Good product I will buy again as it does what is claims too

Elemis pro-radiance illuminating flash balm. I decided to buy this after I tried a sample version and wanted to see how I faired with it for a bit longer.

      ***THE PACKAGE***

The Elemis flash balm moisturizer comes in somewhat of an under stated package I would say. It is an all white tube that stands on a screw top lid. It has grey writing on it and it is neat, efficient and does the job intended, but I have to say if on a shelf it would not really stand out. To be fair however if you want Elemis you go to their counter so are specifically looking for their products or browsing the makeup counters.
On the front simply says the name Elemis and that it is a pro-radiance illuminating flash balm and that it is anti-aging.
On the back they giver you there motto “defined by nature led by science” and a little information of how the balm works and should be applied.

Under that is a full list of ingredients, which is as follows: -

Aqua/Water/Eau, Octyldodecanol, Propylene Glycol, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Starch, Glycerin, Polysorbate 60, Sorbitan Stearate, Mica, Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Phenoxyethanol, Carbomer, Bisabolol, Pullulan, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Polyacrylamide, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Fragrance (Parfum), Methylpropanediol, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Laureth-7, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Lecithin, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vitamin C), Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Moringa Pterygosperma Seed Extract, Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin) Oil, Dipropylene Glycol, Sodium Hydroxide, Disodium Phosphate, Litsea Cubeba Fruit Oil, Caramel, Orchis Mascula (Orchid) Extract, Alcohol, Xanthan Gum, Citric Acid, Morinda Citrifolia (Noni) Fruit Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, Bixa Orellana Seed Extract, Potassium Hydroxide, Potassium Sorbate, Benzoic Acid, Euterpe Oleracea (Acai) Fruit Extract, Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Oil, Dehydroacetic Acid, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sorbic Acid, Polyaminopropyl Biguanide, Salvia Sclarea (Clary Sage) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Flower Oil, Limonene, Linalool, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Citral, Benzyl Salicylate, Geraniol.

What I do like is that the product is not tested on animals and is British made.

£35 for 50mls it is not a cheap product and it does only last for 6 months once opening.

      ***THE PRODUCT ITSELF***

      THE SMELL

It is another one of the creams that I find has a peculiar smell. Kind of glueish and I still don’t know what it is. It is not as strong as some so I am not put off, but I do find it odd that with all the science that they could make it smell slightly better.

      THE COLOUR AND CONSISTANCY

The colour is an off white, can’t really say anymore!

The cream is thick and stays in place once squeezed from the tube, it won’t run away from you. I like this fact as I feel like I don’t waste any of the product and can exact out the amount I require a lot easier.

When you look at the cream you can see a slight sheen to it that I assume is the illuminating part.

      APPLICATION

The cream is designed to be used as a day moisturizer. But they say it can also be used as a primer over you regular moisturizer, or a radiance booster.

I personally feel if you are going to by a moisturizer that has a primer and radiance boost effect, why but other products to do the same thing? Baffles me. I do use a primer over it sometimes but that is one that has colour to it like a foundation.

Anyhow back to the product application. It smoothes in very easily to the skin and absorbs without an oily residue. The illuminating effect is subtle but after a few days worth of use I can certainly see the advantage, especially in the autumn weather. My skin gets a fair amount of abuse from air con at work to wind and rain when walking the dogs and I do feel this has helped give me a more consistent look and feel to my skin.
The tightening effect is about right not so tight you feel like you have been stretched but I firmness to boost my feelings and the onset of loss of elasticity!

It is an anti-aging cream and so I am hopeful that this will be ongoing with the cream. Fine lines are slightly improving with use as the tightening and plumping effects of the cream take hold.

      REMOVAL

Easy, just use a face wash or cleanser as with any other face product.

      ***OVERALL***

I am very impressed with this cream and would purchase it again.

      Elemis illuminating flash balm

      WHAT IS IT?

This is balm that is made by Elemis. It is anti ageing and can be used as a light moisturiser or as a primer for your make up if you need to use a heavier moisturiser under it.

