I have previously reviewed an under eye cream by Dermalogica. So why review another?
Well because they do two completely different things and so give two completely different results. The last one had an SPF to prevent premature ageing of the skin, while this one actually removes the unwanted signs of ageing in this area.
Packaging wise this features my favorite style of packaging that Dermalogica do. It's the silver metallic style tubing with it's recognisable headline print in heavy black. This tube is the 15ml size.
This is part of Dermalogica's Age Smart range. This line of products is aimed pretty much at everyone as it treats visible signs of age, and also prevents ageing of the skin. Although this is meant for more mature skin types it really is great for all kinds of skin.
As always with Dermalogica only the best goes into their products and this is no exception. All natural botanical based, vitamin rich ingredients are packed into this little, silver tube.
This is an unusually textured cream it's thick and silky with a smooth feel to it. It has the usual fruity scent that is recognisable to a lot of Dermalogica products. This like the whole range has no artificial anything including fragrances, and their products are NEVER tested on animals.
As in my previous review I would recommend using my dermatologist friends tip on how to apply eye cream.
Squeeze the tube very gently as with these little tubes too much pressure can result in most if not all of the product shooting out of the tube. So lightly squeeze a very small amount of the cream on to your fingertip, then use the three tap technique.
This is where you tap your finger very lightly at the coroner of your under eye nearest to your nose.
Then without putting on more of the cream, use the same finger to tap in the centre of your under eye and finally still with the same cream as you started with, tap on the outer edge of your under eye below where the eyebrow should end.
This technique guarantees even distribution of the cream. Then simply and lightly, using little to no pressure, spread the cream from dot one too three. And repeat for the other eye. With any remaining product that may be on the tip of your fingers you should apply this to the top of your eye, both the lid and the curve of your eyebrow. If you have visible lines on the outer edge of the eye such as crows feet you can target these directly with a very small amount of the product. Apply it to them, leave for thirty seconds then using your fingertip smooth out and upwards towards your temple. This is a slowly absorbed cream so unlike the other cream I reviewed, this gives you plenty of time to use massage techniques like this and also use the excess for your upper eyes. I recommended this cream to my Sister In Law and she was very pleased with the results when it came to instantly smoothing out the fine lines around her eyes. This was a result of not only moisturising the skin but the ingredient that really makes a difference when it comes to treating them there and then is the natural silicone. This fills in those fine crevasses, making them disappear right before your eyes. Unlike the other cream I reviewed this doest brighten the under eye, it does reduce and eventually remove under eye dark circles. But the last cream had a light reflecting pigment that gave an instant brightness to this area. This is a powerful natural eye serum that reduces the appearance of fine lines and puffiness, so you may want to apply a highlighter under your eyes if you want a bright eye effect.
I don't have fine lines, not yet. And hopefully with regular use of this cream and the other one I won't have too worry about them for some time. But for people that do have these lines, most people won't even notice them but you can, and this cream will give you the peace of mind you desire, with instant temporary results that eventually through it's natural goodness will result in more permanent results.

I feel in love with this product after having it used on me at a facial bought for me and the lasting feeling it gave afterwards.
I had never heard of Dermalogica before but everything at the saloon was made by them and although I tried some of the other products afterwards this is the only one I have stuck with.
It comes in a tiny tube that folds up like a toothpaste tube but is made of metal with a plastic cap. It has the normal things in it that are suppose to be good for your skin like vitamin A, C and E and seaweed extract but also silicones which i would guess is what gives it that lovely texture.
It is a slightly creamy coloured when it comes out and if you rub it between your fingers you can feel it coating them and making them smooth as silk. I have never used an eye cream that gives you that feel, most are slightly watery and just blend straight in.
As you apply this you can feel your fingers glide over the area you have done with this lovely smooth coating. Don't get me wrong it is not greasy or oily so I can only guess it is the silicones that do it. I don't know how much it helps with wrinkles but it makes the area feel lovely and it you are someone like me who rubs their eyes quite alot it is ace
Although the tube is tiny it has lasted me ages and it is easy to control how much comes out so you get use to the tiny amount you need.
