.
My skin has never been perfect but probably down to me never having that great a skin care routine. I'd occasionally try one and take lots of vitamins to help make it nice for a special occasion like my wedding, but in the grand scheme of things, I didn't prioritise it when I am tired and just want to get into bed seems though I never wear much make up.
Last summer, I put suncream on before having a long hot and sweaty day in the sun with the kids on holiday. My skin has been pretty awful for the best part of a year. I have tried a few different cleansers and face scrubs. Some have helped a bit, but I just could not get to the root of the problem and I was just getting to the stage when I was thinking I might need a course of antibiotics. In desperation really I decided to give this a try. I had some gift vouchers for amazon, so the nearly £40 price tag for 75ml still made me wince but I clicked buy and waited for it to drop through the letterbox.
The first day it arrived, I made sure I used it. My previous experience of thermal treatments has been a similar product from clinique, which I found made my face feel like it was about to set on fire. I was expecting this to be quite similar, but it was a totally original and shocking experience for me, and not in a bad way.
While this is not a product marketed at problem skin, I have now got nicer skin than I have had in a long time. Existing spots have calmed down. New spots are so tiny they are almost non-existent. My skin is quite red in places from old spots, but even this seems a bit calmer and less visible. I'm not one for trying to hide these marks with makeup, so this is a big relief to me that healing is happening.
This is actually marketed as an 'agesmart' product. It works via chemical and physical resurfacing of your skin. This squeezes out of the tube as a grainy yellowish gel. Before I use this, I follow the instructions and make sure that I cleanse my skin first. I use a pretty cheap Tesco cleanser. It is a liquid one which I use on a cotton wool pad. You can then use this product on damp or dry skin. Mine is closer to dry I would say, as I want the full effect of the product, and I don't find the sensation too bad, but it is a pretty intense treatment. Some people may find it uncomfortable and might prefer to use it on damper skin instead.
I get about an inch, and put some on each cheek, some on my forehead and some on my chin area. I spend a couple of minutes then rubbing this in well. The first time I was thinking to myself it was like being sandblasted. I was convinced that my skin would be left bright red and sore afterwards. Even worse as I washed it off, my skin felt 'squeaky clean' and not in a good way. Like any oil in it had been stripped away completely. I applied my usual light moisturiser all over my face, and went to bed expecting to wake up to a complete break out. My face at this point was a little pink round my cheeks where I had rubbed for longer. I wouldn't have gone out looking like this, but it did tone down fairly quickly. It didn't feel sore at any point.
When I woke up in the morning, my face felt absolutely amazing, and looked really radiant. I felt like it was a lot cleaner than normal, and I kept wanting to touch it and feel how smooth it was. This effect lasted a good few days where my skin looked like this and felt so smooth. I was also noticing less spots appearing and fewer visible blackheads. I also had lost a couple of these whitehead spots, but I can't say it removed them completely. It just loosened the skin covering it so then with a bit of poking they popped out.
I have been using it a couple of times a week, and while I still do not have a permanent solution to my problems, it is so much better. I really look forward to using it, but I try to leave it for a little while between uses as I want to make the tube last as long as I can. It is a luxury I would love to be able to afford on a more regular basis, and this is the only thing that puts me off this treatment. The price.
Using it as I am, I reckon one tube may last me about 4 months, so I think I will keep using it, but try and use a cheaper brand of exfoliating scrub between times. These will obviously not have the chemical action provided here with salicylic acid, retinol, prickly pear extract, white tea and licorice.
As an age smart product, I can't really comment on how well it might deal with wrinkes that are starting to appear as I am lucky at 32 to have quite firm skin with good elasticity and have not noticed these yet. I had noticed that my skin was getting dull though, which you put down to being tired or having too much booze or not enough vitamins recently. I now realise that without noticing, my skin has stopped replacing itself quite as quickly as it did in my 20s and it no longer excuses me for mistreating it. This aspect of it is really good for me, and I really notice a difference.
It's not been obvious enough to anyone else that they have commented on it, but I feel better and more confident, so it has got to be given a lot of credit. At 32, I finally think I know how to treat my skin well, which will hopefully help my skin age better.
I am very interested in skin care products and I have tried many products from leading skin care brands over the last 15 years. When a new 'wonder' product becomes available then I just have to try it.
Dermalogica products have been getting lots of good press lately and for that reason I have been trying some of them to see if they suit my skin.
