The Dr LeWinn’s brand takes its name from the company’s founder, a Dr LeWinn who was a Philadelphia-based plastic surgeon. After being consulted by many dermatologists, LeWinn set up his own range of anti-ageing products. No doubt if you’ve just got gullible women to spend thousands on face lifts, you can keep the tills ringing and sell them lots of over-priced skin creams too.
I’ve not had a face lift but I have got a bunch of Dr LeWinn’s products - though more by accident than design. Last January, the website Activebeauty - now rebranded as Allbeauty - had a massive cut price sale and I picked up two sets of Dr LeWinn’s products. These were Christmas gift sets that had lost their season and were offered at between 5 and 6 pounds for kits containing three products in each bag. The Dr LeWinn’s Ultra R4 restructuring cream sells at 46.00 for a 50 ml jar so my 20 ml tube would cost around 19.00.
The manufacturers claim this contains ‘patented palmitoyl tripeptide-3’ plus exotic plant extracts which together work to enhance the collagen production of the skin and keep it firm. I’m pretty sceptical about such claims - perhaps if it worked as well as Dr LeWinn claims, he wouldn’t need to do so much plastic surgery - but it is a very nice cream. If you’re feeling peckish, it also contains extracts of mushroom, pomegranate and sea fennel.
The cream dispenses from my tube as a thick, white, slightly sticky goop but it spreads well and soaks in quickly without leaving any greasiness. It smells clean and slightly fruity - not strong but not unpleasant either. Throughout the day my skin feels soft and smooth but not in any way extraordinary.
For a day cream it lacks - as far as I can see - any sunscreens - but the heaviness of the cream is such that I’d probably only use it in the winter.
I’m happy to have had the chance to try a selection of the LeWinn products but they don’t ‘move’ me to great praise or substantial thought. Some expensive products rock your world but this isn’t one of them. It’s good but not great.
