“ Brand: Dermalogica / Type: Cleanser / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types / What it does: Cleanses, „
Having used Dermalogica products for a number of years now I eventually got round to trying their 'The Bar'. I do a lot of shopping online and I find such products as these a little cheaper online, so it is worth shopping around for the best deal. I paid around £14 online a while back, but there are always price changes and better deals around, so this is just a guide as to what to expect to pay.
The packaging is typical Dermalogica, 'The Bar' being wrapped in grey paper and simply 'The Bar' written on it, alongside the Dermalogica logo. I think the packaging is quite smart and has a clean look about it. The 142g size means this will last a good few months. Personally it has lasted me 3 months and there is still a small amount left. The bar itself just carries the Dermalogica logo on it and the colour can only be described as off-white.
Use of 'The Bar' is pretty straightforward, just using it to wash your body like you would a bar of soap. 'The Bar' gives a rich lather and lathers up well on my body, I then simply rinse it off. I am left with cleaner feeling skin and also much smoother. You may be wondering why I spent £14 on a bar of soap, but this is not just any bar of soap!
Although 'The Bar' looks and acts like a bar of soap, Dermalogica market it as a Dermalogica Cleanser in bar form. Something very significant for myself is that 'The Bar' is soap-free. I don't have a terrible reaction to soap, but it does make me sneeze for a while during and after use, so it is nice touch and means my experience is much more pleasant.
My skin feels incredibly smooth and soft after using 'The Bar' and cannot say I have anything negative to say about this product. I do like Dermalogica products a lot, though, but I am most impressed yet again. One key ingredient is Tea Tree Oil, which is used in a lot of skincare products and is useful for those suffering from acne-prone skin. The natural antiseptic found in Tea Tree Oil makes this an ideal product for those with acne and can be abblied to your back aswell, something you may not usually do with a face-wash.
If you have sensitive or gentle skin then that is no problem and I have found my skin much softer and also feeling calmer after use. Let Dermalogica look after your skin with 'The Bar'. The only clear downside is the price, but once you notice the results of using this product you will disregard this concern.
I paid £16 for this bar of soap which promises to cleanse and purify the skin without stripping it of it's natural oils. The soap looks like any normal bar of soap, nothing special. It smells pleasant, a sort of herbal smell. This could be down to the Lavender and Tea Tree that is included in the soap. It does smell quite feminine though.
The soap lathers well and the lather feels lovely and creamy. It is easy to smooth all over the face and it doesn't irritate the nose or make you sneeze. The soap is easy to rinse off and it doesn't leave your face feeling "tight" after use. It also rinses away easily and it doesn't leave any nasty residue on your skin once rinsed off. It is a lovely facial soap for this time of the year as it is really creamy and moisturising. I love it! It IS expensive but it does last ages, as long as you only use it on your face. It's a bit expensive to use on your body.
I would also suggest that you place the soap in a soap dish after use as sometimes it can break up when submerged in water.
This is a nice soap and is suitable for all skin types. It helps the skin to maintain it's natural moisture balance and it also helps combat blemishes. A great all round soap for the face.
Available from most Dermalogica retailers and online via the Dermalogica website.
Dermalogica a name I trust. That wasn't always the case. But since I tried a few of their range i have gone a bit crazy and now ONLY use them. The fact that everything is natural and beneficial to your skin is a no brain-er for me. I realise that they are on the higher end when it comes to face and body care products but i see results with Dermalogica. and the cheaper products I was using for years showed little to no results in all of that time.
When someone happens to ask me about the bar of soap in my bathroom they are shocked every time, guarantied, when I tell them the price.
"Are you mad? Oh they saw you coming a mile off."
Yes it looks like a bar of soap, and yes you can get a pack of four down the shops for £1. But this like all of Dermalogica's products aren't as simple as the packaging or the product itself implies.