I am certainly not well versed in skincare, having moderate to severe eczema I tend to use only the plainest products which I can be reasonably confident will not cause me to react to them. Ordinarily I will not pay over the odds for 'special' brands, as research has proved over the years that they do no better a job than their less expensive counterparts.
However, in January I underwent cataract surgery with all the pulling and prodding that entails. Ladies of a certain age will understand me when I say prolonged manipulation of the lower eyelid is not ideal; my surgery, having left me with better eyesight, also left me with a less desirable side effect - appalling bagging beneath my eyes. I shall be honest, I'm 64 years old so have all the loose skin (and more) you'd expect to find around my eyes but having had my lower lid pulled down and clamped into position has made the problem much worse. In actual fact it's not a problem, I'm not a vain woman, but the lack of elasticity in my aging skin did start getting me down after I had my operation.
Dermalogica Power Firm was recommended to me by my beauty enthusiast niece who, knowing my reluctance to spend huge sums of money on skincare items, did everything in her power to convince me. And convince me she did, leading me to part with £24 for a very small silver tube containing just 15ml of Multivitamin Power Firm.
This product is surprisingly good, I will tentatively say that it was money well spent as it has improved the condition and appearance of the skin underneath my eyes. I say tentatively as I still say skincare is drastically overpriced in this country and I'm certain most of these so called 'prestige brands' could shave a few pounds off their prices, although for me personally Power Firm has worked exceedingly well.
The product is designed to be rubbed into the skin around the eyes, where it will target the fine lines and help firm up the skin itself. It has an ointment-like consistency, is very slightly greasy and a little bit creamy which makes it beautifully smooth to massage into my ailing skin. The texture of Power Firm puts me in mind of Germolene and other such ointments, it certainly doesn't feel luxurious to use - something which irked me slightly considering how much it cost!
There is no odour to the cream and, as expected from a Dermalogica product, I have had no adverse reaction to it. I recall the first two or three times I used it I experienced slight watering in my eyes, but this quickly righted itself and since then there have been no problems. I cannot completely put this watering down to the Power Firm as I had had my eye surgery so recently, but it only happened soon after applying the product so I definitely have my suspicions.
I initially used Power Firm twice a day, but this resulted in a few blackheads appearing in the places where I had applied it as the formulation is fairly heavy. After dealing with those pesky blackheads I began just using the product once a day in the morning and it seems to suit my skin much better doing it like this. It took a good fortnight for any results to be noticeable, but one day I noticed the baggy skin beneath my eyes was looking less baggy (I baulk at using the words 'taut' or 'tight' as this does not describe the skin on any part of my body!) and since that day I have become more and more impressed with the effects.
My skin is definitely firmer and more well defined around my eyes, frankly at my age it is never going to revert to how it looked and felt when I was in my twenties but there is a definite improvement. It is a combination of A, C and E vitamins which cause this tightening along with an organic silicone which promises to protect against further damage to the delicate skin in this area.
I believe Power Firm can also be used on the lip area to help combat fine lines, I must admit I would rather use an inexpensive lip balm for this purpose so cannot comment on how well this aspect of the product works. On my eyes, however, I am delighted with the results and will continue to purchase this excellent cream - it does what it says, and that is all one can really ask for.
Dermologica Multivitamin power firm is a sort of gel/ointment product made for "the smart management and treatment of skin aging".
It has been made specifically with the eye area in mind and claims to be a firming agent that combats visible lines around the eye. It contains vitamin A and antioxidant vitamins C and E to "improve elasticity and smoothnes while scavenging free radicals" The product is made so that it does not contain any artificial fragrance or colour.
The product has a consistency similar to savlon - sort of an ointment consistency that is colourless and cloudy but not creamy. It comes in a small silver tube and has a small nozzle so that it is easy to control the amount of product that comes out of the tube. This is a good thing because the product itself is rather pricey!
The product should be smoothed around the eyes, especially on those areas where you can see fine lines starting to emerge. The product feels light on the skin and a little does go a long way.
I would recommend to use it sparingly and just on those areas just under the eyes or at the size of eyes where lines are or are starting to appear. I wouldn't recommend using it on upper lids as I once did this, thinking that it would help to decrease the chances of aging on these areas - however I just ended up with puffy eyes in the morning!