      HOW DO YOU USE IT?

You apply a small amount of balm to your skin and rub it in lightly. It sinks in very fast and has got a pleasing texture even though it is alot thicker than most of the moisturisers I use because it is balm and not cream.

      WHAT I THINK

I have used this Illuminating Flash balm for a long time and I am very happy with it. I have not got dry skin and it is enough moisturising for me to use without anything else, I use serum also but that is so I can get other benefits.

It makes my skin look very healthy and it glows with health when I use this and that effect happens very fast in minutes after I have applied it. The glow lasts even when I apply make up over the top and people have said that I look well and healthy when I have used this.

I like the smooth feeling it gives my skin and when I apply my make up over the top it feels like my foundation is being applied a lot more even, I can apply my make up straight after the balm because it dries so fast.

Sometimes if my skin is dry I have to use another moisturiser but most days I use the Flash balm over the top unless I am using another product to try it out, I return always to this Elemis product and I think it works alot better than some of their produce because I do not think Elemis is always worth the cost.

      ANYTHING ELSE

A tube that has got 50ml of Flash balm in it costs £32 and I am happy to pay that for how good it makes my skin look. It lasts for a very long time because you have only to use a small amount for every time you apply it, I am using a tube that is 15ml only now because I had it free in a gift set and that has lasted for one month so a 50ml bottle lasts for alot longer than you think it will.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Right for some people but not for me

If I buy premium skincare, I tend to buy sets to make it more cost effective. Buying a premium body lotion, eye serum, things like that on their own can be very expensive. Occasionally, I buy afew of these sets from QVC from brands such as Decleor and Elemis, as these are good quality brands that tend to deliver in results and experience. And through QVC, can be priced well and if for any reason I don't feel the products are good enough, I send them back within 30 days. I bought this product in a kit sometime this year from QVC, but the product on its own is sold for £32.00 for a 50ml tube, from places such as QVC, timet spa.

      Elemis

In a nutshell, a British company who have a extensive range of products for the face and body. They use a mix of the latest technology and plant/mineral extracts, to create luxury spar like products that can be bought and used at home, or used in numerous salons, spars, cruise ships around the world.

      How is this packaged?

It comes in a 50ml sized plastic tube, white in colour with a silver screw top lid. The shape is quite flat but the tube can just about stand upright. The front has the word 'Elemis ' near the top and the product name underneath which is ' Pro radiance Illuminating Flash Balm '. At the bottom it mentions the words ' anti ageing ', which tells you the product line it comes from.

On the back it tells you what the product is and what it's supposed to do, how to apply. It doesn't mention ingredients but it does highlight some ingredients it doesn't contain, such as mineral oils, parabens etc. Product once opened has a 6 month shelf life.

      Ingredients

Aqua/Water/Eau, Octyldodecanol, Propylene Glycol, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Starch, Glycerin, Polysorbate 60, Sorbitan Stearate, Mica, Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Phenoxyethanol, Carbomer, Bisabolol, Pullulan, Caprylhydroxamic Acid, Polyacrylamide, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Fragrance (Parfum), Methylpropanediol, C13-14 Isoparaffin, Laureth-7, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Lecithin, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vitamin C), Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Moringa Pterygosperma Seed Extract, Citrus Nobilis (Mandarin) Oil, Dipropylene Glycol, Sodium Hydroxide, Disodium Phosphate, Litsea Cubeba Fruit Oil, Caramel, Orchis Mascula (Orchid) Extract, Alcohol, Xanthan Gum, Citric Acid, Morinda Citrifolia (Noni) Fruit Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, Bixa Orellana Seed Extract, Potassium Hydroxide, Potassium Sorbate, Benzoic Acid, Euterpe Oleracea (Acai) Fruit Extract, Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Oil, Dehydroacetic Acid, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sorbic Acid, Polyaminopropyl Biguanide, Salvia Sclarea (Clary Sage) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Flower Oil, Limonene, Linalool, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Citral, Benzyl Salicylate, Geraniol.

