I first started using the Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel about a year ago when I bought the product in Selfridges at the Trafford Centre in Manchester. I had never used Dermalogica before but I had heard reviews (mostly positive) about their range of skincare products. I don't suffer from eczema or any other skin condition but have occasionally oily skin and i'm in the mid-20's. This product came in a 50ml bottle and cost me about £25. Quite expensive but I do believe these higher end products do have a great effect on maintaining good skin. Anyway, this product is fragrance and soap free. What I first noticed when I usd the product was that you only need a pea-size amount which when added with water builds up into a nice lather. I tend to use this product just once a day, mostly in the morning in the shower to give the skin a good clean before I apply moisturiser. I don't feel like there is any need to wash the face with soap after you've used this product as you instantly noticed that clean and fresh feeling. I honestly can't fault this product whatsoever. You notice that 'clean' feeling almost straight away but after a few weeks of using this product every day you will start to see the effects. I've had many comments on how 'good my skin' is compared to other guys (yes i'm male, bit of a metro-sexual). It may be pricey, but it is a longlastic product and defintly worth the money.
This is an excellent facial cleanser/face wash which has amazing instant results. I was luckily enough to recieve a small bottle of this product to try a couple of months ago and I am now completley converted and its one of my bathroom essentials. I think this product is best used as a type of face wash either in in the bath or shower. This product is has a clear gel like consistency which looks quite smooth. On first application I squeezed a small amount of product onto wet fingers. As I started lightly rubbing the product between my fingers I noticed immediatley the lovely smooth and soft lather. I then applied in circular motions all around my face. This cleanser is so gentle and smooth on the skin. When applying you can feel your face becoming so lovely and clean, and once rinsed my face felt rivigorated, clean, smooth, refreshed and fully cleansed. All traces of make up were removed including all my eye make up, which can be difficult for some cleansers. The cleanser gave no irritation to face or eyes as it is so light and gentle. The only slight down side is that it does not seem to have a nice scent or fragrance. It doesnt have a horrible scent by all means, however I would of liked it to have a nice pleasant scent to it.
I have finally finished using the Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel (amongst others I must add) so I feel that now after I had been using it for several months I could give it a fair review. I received the 50ml bottle in a set that I won as a prize and although I thought at first the size of the bottle wouldn't last me very long I was very pleasantly surprised. The Special Cleansing Gel comes in 3 sizes, 50ml, 250ml and the largest 500ml. These are priced anywhere between £8-£33 respectively. The bottle is very much the same as all Dermalogica products with a click-able lid although I have began to notice as the Dermalogica bottles are of quite a hard rigid plastic I do find that it can be hard to get the product right from the bottom of the bottle especially with this cleansing gel as it was of a very thick consistency. Although as it is a thick gel I found that I didn't squeeze too much so I didn't get any wastage. The gel is clear in colour and is quite thick, it also has a very light scent to it which is slightly minty and clinical much like other Dermalogica products. It contains anti-inflammatory ingredients which is great if you do suffer from acne or the odd spot. To use the gel I first dampened my face, squeezed a little of the gel into my hands (around a pea sized amount) worked into a very light lather, I think I was expecting more bubbles but there are very few. I then applied to my face and massaged into my skin, after massaging I rinsed off with water and then to close my pores splashed my face with cold water. I found that it was great at removing light makeup but any heavy eye makeup I found I had to use a facial wipe first then apply the cleanser. When massaging the gel into the skin it feels very silky and smooth and afterwards my skin felt soft and very clean and I didn't experience any tightness on my face. After a good few weeks of using this cleanser I found that it didn't break me out and helped to calm my spots but it didn't really do anything to help get rid of them. I did really like this cleanser but for someone that does suffer with spots I found that although it did calm them and my skin did feel lovely and soft I wanted something that was going to help clear my skin up at the same time. I think if my skin was already clear then this would be great for me, as my mum who has older skin used this and adored it so much that she went out and brought the 250ml bottle as it worked so well for her skin. I would definitely recommend trying a smaller size first before you commit to a larger size to see if it does work for your skin.
