I've bought this in a duty free between a connecting flight from one Caribbean island to another one at a time when my skin was really feeling the effects of excessive sun exposure.
I must say that I actually bought 3 cosmetic products from the Estee Lauder range so some of the positive effects I've experienced are probably due to a combined action.
The serum has almost a liquid texture, very easily absorbed and with no silicon feeling to it ( unlike the other two Estee Lauder products I bought), in fact because it was so easily absorbed I've been very generous in the application and repeated twice each evening.
After more or less the first week of use I started seeing noticeable results that have increased with time.
Changes have been mainly in quality of skin texture and completion, my skin felt smoother with no dry patches and looked more radiant.
I'm sorry to say that there was no difference in wrinkle size ( either depth or length) and this is manly the reason why I stopped using it and switched to another product.
On their website Estee Lauder claims clinical tests that have proven significant reduction in wrinkles however that is not my case.
I will definitely buy it again and use it during periods when my skin feels under stress and is probably a great product for who only wants to prevent wrinkles however not enough effective to address deep wrinkles.
Availability: In most of the UK department stores, mid and large size Boots stores, online from most Etailers including the Estee Lauder official website
Price: £44 for 30ml
It has to be admitted that this is a really expensive product. I received mine as a Christmas present but to buy it will set you back £37.64 at perfumeclub.co.uk or £39.60 for a 30ml bottle at your local John Lewis.
It is also available at the Estee Lauder counters at the other department stores, but at even more expensive prices. Though the unit price can usually be taken down considerably by taking advantage of the deals which give you some very desirable gifts with the purchase of one or more full priced products such as this one.
But why spend such a lot of money - even if you can make it better value and get some great stocking fillers as gifts with purchase - I hear you think.
Because you apply it literally by the drop and use four or five drops each morning and night this purchase lasts and lasts. It also works incredibly well. This product has won awards for how effective it is and you can tell how effective it is from how it makes your skin feel and look.
The bottle comes with a dropper which allows you to put a droplet of the serum on your fingertip and massage over your face and neck. It instructs that you use all five fingertips but I have long nails on all but my contact lens finger and thumb which could catch my delicate skin so I use one finger at a time and get much the same results.
It is titled as Night Repair but you can apply this product after cleansing in the morning under foundation and at night after cleansing under night cream or just on its own at night, especially for younger users.
What it does to the skin is make it feel smoother and softer and look healthier. It also helps with fine lines and hydrates the skin. It does this through containing hyaluronic acid which is the active ingredient in many anti-aging products and some cheaper ones but I use this one because I know it works and does not hurt my skin.
I have sensitive skin which is also prone to eczema flare-ups and can use this serum without irritation and get the results I cannot from other anti-aging products. It says it has been tested by dermatologists and my skin agrees with their verdict - which it does not always.
It has also been tested by opthamologists and my sensitive eyes are in solidarity with my skin on this. I have used it around the eye area with good results and had no problems. The non-irritating nature of the formula is helped by the fact that it is fragrance free.
Some anti-aging products can cause spot breakout - which is just not fair. I am prone to this - which is totally unfair as I am in my mid-forties and had hoped to be zit free by now. This product has not caused breakouts for me and does claim to be non-acnegenic.
This is a pricey product but it is a good one, especially for those of us with finicky and sensitive skin.
This is a difficult one to rate as on the one hand it is really a lovely product and does leave your skin feeling great. However on the other hand it is so expensive it is hard to say it is really worth the money, in my opinion it would have to be AMAZING to be worth the money and its good but not life changing!
It smells fantastic, and I absolutely love the packaging if feels very luxurious. The dropper is a fantastic idea as you can be more sparing with the amount you use. It also leaves your skin feeling great.
It has become an iconic product so it is a good one for Hubby to remember for Christmas and birthdays if you do fall in love with it and as you only need a small amount it will last.
I think for me personally, because of the price I would not buy this for myself anytime soon.
I am a big fan of Estee Lauder and this product is certainly not a disappointment. If you can afford it treat yourself and I am sure you will fall in love. But don't expect to wake up looking like Kate Moss even at this price they can't promise that!