The product can be used day or night but I would definitely recommend just using it at night, to help repair your skin while asleep.
A great product, used in moderation.
Last year I started to notice some fine lines and crepeyness around my under eye area. I therefore decided to start using an eye cream more regularly. I didn't notice any improvement with the cream I was using so when I was given Dermalogica's Multivitamin Power Firm for my birthday I was really keen to give it a go.
According to the media this product is a favourite of supermodels before they go on the catwalk and apparently is also favoured by Victoria Beckham. The product comes in a simple silver tube with a white screw on lid and a standard size (15ml) has an RRP of £29. The tube has the Dermalogica logo written down the side. It also has the 'Age Smart' logo on it, which is the name of Dermalogica's anti ageing range. The whole Age Smart range consists of ten products in total (which includes Super Rich Repair, Antioxidant hydromist and Skin Resurfacing Cleanser) all designed to treat ageing at its source. The Multivitamin Power Firm is designed to be used on Mature or prematurely ageing skin.
The product contains an infusion of vitamins A, C and E which can help accelerate the skins own natural repair process and also strengthen elasticity and promote smoothness. The inclusion of these vitamins also acts as a defence against free radicals. As with other Dermalogica products it does not contain Mineral Oil, Lanolin, S.D. Alcohol or artificial fragrances or colours.
It's got quite a different consistency to usual eye creams, kind of cross between a cream, a rich gel and a balm. The unusual consistency may be because the product contains silicone which is included to smooth the area around the eye. I actually like the consistency. To me it feels like it is a concentrated treatment as opposed to just a standard eye cream. This I guess ties in with its name. The product does have fragrance to it. I can't think of anything the smell reminds me of but it is fairly sweet smelling and I would say pleasant.
The instructions tell the user to smooth the product around the eyes, concentrating on areas of visible ageing. I find I only need to use a very small amount. I usually dispense an amount that is approximately half the size of pea. I find if I use too much it just sits on my skin instead of soaking in. If I apply eye make up straight after putting it on, my make up doesn't stay in place. Therefore when I get up in the morning I normally gently dab the product under my eye, concentrating on where my lines are and also to the side of my eye. I then leave it to soak in. It can sometimes take up to five minutes to completely soak in before I can apply my make up. This might sound like a pain when you are in a rush but I generally just get on and do something else in this time, like brush my teeth. Once applied the product works immediately. I always see a visible improvement after I've applied it. The lines around my eyes are far less visible and remain this way throughout the day. Because the product doesn't particularly have a creamy consistency to it I was worried it would not have a moisturising effect. I am happy to say though this is not the case, after using it my under eye area does feel perfectly moisturised.
There are no instructions telling you how often you should apply the product. I find it best to apply it in the morning and then again in the evening. Whilst it doesn't seem to give the eyes that brightening awake look it does do an excellent job of smoothing the fine lines and crepeyness around my eye. It also acts as a good base for my makeup, which then glides on. Like many eye creams and line smoothers the effect they have is often just temporary. Unfortunately, I can't say the product has diminished my lines altogether but it does make them appear less and they look and feel softer too. My under eye area feels more soothed and calm, this is possibly thanks to the Green Tea contained in the product. I generally do not to suffer from dark circles so I can not say how effective the product is at reducing them.
Would I recommend this product? I definitely would to somebody who is bothered by fine lines and is happy to have them temporarily smoothed. If you are hoping for your lines to disappear permanently, I would say this is not the product for you. Of course the other thing to consider is the cost. It's definitely worth having a look round online as it seems to be available for quite a bit cheaper than the RRP of £29. Currently, (January 2010) the best price I could find is £20.99 from www.beautycow.com. It's also available at £21.98 (which includes delivery) from www.jerseybeautycompany.co.uk. I think this price is still pretty steep though. I don't think I could justify spending this amount myself, even though I really do like the product. Although, I think it's worth mentioning that I've been using the product for just over 6 months twice a day and I still have half of the tube remaining. I am therefore hoping it lasts me until my next birthday.
Thanks for reading.