Dermalogica is a company well renowned for its skincare products, but the brand's high prices make buying products from the range a rare event for most people. A few years ago I bought a travel skincare kit, which included a moisturiser, toner and this Special Cleansing Gel, amongst a couple of other things. I've never had bad skin but I do find that, if I don't use a good cleanser, I am prone to getting a few spots. I recently came home for a couple of weeks and left my cleanser back in Edinburgh and soon found my face breaking out and so had to run out and buy a new one, proving that a good cleanser is essential even for people with relatively good skin. == Special Cleansing Gel == Anyway, this is the cleanser that I got in my Dermalogica kit a few years ago. I have combination skin that is prone to spots of dryness and since this is included in a set for normal/dry skin, I gleaned that this would be suitable for my skin type. You use it by first wetting your face and neck, and then squeeze a couple of drops from the bottle into your hand and then lather on to your face, then rinse and repeat once. You then follow with toner and moisturiser as per your skincare routine. == What I Thought == I thought that this was a great cleanser. After use my face felt much softer and smoother and as though it had been properly cleaned. It helped to a certain extent with the dry patches on my skin and also prevented me getting spots somewhat. My 50ml bottle that I received as part of the kit lasted me about a month to six weeks of near daily use, if I remember rightly, which isn't bad going for what is such a tiny bottle. The packaging of a white bottle with grey lid and writing is also nice if a bit clinical looking. == Conclusion == I found this to be a good cleanser which helped my skin. My face felt softer and smoother and it alleviated any dry areas at least a small amount. It certainly did not have any bad effects and I found it a good cleanser to use. It is, however, not a cleanser that I have bought since, but this is due mainly to price and to finding another one that I like just as much. I've been using Clinique cleansers for a while now and find them to be better value for money as well as just as good on my skin, if not better. That said, I certainly wouldn't be averse to trying it again when my current cleansers run out. For another 50ml bottle, johnandgingerbeauty.co.uk charge £8.45 (reduced from £11) , while they charge £18.75 for 250ml and £33.37 for a pretty big 500ml bottle. While the larger bottle obviously represents better value for money (at 10 times the size of the smallest bottle at only four times the price), it's still quite a lot to spend all in one go for most people. That said, it is quality that matters and I reckon a 500ml bottle would last you a very long time, so if it works for your skin, it's probably a good investment.
This was another of the free samples I got when I bought a full sized product from this range. I feel that thsi range works well for my skin kind, as I have Oily skin which is a bit spotty as well and although this range is expensive I find that a little goes a long way so a bottle can last a little longer than you may imagine. After looking online for this product I see that you can get this in 3 different sizes. There is the 50ml, 250ml and 500ml. As usual the largest size works out the cheapest price, but at least you can buy the 50ml if you want to see if it would work for you and then you wouldn't be stuck paying over the odds for it. I see that the 50ml costs around £10-£12, the 250ml is around £16-£20 and the 500ml is around £30-£33 so I feel that the 500ml is actually an alright price in my view for such a brand. The bottle looks alright. I don't think the packaging look all that expensive or fancy for this brand, but it is a simple looking bottle and when you see the brand then you will know that it is a brand named product. To use this just put a blob of this into your damp palm, rub together and this will allow the thick Gel to lather up slightly and it has lots of fine bubbles through it. To look at it I thought this may be a bit drying on my face although this is Soap free, but my cheeks are a little dry and I find that Gel's can either work well on my face or be slightly drying on my cheeks. This done alright but I think the first time I used this I put a little bit too much on and my face seemed to be a little stiff, but that's what I mean about just using a little of this. Once this has been rinsed off my face feels nice and soft and I feel that this keeps the oiliness away. Although this doesn't state that it is for Oily skin I feel that this works well but I will stick to my normal one from this range which is more for oily and spot prone skin. A good product if you have normal skin as this cleans deep down and is soft and gentle for your skin.