This large bar contains the most wonderful, nourishing, complementary ingredients that your skin not only needs but loves. It has sandalwood with it's lovely scent and health benefiting properties, there is also tee tree oil as featured in a lot of their range and for good reason. It is a natural antiseptic, antibacterial, anti fungal and anti-inflammatory to name just a few of it's uses, and that's only one of the ingredients. More of the delectable ingredients included are tropical and citrus fruits, spices and the calming effects of pure lavender oil.
As you can tell by my minuscule list of the vast amount of lovely ingredients, this shouldn't be referred to as a bar of soap. Everything in it works in harmony with each other to cleanse, moisturise, feed and pamper, your hard working skin. it can however be used exactly as you would a bar of soap, in the shower or simply just to wash your face. It's creamy and luxurious and smells divine. But most importantly it leaves my skin, be it the skin on my body or my face wonderfully clear and clean. I don't buy this as much as the other items in the range, as it lasts a while. It's not my number one product, but I do love it and I especially love the results.
This can be purchased online at : amazon.co.uk for £19.50 + shipping.
WHAT IS IT?
Dermalogica cleanser in bar form.
IS IT ANY GOOD?
I was skeptical about this as it feels strange using something that feels like soap on my face after years of using liquid cleansers. It's a good product but is nothing special as the swap to a solid format changes the cleanser completely, the waxy texture of the bar immediately makes me think I'm using standard soap and it doesn't lather well so doesn't feel like a luxury skin care product.
After rubbing the bar under warm water the cleanser becomes creamier but never manages to feel as nice as the Dermalogica cleanser it is supposed to be emulating. It feels soft against my skin and feels like Dove soap once you lather it up with some hot water, you need to make sure your face is very wet before using the cleanser otherwise it won't lather at all and becomes unpleasant to use.
It rinses away easily and thoroughly, never leaving any residue or itchy remnants of cleanser. This leaves my skin feeling clean and soft, it's quite drying so a moisturiser is a must although I'd guess this could be an advantage for those people with greasy skin. This is a very mild cleanser, I have a regular lady on my beautician books who uses this bar cleanser on her sensitive skin with no reaction at all. I was surprised to learn this as her skin is so sensitive that I have to be extremely careful about the products I use when applying them fir her facial.
3 Dooyoo Stars.
I am a huge fan of Dermalogica beauty products and one of my favourites that I use on a daily basis is the bar. The bar is basically a simple looking white bar of what looks like soap. However the bar is actually a bar of cleanser that is soap free.
The bar, like all Dermalogica products contains no lanolin or alcohol. It comes in a simple grey colourer box and has Dermalogica embossed on the bar. Dermalogica describe this product as a cleanser conveniently made into a bar. The bar contains tea tress oil and lavender, both of which act to help purify the skin. They also have antiseptic qualities that help keep the bar clean and hygienic. The bar also contains liquorice extract and vitamins A and E all of which help to calm and sooth the skin.Dermalogica say that this bar will not strip the skin of its natural moisture and will remove grime and debris.
I have been using this cleansing bar for several months so feel able to give my opinion. The bar is used just as you would any bar of normal soap. It lathers well and feels very creamy as I massage it into my face and neck. I don't use this bar to wash my body as that would be too expensive for me! The bar is excellent for removing makeup although if I am wearing eye make up I use an eye make up remover. The bar really does leave my skin feeling clean and fresh. It is also good for removing excess grease. I have fairly dry skin and don't find that this bar dries my skin, but actually leaves it feeling moisturised with no tightness.
Like all Dermalogica products this bar is not cheap! I bought my bar from my local beauty salon and seem to remember paying around £16. It is available on the internet and it is always worth shopping around for the best price. Although this is a very expensive cleanser, it works well and as long as you only use it to wash your face, it lasts well too!
Simplicity is one of the hall marks of Dermalogica products right the way from the simple un fussy packaging to the fact that they do not use synthetic fragrances or alcohol in their cosmetics. This means that their products are very kind to your skin and also that they are very effective. The main downside is that their products are not cheap, this Dermalogica Bar cost me £15.99 which is a lot to pay for a soap which weighs in at 142 grams.