I first tried this night repair serum when Estee Lauder were offering free samples and I was so impressed that I just had to buy some. Unfortunately it doesn't come cheap, at £44 for 30 ml direct from the Estee Lauder website, but for me it has been worth every penny. I have mature skin and this is a rich anti aging product so I'm not sure it would be right for everyone but Estee Lauder are quite generous with their samples so if you have a chance to try it then I would recommend you do. The product comes in a smart bottle with a dropper so you can measure out just a few drops. This actually helps make the product last a long time as you don't use too much. They recommend you use it every night on clean skin and they suggest a rather complicated method of application - apply five drops one on each fingertip, touch fingertips of both hands together and massage over face and neck starting at the centre outward. Personally I find that a bit fiddly so I put a few drops into the palm of one hand and when it has warmed to body temperature simply smooth it on my face and neck with the fingertips of my other hand. It does say to follow it with your usual night moisturiser but I don't find that necessary. For me the serum is rich enough alone, although if I want to give my skin a special treat I will add Estee Lauder's Time Zone night cream - from another sample pot! The serum is fragrance free with just a slight natural smell and the texture is silky smooth so that it sinks into the skin really quickly. For me it has the advantage of not feeling greasy like using a cream or oil at night. It's hard to say if it has visibly reduced the signs of ageing - there are so many of them - but my skin definitely looks better when I use it. The serum contains hyaluronic acid, which is said to be one of the most powerful and hydrating ingredients on the market. I can't claim to know much about the science behind it but I do know that in the morning the lines on my face are less obvious and my skin looks well rested. With continued usage it seems to have evened out my skin tone and dark marks have faded. It also makes my skin feel soft and plumped up and looking as good first thing in the morning as its going to. All this makes me feel good and so it's definitely one of my favourite products.
I am new to using anti aging products of any kind, I used this product recently for the first time and did not notice any difference at all, I then acquired a mark in my face which I wanted to disappear quite fast I used the cream (in fact, it's more like a serum) exactly as directed woke up the next morning my face appeared generally brighter and firmer and generally more radiant! The mark was also dramatically reduced! My skin on my face generally felt smoother and deffinatly felt firmer, I didn't however use the product under my eyes I used a seperate eye cream for that but I do not believe that there would be any harm using a small amount under the eyes if you were not able to purchase or had finished our usual eye cream, the serum is very light and should be distribute evenly across the face gently. You can also use it on your neck I would perhaps use something different for the neck area that maybe is of a thicker
The serum is extremely silky.
The product did not break out my skin with any additional spots, marks or blemishes the next morning.
I would also be temptedto say the serum / cream almost reduced the look of redness around my nose / cheek area nothing dramatic or permanent just made the skin tone look a Little bit more even.
I don't know if I would be willing to use this product every day because of the price tag, maybe more of a once a week product as not to waste it.
At the top of the review you may see I mentioned I am new to all of these anti aging products, I am 28 and have not felt the need to use anti aging products as yet, but they do say it's never to early to help reduce the signs of wrinkles before they appear which is what I am aiming to do!
If you have spot prone skin I would perhaps be inclined to do a test before leaving the product on overnight.
Before using the product I throughly washed and cleansed my face firstly by using a facial scrub to get any make up away from my skin the removed my eye make up and cleansed my face also using a muslin cloth so that my skin was absolutely clear so to get the maximum benefit from this product which u would deffinatly advise. I would recommend using a scrub first prior to cleansing.
The serum /cream does not really smell of anything at all but very pleasant when applying it - even when and straight after applying I was noticing differences in my skin appearance it just looked cleansed perfectly.
I am Deffinatly going to be repurchasing at the lonely on the estee Lauder website you can get two free samples withyout purchase and free delivery which is deffinatly worth it! The formula as I say is more serum like and is quite cold to the touch even though it has been stored at room tempreture, fantastic product genuinelly amazed by the product and feel the need to repurchase the item again as I currently only have the smaller version. To sumarise this for me is a must have item that is wonderfully luxurious I would say it is 100 percent worth he investment.
The packaging is gorgeous and the whole look and feel of the product just looks very high end.
Here are some additional things I wanted to mention which you may or may not find helps your decision when purchasing the product
It is on the Estée Lauder website today for £41 for a 30ml bottle.
I initially bought a bottle of this as there was an in store promotion if you bought 2 Estee Lauder products and I happened to be buying my usual foundation. The lady in the store was very excitable when explaning the benefits to me and outlined the fact that this product works from the inside out compared to the range of moisturisers (Daywear Plus etc) that work on hydrating the outer layer of the skin only. I have to say I've been impressed. I wouldn't buy this for the smell as it is slightly medicinal, though not unpleasant. But the pipette in the lid is great for keeping the bottle nice and neat with none of the usual gunk you get with a squeezy tube.