This Special Cleansing Gel is an all in one magic potion from those loveable skin magicians at Dermalogica. This is a totally 100% soap free cleanser. This will under no circumstances ever dry out your skin and leave it feeling striped and tight like soap will. Think of soap, and then think of the total opposite of all of it's negative qualities and results and then you'll start to realise what this product and the company that makes it is all about. Clean, fresh, healthy, youthful, natural beauty, that's what I think of when I use Dermalogica. As always there are no artificial colours preservatives or flagrance's in this gel and no Dermalogica product is ever tested on animals. The packaging is nothing new basic black on White bottle with a black flat top lid. This means you can stand it on it's head or as it's intended. The lid is a flip top, just like a conditioner or shampoo bottle. This product goes a very long way, you only need a tiny amount to effectively cleanse your face. Just dampen your face with warm water and squeeze a small amount into the palm of your hand and gently rub your hands together. The gel quickly transforms into a luxurious cream with a silky touch. Apply this to your face (as always please avoid the delicate eye area). Massage into your skin for a couple of minutes to guarantee a good clean and also stimulate your skin. I like to leave it for the same amount of time I did for the cleanse to penetrate my skin, so that's another two minutes. Then simply wash off using as always clean, fresh, warm water. And pat dry with a soft dry towel. The results are immediate, my skin was soft and moisturised all from doing a very quick and easy cleansing routine. This can be purchased online at : amazon.co.uk for £21.00 + shipping
If you have read my review on Dermalogica exfoliating brush then you will see how much I recommend using this product alongside it. Dermalogica was founded in 1986 in America, and basically set out to develop a brand of skin products that did not contain irritants such as alcohol and lanolin. This facial wash is a clear gel like formula which creates a lovely lather. Personally I wet my face first apply a pea size drop of the gel, as it it concentrated it a little goes along way. Then i work in to a nice foam and start gently brushing in small circles. Just rinse off with luke warm water, I follow this with a cold splash of water to close the pores and pat gently to dry the face. Its packaging looks quite basic, but I actually think it also looks professional. As its creating no fuss products, keeping it simple give's the best results, so maybe the packaging reflects this. I have sent away for some free samples for their other products, free samples are available from http://www.beautyflash.co.uk. In my opinion I actually thought it was a great idea to actually go to a professional salon and get some advice first as. I went along to the actual Dermalogica store in Kingston Upon Thames, where the advice was excellent. The products are quite expensive this special cleansing gel starts at £8.45 for 50ml upward to £32.99 for 500ml. As i previously mentioned though it is concentrated so it will last.
As you may have noticed I am a bit of a Dermalogica fan, mainly because I suffer from eczema, rosacea and sensitive skin (I really do sound like a mess when I write it out like that!). Anyway this cleanser was recommended to me by a friend and I dutifully went out and bought it. It isn't cheap, even buying it online I paid £19 for 250ml, but I'd heard good things so I was happy to give it a try. The packaging is typical Dermalogica packaging, clean, simple and some may say a little clinical. As I have said before I really don't care too much about packaging, it is what is inside the packaging that matters, however, I do like the simplicity of this brand. This is a soap and fragrance-free cleanser designed to cleanse without stripping your skin. So I thought it would be perfect for my rubbish skin. I only needed a pea-sized amount of the gel to clean my whole face. I splashed water on my face first and then rubbed the cleanser in, it foamed up nicely and smelled really lovely, kind of minty with a hint of floral, possibly lavendar. After rinsing my skin felt clean but not taut and horrible. I used this morning and night and after a couple of weeks my skin felt calm and clear, it didn't react with my ezcema or rosacea and it didn't cause me to breakout in spots. All in all I have been very impressed with this gel cleanser and it really does warrant it's special name. I have also found that my small bottle has lasted me around 3 months of using morning and evening, so it isn't really as expensive as I first thought!