The latest Dermalogica product I have been using is Dermalogica Age Smart Multivitamin Thermafoliant. I received 5 sample sachets of this product with my last order of a full size Dermalogica product. If you buy the full size tube of this product it costs around £33 for 75mls. Not cheap by anyone's standards!
Dermalogica Multivitamin Thermafoliant is part of the Dermalogica Age Smart range. This range has been developed for people who have concerns about skin ageing and wrinkles. There are other products in the Age Smart range which include moisturiser, eye cream, cleanser and toner etc.
Dermalogica Multivitamin Thermafoliant has been developed to be a powerful thermal skin polisher that combines physical and chemical exfoliants to refine skin texture and enhance penetration of age-fighting actives into skin while advanced technology ingredients condition and treat the skin.
The product has been specifically designed to:
- Gently polishe off dulling skin cells to reveal smoother, fresher skin immediately.
- Thermal technology activates upon contact with water to drive beneficial ingredients further into skin.
- Provide antioxidant protection while suppressing the formation of AGEs.
- Make Skin look and feel dramatically improved and smoother.
This product should be used after cleansing. To use, apply to damp skin in circular motions for 1 to 2 minutes, avoiding the eye area. A more intense result can be achieved by using directly on dry skin. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Use two to three times per week.
I was keen to try this skin polisher as I don't really use a skin polisher in my usual skincare routine. I do however use an exfoliating scrub once a week. I have normal/combination skin with an oily t-zone. This product clearly states it is suitable for all skin types including mature and prematurely ageing skin.
I decide that to get really good results I am going to use this product straight onto my skin, I am not going to wet my skin first. I disperse about a 10p piece blob of the product and rub it into my face. The product is a very pale orange colour and it feels like a gel mixed with sand. As soon as the product reaches my face my skin feel warm, I think this is down to the thermfoliant. As the instructions state I begin to massage the product into my face in circular movements. This proves to be too painful, my skin is already sore and I have only massaged a small amount over my skin. I decide that I need to wet my face with hand hot water and try again.
This time it does not feel quite so painful on my skin but it still feel a bit uncomfortable. I continue for a few more seconds and then wash the product off my face. I am being honest in saying that it's a relief to get it off.
I observe my skin and look for results. My skin looks quite red and sore especially on my cheeks. Before I used this skin polisher I had exactly 3 Milia spots on my face around my left cheek.
Milia are deep seeded white bumps that form when skin cells and sebaceous matter become trapped rather than exfoliate naturally. Milia can occur anywhere on the skin and are prone around eye area and cheeks.
After using this skin polisher on only one occassion 2 of my Milia spots have gone completely and one has decreased in size. I am really happy about this because in the past I have had milia removed at a Beauty Salon. The technique to remove it involves a lance. Not an experience I would recommend!
This skin polisher was a bit too harsh for my skin, especially when I tried to use it without water. When it is on your skin your skin feels really warm and you can feel the thermafoliant working. When I used the product with water it was still incomfortable. I really feel that in the future I would just use this skin polisher only on areas of my skin with milia, I feel it is too harsh to use anywhere else.
The product washed off well and did not leave any residue. When I applied eye cream after using this product my skin was stinging, and whilst using this product I tried to avoid the eye area as much as possible. When I applied moisturiser my skin felt okay and did not sting. My skin was quite dry and I needed to use double the amount of moisturiser I usually use.
As I said before I will only be using this product once in a while to help remove milia. I can't recommend this product as I would hate anyone to spend over £30 on it and then to experience the same effects as I did.
If you have milia problems then my advice is try and get a couple of samples of this product and use it once in a while to help remove your milia. This product in my opinion is not very effective at anything else.
Dermalogica is a beauty brand which prides itself on creating pure products that are full of natural ingredients. Their creations are free from artificial fragrances and colours. The brand is popular across the world and relies on word of mouth to sell its products rather than advertising and over the top packaging.
As part of its Age Smart collection, Dermalogica created Multivitamin Thermafoliant which is designed to be used on mature skin or skin that is aging prematurely. Although I'd like to think my skin isn't aging prematurely just yet, I am starting to see a few fine lines around my eyes and a couple of smile lines, which I guess are better than developing frown lines! I decided it was better to act now rather than wait until my skin started to age and so I chose this product.
