Advantages: Good value, non-greasy, good moisturiser
Disadvantages: did not reduce the effects of my eczema
I used to suffer quite badly from eczema as a child but as I reached my teenage years I seemed to grow out of it. So around a year ago I was quite surprised when I got a new outbreak of eczema on my hands. As it was not too extensive I decided to try and deal with it myself rather than bother my GP with something so trivial so I decided to purchase some E45 cream as I had always known it to have quite a good reputation and to be known for treating dry skin conditions such as eczema.
The E45 cream can be purchased in pharmacy's and even some supermarkets from the medical isle. The a 50g tube of the E45 cream is currently priced at £1.99 in Boots, larger tubs can also be purchased if you use quite a lot of this cream which works out more cost effective.
The E45 cream come in a tube with the tube contained in a cardboard box. The box and the tube are white in colour so quite clean and clinical looking and have the E45 logo on the front. It states that the cream is for dry skin conditions and is a unperfumed and non-greasy emollient cream. The box and the tube have all the information you need to know about the cream including ingredients listings, directions for use and tells you what skin conditions the cream can be used for.
There are many conditions that this cream can be used to treat including:
- Dry, itching, flaking and chapped skin
- Sunburn
- Eczema
- Dermatitis
- Ichthyosis
- Psoriasis
The cream itself comes in a tube as stated previously, the tube is made from plastic and has a plastic screw cap lid. The cream itself it very easy to squeeze from the tube and as soon as you stop squeezing the cream stops being dispensed which is great as I hate the creams that continue to dispense and makes a mess as you try to get the lid back on. The cream does not even seem to have a scent at all which I find quite good as it does not interfere with any perfumes or body lotions etc that you may choose to wear. When applying the cream I was also pleased that it absorbed quickly and that as stated on the tube it was not in any way greasy. Personally I found this cream to be a good moisturiser for my skin but for me that its where the benefits of this cream ended. It did not have any effect on my eczema at all and did not reduce the itching feeling or make it decrease. Therefore I ended visiting my GP who prescribed me with hydrocortisone cream and Aveeno cream which worked wonders. Therefore I would not purchase this cream again as it just did not really have an effect for me except for acting as a moisturiser which I prefer the Aveeno cream which does seem to keep my eczema at bay.
Summary: A plain moisturiser, did not work for me!