My Mum seems to have a growing collection of Dermalogica products, all of which I do tend to try, her newest edition is their Special Cleansing Gel. There are three sizes available for this product, 50ml, 250ml and 500ml, my Mum opted for the smallest as she'd never tried it before and although she had tried couldn't seem to get a sample from anywhere. Although in most places it sells for £11, my Mum found it online for £8.45 with free delivery which is a bit of a saving (www.pure-beauty.co.uk). The product comes in a cheap looking bottle if I'm honest, the same that is carried with the whole Dermalogica range. A simple white bottle has the Dermalogica logo up one side in black lettering, the product name is also in very small lettering. I think the packaging is quite harsh looking, some people might think of this as a sleek and stylish bottle but I don't think it works. The lid is black with a white top which clicks down to reveal a small hole which the cleanser is dispensed from. The cleansing gel is soap and fragrance free; it's clear in colour too which makes this feel like a very natural and gentle product. To use I put a little of the cleanser onto the palms of my hands and work it into a lather before rubbing over my already damp face and neck. I rub hard on my t-zone which I often find to be a problem area for oily skin and finish by rinsing off the cleanser with warm water. Dermalogica recommend that you repeat the process for best results however I never feel the need to cleanse more than once with this. I've found that if I'm wearing my usual light makeup this cleanser finds it very easy to remove, however if I'm wearing slightly heavier makeup it's near impossible and as I didn't really want to cleanse twice I ended up using my usual Clarins cleanser. I have to say though that I did give the cleanser a good try and it did reduce the oiliness of my t-zone, after about 10 days though my skin started to feel a little bit dry. I started to moisturise straight after cleansing and this combated the problem. After my little trial period of Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel I've been quite impressed. It is a bit drying with continual use but this is easily solved and the cleanser does reduce oiliness. I don't think this cleanser is the best for heavy makeup users but for the light user it's a decent cleanser although obviously if you're going to use it long term the bigger bottles do get pricey!
I have used Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel for just a few short weeks having bought the 250ml bottle to see what it was like. I have used Dermalogica products in the past, so this is reason enough for me to continue using their products as I have had some very satisfactory experiences from them. The gel comes in a typical white Dermalogica bottle which is emblazoned with the branding and the product name. The cap is simple to operate, pushing down on one side to open the gap for dispensing the gel. The gel itself is soap-free and foams very well to a good lather. The gel is designed to successfully remove impurities and excess oils from the skin without altering the skins natural moisture balance. To my disappointment I found that the gel is fragrance free. The gel leaves my skin feeling very relaxed and calm, whilst giving it a refreshed and cooling sensation also. I love to experience new scents, so it would have been nice to have given this product one too. There are extracts of both mint and lavender, so perhaps their scent would have been nice aswell. The Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel is available in both a 250ml and 500ml sizes and is priced at £18 and £32 accordingly. The gel lathers very well and at this price it is nice to know you are getting what you pay for. In the few short weeks I have owned and used this product I have found my skin to be a lot clearer of spots. Also, my skin feels much cleaner and less oily. Often my nose is where most of the oil is noticeable but I am not feeling as dirty anymore. I used to shower and still feel dirty having only rinsed my face in water as shower gel doesn't often agree with my face. The product from Dermalogica comes with my own recommendation as it does that of many skin experts.
I decided to try Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel after reading rave reviews, hoping it would help to clear my spot prone skin. The first thing that put me off the product was the price (costing approximately £25 for 250ml sized bottle), probably the most expensive cleanser I have tried (I usually use high street branded cleansers, costing me no more than £5). Secondly, the packaging is not exactly eye catching, I wouldn't buy it just to look good in my bathroom cabinet. The look is plain and simple, as all Dermalogica products are. I had read in a magazine that makeup artists advise celebrities to remove their makeup with this product as it is supposed to be good at removing thick layers of makeup as well as removing impurities. I wear a lot of foundation and had felt that face wipes were just not removing all of my makeup & my face did not feel clean. I bought the product feeling very optimistic about the results it would achieve. When I first used the product I particularly liked the fact that the gel was fragance free and clear, seemed like a very simple product which I thought would be beneficial for my sensitive skin. I used the gel with a full face of makeup on, hoping the product would remove it all easily. As it turned out I had to wash my face twice with the product to remove the makeup, and even then there was slight makeup marks on the towel when I dried my face. However, after I used the product my face felt 'squeaky clean' without feeling really dry. After about a month of using the product morning and night, it has become a staple in my routine. I do use my facewipes to remove the majority of my makeup before I use the cleansing gel, as I feel then I can ensure that my skin is entirely clean. The product definitely reduced the amount of spots on my face, and I am mostly impressed by the way in which the oil on my face has reduced. Before using the product I would have to use blotting sheets constantly throughout each day to control the shine under my makeup, after using the gel after only a couple of weeks my face is not shiny AT ALL, it is great, my face feels normal (not oily or too dry). I must admit after using the gel for a few weeks I felt a tightening of my skin afterwards and felt the need to follow up with a light moisteriser (in no way was my skin too dry though). I would definiteley recommend this product, mainly because it controls the oil on my face and hence results in less spots. Advantages: Only need a small amount of gel each wash to be effective (size of a 5p) - (when mixed with water, ie applied to wet hands and then wet face) / Significantly reduces the oil and shine on face / Helps to improve acne / 250ml last a long time (hence I would say it is worth the money) i've had mine for 3 months and still have about half left. Disadvantages: Doesn't remove makeup totally if you wear a lot / Doesn't clear acne just helps to improve it / packaging is not up to much so won't look in the bathroom cabinet.
Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel (250ml). I purchased this Dermalogica Cleansing Gel for the cost of £18.50 and this was for a 250ml bottle of the cleansing gel. I have read rave reviews about this cleanser and I was keen to try it. Most of the comments I have read about this cleanser say that a little goes a long way and that a 250ml bottle lasts for ages. At the cost of £18.50 I really hope it lives up to it's fab reviews! The Product: The cleansing gel comes in a white plastic bottle with a black lid. The bottle has the name of the product on the side of the bottle and directions for use on the back of the bottle. The lid of the bottle has a small dispensing flap, you basically just pop up the hard plastic flap and dispense the cleansing fluid through the flap. This helps to save you from dispensing too much of the product. The whole packaging is quite basic, it is merely a container for the cleansing gel, it is not at all fancy and this in itself makes this cleanser look like a no nonsense product. The actual cleansing gel is white in colour, it has a dense texture and feel soft to touch. To use the product you dispense a small amount of the gel into wet hands and then lather the gel gently between your fingers and apply it to your face. It should be manipulated into your skin and then it should be rinsed away with with hand hot water. The gel is soap free and fragrance free and has been developed to wash away inpurities without drying your skin. It is suitable for all skin types and contains calming agents to soothe and purify your skin. The foaming lather cleanses away toxins and debris without over-drying any skin type, leaving a super-clean surface. My Results: Firstly I really like using a gel cleanser. I would never wash my face with soap and water but I like the feeling of washing my face and a cleansing gel is usually the answer. When I use a wipe of cream cleanser I never feel that my face is really clean. I prefer the washing with water way every time. I squeeze a very small amount of this cleanser into my hands, about the size of a 10p piece. I don't use much as it costs £18.50 for 250mls and believe me when I say this has to last a while! I lather the cleanser and apply it to my face. There is no scent to this product at all. When the foam touches my face it feels soft and comforting. I give my face a good wash with the foamy gel and then I rinse it off. My face feels soft and clean. There is no residue, the gel rinses off really well. All in all I am very impressed. Feels just like washing my face with soap and water without the drying effects of soap. There is no stiffness or dryness to my skin at all and I now have perfectly clean skin ready for moisturiser. This cleanser is really lovely. I would recommend this cleanser to all as it is suitable for all skin types. Just be very mean when you are dispensing it as a little goes along way. Your 250ml bottle will last for ages and you will have fresh, clean and soft skin.
I studied beauty therapy at college and we got to use a range of dermalogica products in facials. Special cleansing gel ended up being my favourite cleanser that i found i used on most of my clients. Its suitable for all skin types, you apply to wet face and gently rub into face to form a lather. Its very gentle on the skin and thoroughly removes make up/inpurities, you can also use it a second time if you are wearing a lot of make up to ensure all traces are removed. Your skin is left feeling smooth and refreshed afterwards, and it has a lovely smell. It is fairly expensive for a bottle but i found it did last for a fair few months and is worth the price. The look of the bottle is very bland but it also makes it suitable for men to use as its not in any girly colours.
