So, I have previously reviewed Elizabeth Arden's eight hour cream and heralded it as my beauty miracle which I religiously use every night before bed. A while ago a ran out and I hate paying full price for it so tend to wait until I can get it duty free as the deals are better and you save a bit of money. I had a couple of months to wait so having read a glowing review of this product I decided to try it instead.
I can't really remember how or where I stumbled across a review for this but I do remember thinking it sounded really good. I was a little surpirsed to find out that the brand is owned and produced by none other than Alicia Douvall. Now, if you don't know who she is then your life is probably better off - ok jokes aside (beause I love the product) she is a heavily cosmeticised glamour model who has done a few reality TV shows and is mostly slated by tabloids and popular magazines. I know of her, and if you see a picture you'll probably recognise her, but I don't actually know great deal about her other than what is stated here. Her surgically enhanced appearance certainly doesn't bode well for the product and I almost let it put me off all those months ago but having heard that other people love it I was curious.
There are two sizes that can be purchased, a 15ml travel size and a 50ml standard size. Not knowing how much I would like it I opted for the 15ml hoping it would last me until my eight hour drought was over. The oil comes in a glass bottle with a squirty push down lid. The design is very simple and natural looking - browns and creamy colours. There is limited information on the bottle but that is down to the fact that the product is entirely natural and 100% pure argan oil - no horrible chemicals to worry about. Argan oil is completely natural and organic and originally comes from Morocco. Apparently the native women there have used it for centuries and swear by it as a beauty marvel, so much so it is referred to as 'liquid gold'. The appearance of the packaging is nice, I wouldn't be embarrassed to display this product on a dressing table in or in my bathroom. Due to the simple design and colour scheme it looks very expensive and definitely gives the impression that it is totally natural, and no gimmicks are needed to sell it either because the properties of the oil speak for themselves.
The oil itself is similar in smell, consistency and colour to cooking oil. I would like it to ground nut oil or something similar that it is light in colour. This doesn't sound like the nicest thing to apply to your skin and initially I was a little put off but once you've applied it any initial concerns drift away. The oil is extremely light and absorbs quickly into the skin. I was most worried about having a greasy feeling face but actually once rubbed in it begins to feels like a normal moisturiser. I tend to apply a light moisturiser over the top as I do with my eight hour cream but this is by no means needed. The amazing thing about the oil is the way it makes your skin feel. I definitely noticed a cleaner and fresher looking complexion, any dry skin was alleviated and it improved the apperance of blemishes and scars. Interestingly it can also be used as a cuticle oil, hand cream, body oil, scar treatment, for split ends and as a baby oil. I love a product that is versatile because you definitely get your moneys worth and this is no exception.
The 15ml oil will set you back £12 compared to the 50ml which is £25. This makes the 50ml bottle far better value but initially I was keen to just test it and £12 isn't a ridiculous amount of money to have spent if you find out you don't like the product. Fortunately I did and I went back to re-purchase the 50ml. In fact I like it so much I have now relegated my eight hour cream to second best. I tend to alternate between the two as much as possible because I think it is good for your skin to get a bit of variety. That said, when I use the eight hour cream now I find the effecs aren't nearly as good as the argan oil which is amazing because I always swore by eight hour cream.
The oil is available exclusively from the Douvall website. I have used this website twice, because I returned to purchase the bigger sized bottle, and I have never had any problems with the site. If my memory serves me correctly there is a delivery charge though I don't remember it being more than £3 which isn't too bad considering the product is fairly priced. The delivery was prompt and Douvall sent several emails to confirm payment and update me on the progress which I really liked. Overall I was impressed with the service, I just wish they would add a few more products to the website because I like this one so much!
My only advice is that if you do buy I would go for the 50ml bottle. This is mainly because of the value for money and also because the 15ml only lasted me about a month. I tend to use this almost every night and only a couple of squirts at a time. The 50ml is lasting me way longer than the 15ml seemed too - my only explanation might be that initially I was perhaps a little generous with it because I love using it so much. It is the kind of product you can use sparingly and reap the same benefits so don't make my mistake!
I would definitely recommend this oil, it is my new favourite beauty product.
