As mentioned in other Dermalogica reviews here on DOOYOO, I took advantage of the online face mapping that will ask you a number of questions and then suggest the right product.
In my personal opinion, this worked for me.
They suggested four products based on my answers and I put all my confidence in those products and purchase them first as samples [[EBAY] and then went on to buy the full sized products.
Due to the issues my skin [use] to have it is quite sensitive, but this GENTLE EXFOLIANT is perfect and doesn't react in any way at all.! [phew]
There are two ingredients in this I had never tried before, thinking that SALICYLIC acid was the only thing that could help my skin. However :
These two, together will remove dead cells that clog up your skin cause bacteria and thus blemishes and smoothes your skin.
Combining the four products together, I believe has made the most difference but this exfoliator has been the best.
My skin doesn't sting or go red afterwards, my complexion is a lot smoother. Finally, I've got the skin I want and I don't have to worry about unexpected surprises that arrive because my skin is prepped by this combination. The skin tone is fresher and more lifted and healthier.
I would recommend purchasing the samples first and try but I doubt this brand will.
Prices vary online but this normally retails between £25-30.
I would highly recommend this product x
My skin is oily but prone to dry skin on my forehead and nose. This can lead to me having flaky skin in that area which looks awful when I apply make up and so I need to exfoliate my skin. My skin has the tendency to be sensitive so I though I would dry a more gentle product. I have always liked the Dermalogica products and so I purchased the Lush Gentle Cream Exfoliant.
What does the product do?
The product promises to improve the texture of the skin using a chemical exfoliant instead of an abrasive one. The product comes in the form of a mask and removes those dull and dead skin cells cells to reveal the healthy and radiant ones underneath. It also promotes cell renewal making your skin feel smooth and to look at good as new. It is free from artificial fragrances and colouring which makes this a good one for those with sensitive skin.
How does it work?
The product contains both Lactic Acid and Hydrolic Acid which slough off the dead skin cells. It also contains Apricot Oil to nourish the skin, leaving it in a better condition and orange and lemon extract to tone and brighten the skin. Lavender oil is included to soothe the skin.
How do you use the product?
The product can be used around once ot twice a week. If you over use it, it can strip your skin of its natural oils. You need to apply the product to skin that has been cleansed so that the formula can work its way deep down into the skin. You need to smooth a thin layer of the product over the face, avoiding the lip, nose and eye area. You then leave it to get to work for ten to fifteen minutes. Once the time is up, the formula needs to be rinsed off thoroughly and then your skin can be patted dry.
Packaging and Price
The product comes in the standard white and grey packaging that you see with all of Dermalogica's products. The bottle is white and plastic and it has a grey flip top lid on which is can stand. It has no decoration on the bottle at all and it is plain other than the grey writing which give you some more information about the product. It isn't cheap and it will cost you around £25 for 75ml. It can be bought from your local Dermalogica store or from their online website.
Application and Performance
The product doesn't have much of a skin because none has been artificially added. It has a slight chemical scent but it isn't strong and it won't be enough to put anyone off using the product. The mask is pure white in colour and it is quite thick and creamy. It has the consistency of a thin paste and so you don't need to use much of the product to get a good covering on the face. The mask slides easily onto the skin without any pulling or dragging and it is a quick and easy job. As the mask is white in colour, your face will be coated very noticeably so it's not one you'll want to answer the door wearing. As the formula is thick, you can get on with jobs around the house as you wait for the time to be up as it won't drip and stays in place.
It feels completely comfortable on the skin and it hasn't irritated my face or caused me any discomfort. It doesn't dry out and you can actually forget your wearing it. You can't feel it doing anything at all and it doesn't tingle. The first time that I used the product, this made me question whether it was even working or not. The mask is easy to remove once the time is up and I tend to use a warm damp flannel and then rinse off the excess by splashing my face with warm water. Keep your eyes tightly shut as this stage as it stings if it goes in the eyes. Once my skin was dry, it did immediately feel much smoother. It wasn't tight or dry and some of the flaky skin was gone which made me know it was doing a good job. My complexion looks brighter and healthier to the point where one or two of my friends commented on it. It hasn't caused me to develop any blemishes and I think my skin has been a bit clearer since I started to use this.
All in all, this is a brilliant but gentle exfoliator which removed my dead and dull skin cells and left my skin looking radiant and bright. It left my skin feeling smoother and it is quick and easy to use. The only shame is the price but then I suppose you get what you pay for. I would definitely recommend this product.
Here is part three of my Dermalogica Skin Care Kit review of the Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant. The size I got in my kit was a tiny 10ml sample but was more than enough for 4 applications as a little does go along way. I must have tried every facial scrub out there to help eliminate my acne scaring and to try and make my skin feel smoother. I always tend to find any exfoliaters that have the word "gentle" in them just don't have enough scrub in them to make any significant difference but this is where this product comes in.
