This is a review of the Espa Lift & Firm Moisturiser which I received in the beauty advent calendar I bought at Christmas time. I had never heard of the brand prior to this but could see by the packaging that it was a premium item as were most of the contents of the advent. I learnt that this brand is sold online and in select store and stocked in exceptional hotel spas worldwide via the espaonline website. A spa product is usually good quality as they will use it in treatments and whilst I am not a fan of the beauty parlour I do like to give myself regular spa at home treatments!
What is it?
A potent face cream to help firm skin while it diminishes fine lines and wrinkles. Sea Amber stimulates collagen and elastin to help lift, firm and strengthen skin's structure, Anise Extract acts to minimize fine lines and wrinkles, while antioxidant-rich Larch boosts cell regeneration for younger-looking skin that's soft, supple and comforted.
This moisturiser is a light yellow in colour and really light so that it sinks in to the skin almost instantly. It does have a really intense 'plant' or earthy smell to me which I am not very keen on. Results wise though it has been really nicely moisturising and a cream I have mainly used at night time.
Performance and contents
I have woken up to nice feeling skin which doesn't really need any further moisturising in the morning which is great as I can skip that step (usually just a little cleanser around the eye area to remove any persistent bits of make up) and move straight on to foundation or minerals, whichever I am using that day. I think long term this gives great results for skin tone and this is down to the contents which include sea amber which is a catalyst for collagen and elastin production (I didn't know that!). The other ingredients are black oat and anti oxidant larch to smooth out the fine line and encourage new cell production to promote fresher looking skin. Finally included is Anise ('nature's botox) which relaxes muscles and minimises expression lines.
A 25ml bottle is £38, which is a price I would expect for a spa brand.
For me, this was a nice moisturiser but I just can't get past that earthy smell, which is not pleasant at all. The contents never fail to fascinate me although they seem to have used quite a few of nature's natural skin beneficial products in here. I think it works well in terms of the lift and firm promise but it is quite a premium price tag (as are other products in the Espa range) and I won't be purchasing any of this in the future as I don't think it's worth that price and the smell does not tick any boxes for me.