It is a slightly greyish white colour with the company name printed on the top. It lathers up really easily when combined with a little water and has a rich creamy feel to it. It is very soft on my skin and my skin is left feeling healthy and cared for. It also feels very clean and the great thing about this soap is that it does not dry your skin out when you use it because of the absence of any alcohol in it. It also has a mild exfoliating action to it and certainly I find it particularly effective if my skin has become a little greasy especially when I have been wearing a lot of make up for work.
My skin certainly has a healthy feel to it after using this soap and it looks great as well. Despite the price I would recommend it mainly because it does last quite a long time provided you stand it up after use to allow it to dry properly. The bar does contain tea tree oil which acts as an antiseptic and also something called colloidal oatmeal which is meant to help calm skin down if it has become irritated. I would expect this product to be ideal for those people with sensitive skin as well.
Despite the price this is worth the money and I would recommend it.
This is a similar product to the Clinique bar cleanser, but I prefer this one. It comes in grey paper packaging, very simple and plain. The bar as you can see is just plain white and rectangular with the dermalogica logo imprinted on the front. The bar doesn't really have a smell, which I thought was good as scented products usually irritate my sensitive skin.
The bar doesn't contain any soap or any animal-derived ingredients and is basically a cleanser. It all sorts of natural ingredients, including tea tree and lavender to purify your skin (and the tea tree acts as an anti-bacterial agent in the soap, so it doesn't accumulate bacteria), colloidal oatmeal, liquorice extract and allantoin to calm and soothe your skin and Vitamin C & E to help recondition the skin.
I apply this to a damp face and it lathers up really well. It leaves my skin feeling clean and fresh but not tight. It seems to suit my skin and I haven't had any breakouts since I started using it.
I found that the bar lasts a lot longer than a liquid cleanser and so the £20 price tag isn't as bad as I thought it was. I also like that I'm using less packaging etc . All in all a really good product from Dermalogica.
My Mum's a big Dermalogica buyer and I regularly try the products she buys as there's a stack of them hanging around in our bathroom. Dermalogica, The Bar is something I used by accident really, it was just in the shower and I realised I'd ran out of my usual shower gel so I gave this soap a try instead. My mum usually buys her Dermalogica products online as they're a lot cheaper, if you get it direct from Dermalogica its £19 but lookfantastic.net sell it for £14.63 for a 142g bar.
The Claim: "This is not a soap - it's the performance of a Dermalogica cleanser, in a convenient bar form. Soap-free, non-animal-derived agents gently remove excess oils and debris without stripping the skin's natural moisture barrier. Specially formulated with Tea Tree and Lavender in an acid-balanced base to help avoid contamination. Anti-inflammatory Colloidal Oatmeal, Liquorice Extract and Allantoin, plus Vitamins A, C and E, calm, soothe and condition. Contains no artificial fragrance or colour".
The Bar is packaging very simply in a piece of grey paper, although it's basic it does the job, it makes you think of the product as very natural and organic which I like. The bar is rectangular and white, again very simply with the Dermalogica logo engraved into it.
The soap can be used on both your face and body as it has cleansing properties, it's great to use in the shower as you can get an all over wash with just one product. The soap lathers really well, I use a body puff which was really good, I found it useful to use this as appose to just using my hands. The soap doesn't really have a scent it's just really clean, my Mum also uses the soap, it's also suitable for men as it's such a neutral scent.
I've found the bar leaves me feeling really clean and refreshed, the lavender and tea tree really does purify my skin, it makes me feel really fresh and grime free. I don't use the soap all that often as I do generally prefer to use shower gels but whenever I do I'm reminded just how good it is. My Mum's had this soap for ages, about 5 months I'd say now and it's going down slowly, she uses it every day so it is good at lasting.
Overall, this is a great all in one cleanser for face and body making it good value. It leaves skin feeling really fresh and clean and it really lasts- but so it should for nearly £15 at its cheapest! I generally do prefer shower gels though and would love this product if it was available in a gel form.