In terms of results I am always slightly sceptical when it comes to expensive products like this but the biggest endorsement I can give is purchasing the product again and this one is now a fixture on my shopping list. The results aren't as dramatic as the blurb promises but I have noticed smoother clearer skin and even a slight softening of my frown lines. Overall a thumbs up.
I was given a weeks worth of this product as sample to try but it was a very generous amount so using their own recommendations (4-5 drops) I was able to make this last nearly a fortnight.
I found the product to be easy to use, you simply apply the serum all over your face, neck and decolletage and then moisturise over the top of that.
I found it to sink in well and to feel nice on the skin - no issues of stickiness and I didn't react to it at all.
I was hoping to feel that my skin looked better - I am now in my mid-30's and live in an urban, polluted area so feel that my skin could do with a helping hand.
I didn't see any improvements myself and certainly received no compliments on my skin.
In fact I came up with a few spots - however I couldn't be sure that this was attributable to the serum, it did shake my faith in using it!
Perhaps I didn't use it long enough and several months are required to see the difference.
I generally like Estee Lauder products and feel they are of good quality so was somewhat surprised by this one.
I was quite excited to try this product, having read numerous reviews about its wonderful effects and was quite willing to believe that my skin would feel and look so much younger almost immediately. The packaging encouraged me in this view - surely anything that needs to be applied by a pipette a few drops at a time must be so concentrated that it works miracles?
Unfortunately, for me the results have not lived up to expectations. For a start the serum does not have an overly pleasant smell - I know that this is a product designed to do a specific job so you shouldn't need it to smell nice if it works, but for me having a nice smell is all part of the enjoyment of using a beauty product.
Next irritation is that I find it actually quite a sticky serum to apply, which seems to just sit on the skin rather than soaking into it. Maybe this is all part of how it is supposed to work, but it feels a bit odd to me. You then need to use your usual moisturiser on top so your skin does feel more like normal when you have moisturised, but can't say it is linked to the use of the serum.
Finally, and most important annoyance is that I can't tell if it has made a difference to my skin or not. I would certainly hope so given that costs best part of £50, but can't say that I have seen any results. The marketing blurb does say that the serum helps protect your skin for the future, so maybe I will see the benefits in 10 years time, but who knows?
I am aware though that I am in the minority with this view, and this product has won many rewards (Cosmo, InStyle, She etc) but still thought it was worth writing this review so that you can get an alternative view on what is a very expensive product before you spend out.
Will I be using this product again? Well, I am certainly going to be finishing the bottle - at £50 it is too expensive not to use and lasts for ages (I have been using it a couple of months and the bottle is huge and still going strong). Will I be buying it again? As you can probably guess, no - I will be sticking with using a night cream without the serum.
It may be of course that as soon as I stop using the serum I will suddently age drastically, at which point I will have to eat my words and rush back to the shops for a replacement bottle (and I will of course be updating my review to say so) - I wouldn't hold your breath though...
This is another of my favourite Estee Lauder products. I use this every night before applying my moisturiser and find it has really made a big difference to the appearance of my skin. I have been using this product for about eighteen months, it is quite expensive but you only need to use a few drops so even the small bottle lasts a few months, I think it is very good value for money. Since using the product I have noticed a significant difference in the appearance of my skin, my skin is more radiant, less tired and feels much softer. As a result I now need to use less foundation, so I am really pleased with the results of this product. I would happily recommend this to anyone, as Estee Lauder products do tend to be expensive it is definitely worth visiting an Estee Lauder counter to get advice on the products best for your skin type but I think that this would be suitable for most skin types.
For anyone who hasn't read my Estee Lauder pore minimising refinishing serum review I should probably explain how I ended up with a bottle of £47.00 face serum. I had been persuaded to try the above serum to deal with dry skin on my face and when I returned it as it made my dry skin worse instead of getting my £32.00 returned I got talked into spending another £15.00 to upgrade to the Advanced Night Repair Protective Recovery Complex.
I could have traded my refinishing serum for the 30ml night repair at £34.00 but decided to buy the 50ml size as the assistant mentioned there was a special offer on this of a 5ml pot of the night repair eye cream worth £11 inside.
After a month or so of use I feel its time to decide if its worth such a monstrous amount of money.
- - What does it claim to do - -
The product claims to help your skin repair UV and environmental damage and also protects from the damage in the first instance. The assistant assured me that it would increase the moisturising capabilities of any moisturiser and would completely rebalance my dry skin.