A full sized tube of this exfoliater is 75ml and is around the £25 mark but as with everything it really is best to shop around before you commit to buying from one place to make sure that you are getting the best deal! It does contain both lactic acid and salicylic acid which in most products I try to avoid as I don't feel that they work for my skin type, although if you have oily skin I think that they could quite possibly be a good thing.
As with all Dermalogica products it comes in very simple and clinical looking packaging. The exfoliant has the same scent as all the other Dermalogica products that I have tried out, very clean and fresh scent which isn't too overpowering and doesn't leave you scrunching up your nose at the smell and then desperately wanting to wash it off your face after 30 seconds! Like I said at the beginning over a very small amount of cream needs to be used over the skin just enough to cover it like a film over the skin. As it is a gentle and non abrasive exfoliant it can be used up to twice a week for more problematic skin. I tend to only use it occasionally now when I feel my skin needs a bit of an extra boost. The cream itself is quite a runny white coloured liquid but with a thicker texture of almost clay. Once on the skin you can feel it tightening and I like products that I can feel working, I'm not sure if that's a brain thing that if I can feel something happening it must be working! I'm quite glad I hadn't read other reviews before using as lots of people seem to have found it really stings their skin and even though my skin is very sensitive I have never had any problems with stinging when using this. I was a little confused on the first application as being an exfoliant I thought it might have the "scrubby" bits in and I was almost certain none had come out of the tube but after reading up this is what its supposed to be. I find this better for my skin as sometimes I get a little carried away and end up scrubbing far too much and actually damaging my skin even more.
When on the skin it sinks in quite quickly and after leaving for 10-15 minutes you quite simply rinse off. I think due to its clay like texture it did take a little more than a quick splash with water to rinse off but with a warm flannel and a sink of water it was off in no time. I would definitely advise avoiding the eye area as it really does feel like they are burning if you get it anywhere close so just make sure your careful and not clumsy like me with the application.
After rinsing off my skin didn't look red and irritated like sometimes I get after using a new product or exfoliator, and my skin actually felt smooth and looked brighter than usual. The next day which is usually my ultimate test I woke up with no breakouts and the few spots I already had, had shrunk considerably
in size and had calmed down a lot. It also contains products to help moisturize your skin and my skin felt and looked considerably smoother and softer after using. My makeup also applied really nicely the next day after using this.
Out of my whole kit of Dermalogica products I think that this really has been my favourite and have since re-purchased as I feel it makes such a difference to my skin overall. I think if your fed up with wasting money on cheaper exfoliaters and not getting the results you after this could be great for you!
The Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant is a beauty miracle that gives stunning results in 10 minutes! I first bought this when I had been looking into getting a chemical peel but nerves had got the better of me, so I looked to find an alternative that obviously wouldn't be as strong but could get similar effects. Thats when I found this.
I am someone who since early teens has suffered from oily skin, a rather uneven skin tone as well as mild acne. I was despairing at the state of my skin when I seemed to spending a fortune on different products but when I found Dermalogica, everything changed! The range of daily products from Dermalogica are fantastic and this Gentle Cream Exfoliant is certainly the icing on the cake.
I bought this for £27.75 from www.lookfantastic.com which I thought was reasonable after reading what the product does. The exfoliant contains enzymes that improve skins texture and actually detaches dead skin cells from your face which then also stimulates the renewal of skin cells, leaving you with an almost flawless finish! When you apply to the cream to your face, it is almost as if you can see and feel it working as well!
The Gentle Cream Exfoliant comes in a 75ml tube and when you squeeze some into your hands, you get that oh so familar clean smell that all Dermalogica products possess. It is hard to tell how much you need to use so I just use a small amount to see how far it could spread and built on that focusing on my cheeks, chin and t-zone. Almost instantly, you can feel a tightening effect and although some have reported a mild stinging, I luckily never got this at all, even with my ultra sensitive skin that goes red if you even touch it! As time goes by you can see the product already start to disappear from your face, which adds to the feeling that the product is working before your very own eyes and makes the price of the product so worth it!
When I washed the product off, it did take quite a bit of rinsing to get it all off and I then splashed my face with cold water. I then would recommend using Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner and the moisturiser of your choice so your skin recovers from the tightening feeling. Then in any light, you can see the difference in the quality of your skin which instantly will look more radiant, youthful and rejuvinated. I really believe it is a miracle product!
Similar effects can be gained by keeping to a routine with general exfoliators which is why I said the Gentle Cream Exfoliant is the icing on the cake. Now and then our skin needs that extra boost beyond our day to day skin care routine and I couldn't think of a better product to achieve this result. It is recommended you use it once or twice a week however, I use it once a fortnight and find the results do last that amount of time as long as I keep up with my day to day skin routine too. This means the product lasts even longer.