This product contains physical and chemical exfoliants in order to polish the skin. Exfoliation is important because it removes the dead skin cells. When dead skin cells are left on the face, it can leave it looking dull and clog the pores. When the pores begin clogged, they become enlarged and it can also result in spots and blackheads. So exfoliating is very important.
The product is designed to feed the skin with important vitamins and anti oxidants that will prevent it from aging before its time. It promises to condition the skin and prevents collagen from degrading meaning that skin while become more youthful and smoother. The product will also encourage the development of new skin cells.
Apart from all these promises, it is one step ahead of other products that serve the same purpose because of its warming action which you will feel as soon as it comes into contact with the water on your skin. The formula works using a unique thermal technology, which becomes activated when the product touches your damp skin. The purpose of the warming action is to get the ingredients absorbed into the skin so that they can work their magic.
How does it work?
The formula contains Magnesium Oxide, Silica and Sodium Bicarbonate which gently exfoliates the skin. Lactic Acid and Prickly Pear Extract optimise these exfoliants and ensure that they are working at their best level. Vitamins A, C and E nourish the skin and help to remove aging toxins that may be lurking on the face, therefore preventing premature aging of the skin. White Tea and Licorice are present to stop the break down of collagen meaning that your skin won't lose its elasticity and a mineral powder in the product will minimise fine lines on the face.
How do you use the product?
This product is to be used after cleansing. It needs to be applied to damp skin. If you apply it to dry skin, it won't work properly as it is the water that activates the thermal action which encourages the vitamins to be absorbed into the skin. After squeezing some product into your hands, you need to massage it into the skin using a circular motion for a few minutes. Take care not to go too close to the delicate skin around the eye area.
For the exfoliating action to be performed more intensively, it can be used on dry skin, but this will mean that the nutrients won't be absorbed fully into the skin. Once you have finished massaging in the product, you need to rinse it off thoroughly with warm water. The product should not be used more than two times a week as it will become too harsh for the skin. Every other day use should be more than enough.
This product is a nice treatment for the skin and leaves my face feeling smooth and silky. As I haven't really got any obvious signs of aging yet, I can't comment on whether it makes the skin look younger, but hopefully it's preventing my skin from aging in the first place. My skin looks healthier and has a dewy glow to it. The flaky skin that I get on my forehead is reduced which means my make up looks better.
The warming action feels pleasant and combined with the slightly herbal aroma, it is a relaxing product to use. You can feel the exfoliant in the product, but it doesn't feel rough or hurt sensitive skin like mine. My skin doesn't feel tight or dry after use, but as it doesn't hydrate the skin, a moisturiser being applied afterwards feels nice and is necessary.
The product costs £30 for 75ml. As with all of Dermalogica's packaging, it is plain white. It can be bought from many online websites. If you find that you like this product, you may be interested to know that also available in the Age Smart collection is a solution for every skin complaint you could possibly imagine.
I was lucky enough to be given a free sample of the Dermalogica Age Smart Multivitamin Thermafoliant from my local beauty salon. The price for the full size tube (75ml) is around £30.
This product is designed for mature or prematurely aging skin. It uses chemical and physical exfoliants to refine the texture of your skin.
In my opinion this product has a good effect on the texture of the skin. After using it my skin always feels very smooth. The scent is very pleasant and it is really nice to use. You don't need to use much product so it lasts quite a while. When you start massaging it into your skin it feels all warm. The exfoliant is very gentle and didn't cause any discomfort to my skin, which can be the case with other products. Despite really liking this product, my finances don't stretch to buying the full size version. Which is a shame because it really is good. It makes your skin feel very nice and the warming sensation is really pleasant.
If you can afford the £30 price tag, this product is well worth the money.
What a wonderful product!!
When the thermafoliant hits your skin there is a chemical reaction so that you feel very warm. It has a very comfortable smell of herbs, and your skin feels very soft after using it. When I use this and apply moisturizer afterwards it feels as if I have had a facial at the spa!
Dermalogica is rather expensive, but I think the price on this product is good and definitively worth the price. I've had mine for at least a couple of months, and I use it at least three times per week. It has grains in it for a mechanical peeling, but it also offers ingredients to give you a chemical peeling.
If you want a similar product I've also used one from Estee Lauder (Idealist Micro Deep Thermal Refinishing). However, it costs about two or three times more! The thermafoliant from Dermalogica is just as good in my opinion. Enjoy!