- - Awards - -
When I checked online I began to think I might not have been as insane as I first thought at spending this amount of money. These are only a few of the awards which the product has acheived
Cosmopolitan Beauty Awards 2007 for the Best Age-Defying Serum
Red Magazine Beauty Awards 2007 for the Best Night Product
Harper's Bazaar 50 Best Beauty Buys 2006 for Anti-Ageing Skin Saver.
- - How does it look - -
The serum comes in a dark brown glass bottle which gives the impression that there is something expensive and voltatile in it which can be affected by light\sun and must be treated with care. The lid comes off to reveal a dropper.
- - How to use it - -
It is recommended that you apply this serum below your moisturizer morning and evening. To activate simply squeeze the little bulb and then drip around four drops onto your hands then massage across the face. I find four drops covers my whole face easily but for those with less dry skins I imagine 2 to 3 drops would be plenty. The thin white\yellowey oil\gel type liquid spreads easily across the face and you don't feel any drag with it at all.
The liquid sank in really quickly and I was able to add my normal moisturiser on top almost immediately. The face does feel a little sticky but has a glow and you can actually see the moisture sitting on the skin.
There was not a sweet flowery girly smell from it, in fact it was more like an alcohol wipe smell which was a little strange but it makes me hopeful that there are some strong medicinal ingredients in there. The smell fades within seconds.
- - How long will it last - -
It has a shelf life of 24 months once opened, and as I have been using it around a month now and have used a tenth of the bottle at most I believe it will last for around 10 - 12 months and still be well within its use by date when I have finished it.
- - Results - -
I noticed my foundation was going on much more easily, no caking was evident and I still had some on when I arrived home whereas previously it would have completely disappeared. I felt my skin had a little bit of a glow about it and definitely looked better either with or without make-up on.
- - Enough already what about the wrinkles - -
Sorry to report there has been no noticeable reduction in my wrinkles, no sudden tightening, taughtening etc. of any part of my face and none of the transformation into a love goddess which I was quite expecting for this kind of money.
I asked my eldest son if I looked any less wrinkly - reply "I can't remember what you looked like before"
I asked my sis in law if I looked any less wrinkly - reply "um err, um err, your cheeks have a lovely glow"
I asked my niece if I looked any less wrinkly - reply "Not £47.00 worth you sucker".
So the general consensus is absolutely not.
- - Will I buy it again - -
If this product does last 10 - 12 months as it looks like it might do - that works out at less than £5.00 per month and while I am ready to admit it isn't going to turn me into a fairytale princess it's the best moisturiser I have ever used. Its making my foundation look better and last longer and for that even without any ironing out capabilities I'm willing to pay £5 a month so yes until I find a better serum I will buy this again.
- - Recommendation - -
For anyone with dry or dehydrated skin this is an excellent product which really does work and isn't as expensive as you may think at first.
For those wanting to attack wrinkles I would recommend trying one of the protect and perfect range of serums first at a third the price on offer in Boots and I have seen the age rewind one work amazingly well on my sis in law. Unfortunately for me this whole range brings me out in spots.
I guess I'm still on the look-out for the perfect wrinkle remover but I have found my perfect moisturizing serum.
Having used a new toner that did not agree with my skin I felt unhappy with my red, dry, blotchy appearance. A sales assistant in Japan recommended this product to me, explaining that the redness was due to my skin lacking hydration. I didn't expect miracles, but overnight my complexion dramatically improved. The redness had not disppeared completely but there was a marked improvement and my skin looked much fresher. I used the product religiously for the next few days both morning and night and within three days my skin felt softer and looked much clearer.
