Dermalogica is one of the world's best selling beauty brands. They don't feel the need to advertise or use fancy packaging because they let their products do the talking instead. They use natural ingredients and don't test their products on animals.
My skin is oily and spot prone and I am always trying different products to try and combat this. The Dermalogica Barrier Repair is a special water free moisturiser which has been created for sensitive and spot prone skin. It is free from artificial colours and fragrances to make it even more gentle on the skin.
Its purpose is to hydrate the skin while repairing the damage that may have been caused by external factors such as pollution and harsh weather. It is also forms a barrier on the skin to prevent further damage from being caused.
How does it work?
The product contains Primrose Oil which hydrates your skin and helps to repair the very top layer. It has anti aging qualities and rejuvenates the skin, healing to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The oil improves our skins elasticity, making it appear firmer and it promotes the production of healthy new skin cells. It is gentle on the skin and reduces inflammation, blemishes while evening out the skin tone.
The Emollient Sillicones which are present make the skin feel softer and helps to strengthen the skins natural barrier, preventing any future damage to it.
It is also contains Shea Butter which is one of natures greatest moisturisers and is very nourishing on the skin. Vitamin C is also included which is essential for the healthy development of collagen. It is also an antioxidant which fights against the free radicals in the skin, which otherwise would have caused premature aging.
The Bisabolol which is present helps to prevent irritations and inflammation of the skin. The substance comes from the Chamomile plant and it is soothing and gentle on the skin.
How do you use the product?
You use this product in the place of your normal moisturiser. It is to be applied to clean, dry skin and gently stroked into the skin on your neck and face. It is suitable for regular use.
The product does not come cheap and costs around £26 for a very small amount. It is available from many online websites so if you shop around, then you may find it for cheaper. It comes in a white tube with a screw top lid and you squeeze the packaging gently to release the liquid. It is a very silky formula that glides easily on the skin.
When I first saw the list of ingredients, I was frightened for the safety of my spot prone skin. Shea butter and oils are not substance that I would normally put anywhere near my face. But after reading positive reviews, I took a leap of faith and it certainly paid off.
There are so many positives that come with this product. It feels very soothing on my skin. It is not greasy or oily and is easily absorbed. It gives the skin a matt appearance that is fairly long lasting and as its fragrance free, then this is suitable for use on both men and women.
This is perfect on my combination skin. It doesn't cause blemishes or irritate my skin and helps to even out my skin tone. It helps keep my make up looking better for longer too and it gives instant results.
The only negative that I would give this product is that it is not highly moisturising so if you have very dry skin then this will not be enough on its own but Dermalogica also have a serum for sensitive skin that may better suit you if this is the case.
When using this product, I sometimes needed to apply a heavier moisturiser to the area of my skin that get very dry. Nevertheless, if you have sensitive, combination and spot prone skin, you won't go far wrong with this.
I have a large year-old scar on my jawline from a deep graze and although it's healed pretty well the skin has become very sensitive not only to environmental factors like wind and temperature changes, but also to most skincare products and even my usual sensitive skin moisturiser was irritating it. My sister recommended I try this Dermalogica Barrier Repair on the area and gave me a tube to try out. Lucky I have such a generous sister because I could not afford to buy this myself, it has an RRp of £32 for a 30ml tube!
The tube is typical of Dermalogica's clinical image, a simple clear tube with grey writing. It looks simple but high quality. It has a screw off lid and a nozzle type applicator which makes it easy to get out just the right amount and to apply it straight from the tube if you wanted to.
It's like a gel texture which feels really smooth and silky and glides onto skin so smoothly and easily. It doesn't sink into skin like a normal moisturiser but forms a barrier to protect the skin, but it feels weightless and you can't really tell it's there unless you stroke your skin and you can feel the smooth silky texture.
This is one of those products that I thought came in a ridiculously small tube (particularly for the price!) and would run out really quickly but actually you only need a really tiny amount so it lasts really well. I started off just using it on my scar but I liked it so much that I started using it on other areas too and I still only use the tiniest amount at a time.
According to Dermalogica's write-up this is supposed to soothe and help repair damage from environmental aggression, shielding skin from pollution, temperature, stress and hormonal factors, as well as strengthening the skin's natural lipid barrier to protect it from future assault.
Well I have to agree that it soothes the skin really well and after just a few days of using it my skin was feeling a lot less sensitised and looking less red and angry. When it's on I can definitely tell that it's protecting my skin from the temperature and the weather which used to leave my skin feeling sore but no longer do. I'm not sure about stress and hormonal factors as these are not an issue for me in the first place, but my skin definitely feels stronger, healthier, less sensitive as well as a whole lot softer and smoother, so on the whole I can say it definitely lives up to it's claims.
I have been using this product for about 9 months now and the difference in my skin is fantastic! I got my first lot in the sensitised skin kit that they sell at salons so I only had a 10ml tube but it lasted me 5 months! Its a gel based moisturiser and you only use a pea sized blob for my whole face. Other reviewers have said that it feels too velvety but I was advised by the salon to use it with Dermalogica Soothing Protection Spray. You spray that on first then use the Barrier Repair and it goes on a lot easier and goes a lot further! I have very sensitive skin and my skin is a lot less red and itchy since using it! I use it once a day and my skin feels smoother and plumper. Using it without foundation gives your face a nice dewy look and your skin doesn't feel heavy at all.
You can get Dermalogica from salons or online and although it is pricey it is definitely worth the money.
Part of Dermologica's sensitive skin range, this moisturiser is a god-send!! It is silicon based so it does smell ever so slightly plastic. Use this with the rest of the sensitive range products (i.e. ultra calming cleanser, gentle cream exfoliant) and you will see the difference in your skin within a day! I was very sceptical to start with as the feel of this moisturiser is very strange - a bit too velvety to the touch and it does feel like it takes quite a while to "blend" the moisturiser into the skin. Very pricey but I found a small 10ml tube has lasted me a good 3 months with careful "spot" application (i.e. rather than putting a large blob on my palm and spreading it across my face). I put this on during the night and the next day the skin on my face was noticeably smoother and more plump. I would highly recommend this product!
Ever since i have used the Dermalogica barrier repair, i have noticed that my skin has improved quite alot. There are many cosmetic products on the market my skin are ellergic to, but since using this product, i felt that it was right for my skin type. I only need to use a small amount and it also moisturised my skin well and improved my skin tone too . when i apply the waterless moisturiser onto my skin, it literally melts on to my skin creating a barrier to protect my skin, i also felt that this moisturiser is waterproof because it sticks onto my skin without the greasiness and when i apply water on to it, i can see the water sliding off my face!. It melts into sensitized skin and helps to repair damage caused by environmental aggressions from polllution, temperature extremes, irritating cosmetic products, harsh detergents, poor diet. It also contains evening primrose and emollient silicones providing a velvety feel, shea butter and vitamin C, i mean what more can you ask from a moisturiser? The moisturiser comes in a clear tube,37ml for around £23.60, and can be purchased from reputable salons. try it, its well worth the money!
