I have fairly dry skin. In the Autumn and Spring I can generally get away with a good quality moisturizer for day to day use (I prefer DHC Rich Moisture), but in the winter when my skin is dried out by the heating and in the summer when it sees more sun I frequently need to add an intense nighttime moisturizer to my facial routine. For the last several years I have been using DHC Extra Nighttime Moisture with great success.
DHC is a Japanese based company that specializes in high quality skincare products. All products are free from parabens and most are free from unnecessary fragrances and colourings (I've noticed that a few of the new hair products have added fragrance). I have rather dry, sensitive skin. I am also highly scent sensitive. For me, DHC products are a breath of fresh air. They do wonders for my skin and don't contain loads of "smelly" extras.
Extra Nighttime Moisture
As the name suggests, Extra Nighttime Moisture is an intense night cream suitable for all skin types. It comes in a small but heavy glass pot with a black lid that unscrews. The design is simple, clean, attractive and gives the impression of quality. The jar comes in a sturdy white cardboard box that keeps it same during shipping although the glass is remarkably durable as I have knocked the glass pot off my cabinet onto the floor numerous times without it braking.
The cream is white in colour and quite thick. You can easily turn the pot upside down without fear. The cream feels light and spreads easily over the skin. This moisturizer has no added fragrance but carries a very subtle, slightly botanical scent which is only noticeable when you sniff the pot. It does not leave any scent on your skin (at least I don't notice any). I find this cream soaks in very fast and instantly sooths my dry skin. It feels quite light and allows my skin to breathe. However, it is a night cream and does leave the skin looking slightly greasy. If you have very dry skin you might be able to get away with applying this under foundation, but for normal to lightly dry skin you are best sticking to the intended nighttime use.
I find Extra Nighttime Moisture to be very effective. It provides instant relief for dry, itchy skin as well as lasting moisturizing benefits. Even in the harshest part of winter I only feel the need to apply it 4-5 per week, the rest of the year perhaps 2-3 times per week.
I normally apply this night cream in the evenings after washing my face. I also keep a pot by my bed for those nights I use a facial wipe instead. A little goes a long way. I normally just touch my finger to the cream once for each side of my face. As such, a single pot easily lasts me 6-8 months.
Price and Availability
To my knowledge, DHC Extra Nighttime Moisture is currently only available online. On the official DHC website www.dhcuk.co.uk it retails for £23.50 for a 45g pot, but is on offer until the end of November for £19.50. It might still seems expensive, but a little goes a long way and I have not found any cheaper products that work nearly so well on my skin. The site offers free shipping on orders over £50 and has a loyalty rewards program which is quite good. In addition, you get 4 free samples with every order, which you get to choose. This is a great way to try new products and/or get small packets of your favourites to take on weekends away or keep in your purse. They frequently send samples of new products as well.
All in all, I highly recommend DHC Extra Nighttime Moisture. It is an excellent facial moisturizer suitable for sensitive skin.
