A staple cream for all bathrooms if you ask me!
Member Name: MsTricia
Advantages: cheap, easily available, great moisturiser for dry skin/eczema
Disadvantages: not a long term cure for eczema/dry skin but helps
E45 is a product that can be used on literally all skin types and for me it does an amazing job! When I was younger, I used to suffer on and off from eczema, generally in creases of my body like elbows, back of the legs and creases of my arm. Whilst my skin is now a million times better it can still flare up if I get particularly stressed, so with starting a new job recently it took some adjusting with sleep patterns, and childcare etc so I did have this frequent itch on my neck which influenced me to pop out and buy some E45 lotion to top up my stash and keep in my cupboards just in case!
E45 lotion is not specifically for the treatment of eczema but is an excellent product for combating eczema, dermatitis and dry skin in general. It can be used for people of all ages, and I find the lotion is a bit more versatile in terms of application on the body than the thick, standard tub version of the cream. The moisturiser is advertised "for use all over the body and helps keep your skin feeling soft, supple and hydrated." I have to say, I do find it really does leave my skin well nourished, especially on patches of skin which may be patchy or slightly irritable. It compliments my skin in a neutral way as it replenishes lost water and leaves my skin well hydrated, although I must say it doesn't really leave my skin amazingly soft in anyway! Not to toot my own horn, but I have been told I have soft skin anyway, and I don't really find E45 lotion particularly enhances this lol.
E45 lotion is perfume-free, so it is ideal if you have sensitive skin. Like I have mentioned, whilst my skin is not specifically sensitive, it has little outbursts depending on (most probably my hormones lol) a lot of varying factors, and E45 is the main lotion I can rely on to serve me everytime and I will not suffer and adverse effects. Whilst I usually opt to use it when my skin is feeling a bit dry and itchy, it should be noted that E45 is different as it is an emollient to hydrate the skin whereas a steroid cream acts to reduce inflammation and clear flare-ups of eczema. In a nutshell, this doesn't get rid of any eczema I may have, but more aids my skin in repairing itself.
The consistency of E45 lotion is a reasonably thick, white lotion, with no precise smell which is good as it doesn't linger or leave me smelling unpleasant. Although it is quite a heavy lotion, and takes a lot of rubbing in, it is not greasy or sticky and it works well to soothe my dry skin and really does make me want to itch less! Using E45 lotion is great for enduring the day as it helps to moisturise my skin for hours on end and I know I can go about my day without having to do constant applications. I think E45 lotion, is an amazing over the counter option for those with dry skin, although it should be noted there are sometimes brand-less aqueous creams which can be marginally cheaper and do the same job, E45 is really more the brand than a specific product but nevertheless it is a moisturiser I definitely could not live without!
I bought this bottle of E45 lotion in my chemist by chance when I was picking up a prescription for my daughter's chicken pox a few week ago and a 200ml bottle costs about £3 which I think is a fair price. I would definitely recommend this lotion to any sufferers of particularly dry skin or mild eczema as this is a good relief and fantastic moisturiser but for long term treatment, definitely see a doctor for a prescribed treatment :)
Summary: brilliant lotion, helps me everytime!
