No prizes for guessing what the main use of this "Oil Control Lotion" is. Yes you guessed it it helps control the levels of oil production on your skin. I don't suffer from overly oily skin but like most people I do have areas on my face that are oilier than others. As with all the Dermalogica products that I review they are the result of my very generous dermatologist / beautician friend giving me lots of samples and more times than not a full size tester product. She loves to hear my opinion on the product itself and of course the results.
This like all of the Dermalogica range is understated when it comes to packaging and design. Their no frills approach is something I like but some people may find their almost medical looking products off putting. My sister for example hates the look of them and is of the frame of mind that pampering products should be pretty. I agree, but these are not for pampering, these are functional products, that just happen to feel nice when applied.
This is a very light thin lotion that is described as containing "micro sponges that help absorb oil on the surface of the skin" it is also claimed that it "helps combat shine for a flawless matte finish"
As always only the best natural ingredients are included these include for example : "zinc gluconate, yeast extract, caffeine and biotin to purify and inhibit overactive sweat glands and salicylic acid" this in particular is great at clearing congested pores and in turn minimises the risk of future breakouts.
Dermalogica have also included an unusual ingredient called enantia chlorantha bark extract, this is said to help control any over-active oil glands and reduces shine. Many of the ingredients have not only antibacterial properties but also act as a natural anti inflammatory, this is very important because as we all know breakouts are not only ugly they can be painful and more times than not they are inflamed, this ingredient helps sooth the redness.
I found that the lotion got absorbed very quickly into my freshly cleansed skin, this of course is a result of it being so light. When it comes to the flagrance of the lotion it is very similar to nearly all Dermalogica products, it smells light and fresh and not at all offensive, quite pleasant in fact.
When it comes to results I did notice a difference in the amount of oil resadue around the edges of my nose when I did a blot test before using the product and after using it for two weeks. My friend gave me some blotting papers to help me give her accurately documented results, but you of course can use a tissue, just gently dab your problem areas the day before you are going to start the new beauty regime and then try it one to two weeks later and hopefully you will notice a reduction in the amount of oil on the paper.
My friend suffered with problematic skin as a young teenager and it's that reason alone that made her want to become a dermatologist. She has seen and heard great things about this product from people with overly oily skin and embarrassingly heavy acne as a result. This isn't a miracle cure, but it's one step in the right direction, by minimising and hopefully controlling the excess oil production, this simple product by Dermalogica can help in treating the sometimes debilitating embarrassment of oily / shiny skin and acne.