I am a big fan of the Dermalogica range as they are kind to sensitive skin and produce obvious results. I have been using the Special Cleansing Gel for about 8 months and my skin has not been this great for ages. The Special Cleansing Gel was recommended to me by my sister who always uses hypoallergenic products as she breaks out in red patches when she doesn't. I have eczema and so am careful with the soaps and gels I use to prevent my skin drying out. I originally used Special Cleansing Gel with a Dermalogica toner and Active Moist, and although I thought they were good products and noticed the affect on my skin, I also found them rather expensive. When I ran out of the toner and moisturiser I used the Special Cleansing Gel on its own and the benefits are still evident. The Special Cleansing Gel is soap-free, fragrance-free and cleans the impurities on the skin without being drying it out. The main elements in the Gel are: Quillaja Saponaria which removes excess oils, Balm Mint which cools and calms the skin and Lavender Extract which aids the cleansing and soothes the skin. As instructed by my sister (and the Dermalogica experts)! I get a 5p piece of gel in wet hands and gently rub it into my wet face which then creates a lather and cleans the face. I rinse with warm water and repeat. As I only use a small amount, it takes a while to get through a bottle. I bought the Special Cleansing Gel, and the other Dermalogica products, from www.jerseybeautycompany.co.uk as they specialise in this range and keep the prices low and have frequent offers. Their current price for the Special Cleansing Gel is 50ml Travel Size - £7.39 delivered 250ml - £15.98 delivered 500ml - £29.85 delivered
One of the most important items to get right in your skincare routine is the type of cleanser you use - I've been through lots and my current favourite is Dermalogica's Special Cleansing Gel. This was recommended to me by a Dermalogica specialist as I have combination skin and wanted something that would be gentle enough not to strip the moisture from my skin, but strong enough to tackle my more oily patches. Dermalogica are not my usual type of skincare/cosmetic company - to quote from their website: "Dermalogica is founded on the belief that good skin care is not about pampering or luxury...any more than brushing your teeth or washing your hair is! Call us no-nonsense, but we believe that consumers want results, not frilly packaging or overblown hype. And we've found that consumers and leading skin care professionals alike in over 40 countries agree!" Now I like my products to be much more about pampering so this "basic" philosophy didn't really grab me. However, having been incredibly impressed with their Multi-Vitamin Power Recovery Masque, I was more than willing to give this one a try. The Special Cleansing Gel is a soap free product - I wouldn't dream of putting soap anywhere near my face! It contains natural Quillaja Saponaria (which has foaming anti -inflammatory properties to cleanse toxins and debris), Lavander Extract for gentle cleansing, and Balm Mint to cool and calm the skin, reducing any red or blotchy patches. Like all Dermalogica products it also has no artificial fragrance or colour. The packaging, like all Dermalogica products, is very no-nonsense - grey and white colour scheme and a plastic cylinder bottle with a flip top lid. It's very practical - the style of lid means that you can dispense the smallest amount and minimize wastage, there is no leakage and the plastic means that you can easily keep it out by the sink or even in the shower without the bottle becoming damaged. The gel itself is clear in colour and fairly unremarkable looking. There is no artificial fragrance added, but you can detect a lavender and tea tree scent, giving it a rather medicinal feel. For someone who loves their smelly beauty products I have to admit I do miss a lovely citrus smell to wake me up in the morning! The faint smell doesn't linger on your skin though which is good as I hate when body lotion smells sit alongside your perfume. To use simply pump a tiny amount of cleanser into the palm of your hand, about the size of a pea will do your whole face, and rub gently in your hands before working the gel into a deep cleansing lather and apply to your dampened face and throat. Rinse with warm water and pat dry with a towel. The cleanser foams up nicely and doesn't overfoam so you can see exactly where you are applying the cleanser. The process is quick, taking about a minute, so good for a quick morning routine. Like all Dermlogica products this isn't cheap - for a 250ml bottle expect to pay about £20 from Dermalogica reselling salons, or from online discount stores for about £17 - it pays to shop around! I bought mine from hqhair.com for £17. Although it is undoubtedly expensive, it really does last forever. I am notoriously stingy with the way I apply beauty products and my 250ml bottle has lasted me over 2 years! For a normal person I would expect this to last them about a year using it morning and evening, but you can certainly get a lot more use out of it if you are careful! For my combination skin I find this to be a great product - true to its claim it manages to cleanse my skin thoroughly, leaving it feeling clean and refreshed without any tightness, but is gentle enough that it doesn't irritate any dry patches I have. Dermalogica recommend this for normal and combination skin - normal skins can probably get away with a cheaper cleanser and I suspect it might even be a bit drying for normal skin, but for difficult combination skin this is a godsend!