I've been using Dermalogica products for a while now and so far have not been able to fault their products. They have been expertly making skin care goods since 1986 and their products are widely used and raved about by skin care professionals. They refuse to use ingredients that don't have any benefits to our skin such as synthetic fragrances, artificial colours, lanolin and alcohol. These are all common ingredients in other branded products and used because they are cheap. On the same token Dermalogica don't brand themselves as a luxury product; they don't have fancy packaging or make any wild claims. They simply provide good products in simple packaging that is designed to take care of our skin.
*Price and availability*
I buy most of my Dermalogica products online as they are so much cheaper than in a store. I bought the Clean Bar from ZestBeauty.net as they do free delivery on all Dermalogica products and it was the cheapest I've seen it priced at £14.63.
The Bar comes packaged up in plain grey paper with the Dermalogica logo down the side and "The Bar" written in type writer style font on the middle. It looks well packaged and personally, I think it would make a great gift as it looks expensive and contempory. The bar comes in the one size of 142 g so it is a decent size. The actual bar is off white and has the logo imprinted down the middle. After a few months of use it is starting to fade but it is still there!
*Directions to use*
I simply use the soap by rubbing all over my wet body. It lathers up a treat. I then wash my body and rinse off; leaving me with that delicious clean feel.
I have used this product with the Ultimate Dermalogica buffing cloth by rubbing it on the cloth. It worked fine but it left little marks in the soap like it had been scratched. I find the bar works best with my hands or with a flannel.
*What do they say*
"This is not a soap - it's the performance of a Dermalogica cleanser, in a convenient bar form. Soap-free, non-animal-derived agents gently remove excess oils and debris without stripping the skin's natural moisture barrier."
The bar does look like a regular bar of soap and had an occasion when a guest in my bathroom used it to wash his hands! For this reason and to make it keep better I bought the Dermalogica travel case to keep it in. This helps prevent it becoming soggy on the bottom and keeps it away from visitors! It means I can also take it to the gym or on holiday with ease. The case was only £2.20 and its stylish design means it looks great in my bathroom.
The actual bar feels great and very soft on my skin. It is unscented which is great as my boyfriend and I share it. I feel like when I use it that all the day's dirt and grease is washing off me as the bar gently exfoliates my skin giving it a deep down clean. After use I feel polished and delicious. If it is a shower on a morning I feel ready to face the day with my fresh glowing skin.
I find the soap perfect for use when shaving my legs or other delicate areas. It creates a good lather so the shave feels smooth and close. The bar contains anti-inflammatory Colloidal Oatmeal which soothes irritated skin. It also contains liquorice extract and Vitamins A, C and E. These calm and condition the skin leaving it smooth and softened.
Tea tree oil is also used in the bar. This ingredient is found in many spot fighting products as it is a natural antiseptic. This purifies the skin and helps maintain the bars purity. One of my concerns about having a product bar was that it may be unhygienic and that products that came in a pump action bottle were more hygienic however I don't worry about it because using the bar is such a good experience!
My boyfriend has quite sensitive skin and the bar is gentle on his skin but still gives it that deep down cleansing he needs. He doesn't moisturise after use and claims that after using the bar he doesn't need to. I still find my skin feeling dry after using it so definitely need to moisturise but it certainly doesn't dry my skin out to the degree normal soap does.
The bar is lasting me a while; I've had it about 3 months and it doesn't seem to go disappearing that quick. I think this is my favourite advantage to using the bar over using other Dermalogica cleaning products.
I'd recommend the bar to anyone. I've never felt cleaner after using it. As for the price, it is quite a lot of money but it is lasting well and the advantages of using it such as the tree oil and oatmeal make it a must have product for me.
Dermalogica is a brand that prides itself on the purity of its products. Its creations promise to enhance our beauty using natural ingredients that nourish and protect our precious skin. The company does not believe in fancy packaging or advertising because they believe that the products can speak for themselves.
One of my new favourite products by this brand is both simple in design and idea but brilliant in its results. The Clean Bar is a cleansing product in a solid form and it is suitable for all skin types. It is completely free from soap, and both artificial fragrances and colouring which makes it perfect for sensitive skin like mine. Its purpose is to remove impurities and excess oils from the skin without stripping it of any of its natural moisture.