For me, there really are no negatives to report, although it can't go unnoticed that some people do suffer from some stinging when applying the product, although as I said above, I didn't get this and I have incredibly sensitive skin, so it must just differ for different people and this shouldn't put people off buying it! Another thing is to try and avoid applying it close to your lips as I made this mistake and found my lips became very dry but really, this product only needs to be applied to the areas I mentioned above.
Overall, this product gave my skin that extra boost it was craving on top of my skin-care routine and seeing your skin become more radiant, youthful, smooth and healthy looking in only ten minutes is so worth the price!
I don't want to imagine what my skin would look like if I wasn't using this. I've got combination skin, oily t-zone with often dry cheeks, prone to breakouts and blackheads and generally annoyingly sensitive to everything (can't use dpt store moisturizers, for instance, due to the cheap mineral oils that block my pores, but only 100% natural organic ones). This is one of the few products I can put on my skin without problems.
The main active ingredients in the product are alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs): lactic acid and salicylic acid, to be exact. Lactic acid is a very gently exfoliating acid, and salicylic acid is especially good for skin prone to breakouts as it's exfoliating effect is aimed more at the surface of the skin, compared to the more widely used glycolic acid.
As I can't use the old, crude (for my skin anyway) abrasive exfoliants that contain hard grains that physically exfoliate through scratching and scraping the surface of the skin, a "non-violent" chemical exfoliant like this one is perfect for me.
The exfoliant is packaged in a sober-looking white tube with grey text on it. The product itself is an off-white, smooth, milky, clayish paste. Like runny clay, but white. It's very easy to apply, and the beauty of it is that you don't need to cake your face in a thick layer. You can apply a very thin film of it on your skin, and the end result seems to be the same. I always pour a bit on the back of my hand, and apply it with one or two fingers over my face, or just on the bits that need it.
Once applied, you need to let it dry and work for 10-15 minutes, and then rinse off. During the 10 minutes the product will dry on your face a bit like a normal clay mask would. It may sting a little if you haven't used AHA products before, although it is a really gentle one. If you feel a distinct stinging, I would recommend starting out with leaving it on just for a couple of minutes in the beginning. (And please don't use it near your eyes, as usual.)
The product leaves my skin looking instantly a lot fresher, brighter and smoother, by having removed dead cells from the surface of the skin. It seems to minimize the appearance of my pores as well, and prevent breakouts, as well as get rid of the ones already there quicker than usual.
So basically, it does what any good AHA product would do, but seems to be a lot gentler than many others.
According to the instructions on the leaflet, the product should be used just 1-2 times per week. Because I love it, I use it every day before cleansing my skin in the evening, almost like a pre-cleanser. I don't always keep it on for the whole 10-15 mins, more like 2-3 mins and this seems to be enough.
Can't really think of many negative things to say about it. The smell is a bit clayish, but not very strong.
The price in my nearest salon is £28, but seems to be currently approx. £17-£20 on Ebay. The tube isn't massive, but lasts me a good 7-8 weeks.
This would be great for anyone with skin prone to blackheads/ breakouts, looking for a gentle exfoliant to be used more than once a week, or for anyone interested in starting to use AHA products and not wanting to go red as a lobster with the stronger potions.

I bought this along with the Dermologica sensitized range after it was recommended to me by my beautiician as suitable for sensitive skin. At first I was very sceptical as I never tried an exfoliant without the "microbeads" and "scrubs". But this is a cream exfoliant and chemicals in the cream break down the "dirt" on the face and cleans the pores.
It is quite expensive - my 30ml tube cost me about £30 from the salon but I suspect that's just the hiked up price of the salon.
It is velvety and smooths onto the skin easily. Although, I found you have to put on quite a bit to cover the surface area of the face.
I can't get over the clay smell of this exfoliant - it's not highly unpleasant but it doesn't make me want to exfoliate more than my essential 2 times a week. Worst you have to leave the exfoliant on for at least 10 minutes whilst the chemicals do their stuff and the smell does get up your nose. One thing I must mention is the slight stinging (and the more unbearable stinging if you get this stuff near your eyes). Just be careful when using this.
Overall, an ok product - I found I still had blackheads on my nose which other scrub exfoliants usually get rid off. I'm just going through the motions because I've spent so much money on it but otherwise, I wouldn't recommend this.
I have slightly oily, acne prone skin that is also prone to dry patches and no matter how much water i seem to drink doesn't improve that much. Dermaologica can help for all skin types. I tried this yesterday evening after an outbreak of spots combined with dry patches. You just smooth it on and leave it the chemicals exfoliate without manual intervention required. The result was excellent - i left it on for 15 mins and my skin texture felt divine afterwards, my redness around the spot areas was reduced and my dry patches improved, i still have the dry patches but i expect wth religous use of this as the beautician recoomended will treat this