      What it doesn't contain

Parabens, SLS, SLES, DEA, Mineral Oils, Artificial Colours and Silicones.

What does this product supposed to do?

Helps to smooth the appearance of lines and wrinkles, brightens and evens the skin tone, provides a natural luminosity to the skin and provides moisture to the skin.

      How to use

      There's afew different ways:

      1. After skin has been cleansed use as a normal moisturiser on the face.

      2. Can be placed over any branded or non branded moisturiser to create a booster for the skin or facial primer ready for make up.

      3. Can be mixed into foundation to provide anti ageing benefits.

      How do I use this?

I've used this after cleansing, straight away. I've also used it on top of another moisturiser and I've used it on top of my Decleor Neroli Oil ( which is my preferred routine as I find it the most effective ).

      How do I find this?

Opening the tube was easy enough. The small hole that the product comes out of is covered in a foil layer so needs to be pulled off. The texture of the product is what you would expect from a moisturiser-fluid, slightly lotion like but not too runny. The colour is very creamy, more towards the beige colour rather than white as if its been tinted some way. Despite not wearing make up/foundation, that type of thing, it reminded me very much of something of that nature because of the colour, so this did make me wonder if this would change the colour of my face after application.

As I do with all products, once I placed this in my hands I smelt it. The fragrance was very strong, flowery but not sweet. Quite plant like and a touch sharp which I do not like at all! Not subtle and not easy on my nose.

Placing this on my skin was quite easy. It sunk in easily and quickly, and left my skin feeling quite smooth. Look wise, my face did have a bloom to it, but I felt it was very close to appearing a tad shiny. Whether this was down to using an oil underneath before this application I'm not sure. But for me this look wasn't off putting, and this look didn't last too long, maybe around 30 minutes-1 hour. After that my skin looked much more matt, but not dry.

I did feel for me although I liked the texture of this product in general and on my face, it wasn't rich enough. I felt as though my skin could have done with more moisture to make it feel more supple and less rigid when I moved my face.

Overall, my face felt and looked no worse than what it did previous to using this product, but I felt as a stand alone moisturiser this wouldn't cut it, but layering with other things such as an oil or traditional balm, then this product would be a booster.

      Who is this good for?

Someone who likes light textures in regards to a moisturiser, and a make up wearer, as I can understand how this would prep the skin ready for colour application. Also, somebody who likes and enjoys layering of products, but may hate the consistency of an oil or traditional balm.

Who is this not good for?

Not really needed for younger skin e.g teenagers, early 20's. It's an expensive product on its own and for skin that doesn't really have any issues and generally looks quite youthful naturally, there would be much cheaper alternatives to use and I doubt the formulation needed would have to be so complex. But back tracking on that, the texture of this for younger skin is perfect due to it being quite light and not thick.

Not a good one for someone who like me likes rich textures or has normal to dry skin, and are looking for one hard working product. To be fair, it does state learly this can be used as a light daily moisturiser, so if that's not what you like or your skin needs more, don't buy it!

Anyone who isn't keen on fragrance in their moisturisers. Personally, I like a subtle and refreshing scent to a face cream. A lot of them are plant based and have some form of floral notes to them. But I don't expect the smell to be overpowering. The smell of this in regards to strength I would expect from a body product, not something sitting on my face. This would've been a huge pet hate of mine if I was using this when I was pregnant with my son, as certain smells gave me headaches and made me sick.

Would I buy this on it's own? No. Despite the fact I normally love Elemis products, this doesn't quite delivery for me. The smell is completely off putting and the fact it lingers doesn't go down well with my nose. The formulation isn't rich enough for me so I couldn't use it on its own, and I don't feel that the ' illuminating ' effect is visible enough to wow or impress me. On a more positive note, it's nicely packaged, can be used in different ways and provides a small improvement to the look and feel of the skin.

To be honest, when I heard the product name I thought it would be a mixture between a moisturiser and a balm, so I expected something richer, creamier, more indulgent and spar like. This wasn't.

      Not for me.