How does it work?
The bar contains Tea Tree Oil which is regularly used in acne treatments because it helps to reduce the production of excess oil and speeds up the healing process. It has antiseptic qualities which kill any bacteria that may be lurking on the skin and it improves the overall health of your skin.
Sandalwood is included to soften the skin and give it a glowing and healthy radiance. Like Tea Tree Oil, it has antiseptic qualities so therefore helps to reduce blemishes and as it is an astringent, it tightens the pores which in turn regulates the production of sebum. It is soothing on the skin and because it is an anti inflammatory, then it reduces the puffiness of your morning face.
Also included in Licorice which is an antioxidant, meaning that it removes toxins from the skin and helps to keep it looking younger for longer. It also speeds up the healing process, acts as an anti inflammatory and is soothing on the skin.
Tumeric is present because of its ability to even out the skin tone and to remove toxins from the skin. It speeds up the healing process so it is great for getting rid of blemishes quickly. Grapefruit is also stirred into the mixture because of its anti aging properties and as it is rich in citric acid, it acts as an exfoliant leaving you with smooth and radiant skin.
Inside the bar, you'll also find Lavender which is another great substance for those suffering with acne. It rejuvenates the skin and encourages the growth of healthy new skin cells, while healing the skin and preventing the risk of scarring. It regulates the oil production of the skin and soothes and calms angry red spots.
A fruity concoction of Mango, Orange and Lime is present in order hydrate the skin and to nourish it with vitamins and minerals leaving it with a healthy glow. The citrus fruit helps to tone the skin, meaning your pores will be less obvious and your skin will look more youthful.
And finally Oats are included in order to soothe and heal the skin and give it a beautiful radiance. It is also commonly used to treat acne and combined with its anti aging properties, it leaves your skin looking as good as new.
How do you use it?
I make my face slightly damp to begin with and then with damp hands, I take the bar and turn it around in my hands until a lather has formed. Then putting the product down in a dry place, I massage the lather over my face for a few moments, ensuring that my eyes and mouth remain closed. Once that's done, I rinse the product away thoroughly and pat my face dry.
Packaging and Price
The product has a very simple design, as do all of Dermalogica's products. The bar is pure white and its only detailing is the brand name Dermalogica which has been imprinted on the front. The price reflects that of the quality of the product and it will cost you around £12 to purchase 114 grams. It is available from a variety of websites so it's worth shopping around in order to find the cheapest possible price.
I am so very careful with what I put on my skin, whether it is moisturisers, cleansers or make up but for some reason my rule book goes out of the window when I'm travelling. I was carrying soap with me to cut down on the weight of my luggage and to use up less space but I was buying the cheapest one I could find whereas at home, I spend up to £30 in order to get a good cleanser.
Needless to say, the health of my skin deteriorates when I'm away and I get more blemishes and my skin looks permanently greasy. But that was before I found this product and now it is my perfect travel companion.
It takes up next to no room in my suitcase and its light to carry. It's also better for the environment as there's no bulky plastic packaging required and I find that it is lasting much longer than my liquid cleanser, plus it's cheaper than them!
Firstly, this product is absolutely not a soap. It is simply a high quality cleanser in a solid form. And because it is not a soap then it doesn't dry my skin or leave it feeling uncomfortably tight. It doesn't sting or irritate my sensitive skin and it not only doesn't cause any new spots but it heals the spots that I may already have.
My skin is beautifully clear whenever I use this product and my normally shiny skin remains matte free for much longer than when I go without it. My face feels fresh and clean while retaining a good level of moisture.
This unisex product is perfect for use on both men and women. It removes all traces of sweat, dirt, pollutants and make up and that is evident by the how clean my white towels are after drying my face with them.
All in all, this is a cleanser that is packed full of natural ingredients that will help to reduce blemishes, even out the skin tone, nourish and moisturise your face while exfoliating and toning the whole face. Whether you need it for holidays, your over night bag or to take to the gym, it is completely travel friendly and gives you perfect results each time. I can not fault this product.