I cannot speak for everyone but this product has definitely worked for me :-)
The Advanced Night Repair is a serum used under moisturiser. It claims to protect the skin during the day against environmental damage by neutralizing skin-damaging free radicals generated by UV light, pollutants and oxidants before they can damage skin. At night, it claims to repair damage to skin and provide advanced levels of hydration to the skin to boost the effectiveness of night creams/moisturisers. The serum comes in either a 30 ml or 50 ml dark brown bottle, and is dispensed via a glass dropper with a rubber top. The dropper is of really good quality and is shaped such that you can suck out the serum even if there is little left in the bottle. To apply, you pick up a bit of the product using the dropper, and release about 4-5 drops onto your palm, then you massage the serum with your fingers onto your face and neck, including the eye area if you wish. The serum is clear, yellowish brown and moderately thick, about the same viscosity as cooking oil. It feels rich and smooth on your fingers. When applied onto the face, it gives a very hydrating feeling. It is very runny when it first makes contact with the skin, but after massaging the product for a few seconds into your skin, the serum sinks into the skin effortlessly so there is no excess product dripping down the face, even if you have applied more than the recommended 4-5 drops. After application, the skin feels sticky but extremely hydrated with a sheen of moisture resting on the surface. The serum will not interfere with the functionality of your moisturiser. When you next apply your regular moisturiser over the serum, the moisturiser will perform pretty much as if used alone, with the same ease of absorbency, etc. You will also discover that you will need pretty much the same amount of moisturiser as before, so the serum won't help you reduce the usage of your moisturiser. After the entire routine of serum + moisturiser, there is no trace of the stickiness of the serum. The serum
should suit all skin types including oily skins, because the serum does not feel oily, just extremely hydrating. The serum has a very faint medicinal/chemical smell that is not overwhelming. As for results, I have to say that the serum works as far as providing hydration is concerned. I have been using this product twice a day for 3 months. It has hydrated my skin tremendously. I used to have normal/dry skin, but after using the serum for 3 months, my skin has become the ideal "normal" type. All the dry patches have disappeared. There is also a healthy sheen of luminosity on my face. It smoothed out my under-eye lines slightly, but it didn't eliminate the wrinkles completely (no product will). The serum is extremely expensive. It costs £43 for 50ml or £29 for 30ml. A 30 ml bottle lasts me about 2 months, using it twice a day. So the big question is, to buy or not to buy? I would have to say that the Night Repair is definitely a luxury item and not a necessity. Looking at the ingredient list, there is no miracle substance in the serum. It contains UVB sunscreen (octyl methoxycinnamate), vitamin B5 (pantethine), vitamin A (retinyl palmitate), vitamin E (tocopheryl acetate) and sodium hyaluronate. Basically, this serum is a concoction of antioxidants, sunscreen and hydrating hyaluronic acid, which supposedly can bring hydration to deeper layers of the skin. If you want environmental protection, instead of using this product, you can try using a sunscreen which provides better protection. For damage repair, a moisturiser with antioxidants may be sufficient to do the trick. As for hydration, I have to say that hyaluronic acid may not be commonly found in most budget brand moisturisers and serums, but if you spend some time searching around, you may come across another cheaper product that contains hyaluronic acid as well (if you've found one, do let me know!). Other hydrating moisturisers may also work (e.g., Loreal's Hy
drafresh worked well for me). Finally, for wrinkle smoothing, if skin is well moisturised (using whatever product), it will plump up and wrinkles will be less noticeable. The manufacturer may argue that the Night Repair has a higher dosage of the active ingredients and/or that Night Repair has a more effective delivery system. With regard to the concentration of sunscreen, I believe that Night Repair's sunscreen protection is minimal. If Night Repair provides high UV protection, then they should get the serum tested for SPF and specify the value on the bottle. Also, the sunscreen included in Night Repair does not provide any UVA protection, the primary cause of wrinkles. I also doubt the effectiveness of serum based sunscreens. Are they thick enough for adequate protection? As for antioxidants, as concentrations are not labelled on most skin care products, I can't really comment on the relative concentrations of antioxidants in Night Repair vs. other antioxidant moisturisers/serums. Also, I know nothing about delivery mechanisms, so I can't comment on the technology behind Night Repair. Maybe it's the Night Repair's unique delivery system that makes all the difference. Apparently, I read from other web sites that this product has performed rather well in various trials. Other consumers argue for using the serum as sort of an "insurance policy", even though results can't be seen overnight. Personally, I think that this is exactly what the manufacturers want us to think, so that we will continue to buy the product, although we can't see any results, thinking it will pay off later on. I feel that a good sunscreen is the best insurance policy. If your skin cells are not damaged, they won't need repair. But having said all I've said, if you do have extra cash and want to feel really pampered, or if you do not mind buying an extra optional insurance policy on top of the best insurance policy (sunscreen) with
no guaranteed results except hydration, then go for it! You won't be alone, this Night Repair has attracted quite a large cult following! I know people with testimonies who swear by it. :) (Ingredients: water (aqua purificata) purified, polysaccharides/glycoprotein, methyl gluceth-20, peg-75, butylene glycol, dimethicone copolyol, octyl methoxycinnamate, pantethine, sodium hyaluronate, kola (cola acuminata) extract, hydrogenated lecithin, glycereth-26, matricaria (anthemis nobilis), retinyl palmitate, tocopheryl acetate, bisabolol, oleth-3, oleth-5, squalane, oleth-3 phosphate, choleth-24, cetheth-25, xanthan gum, allatoin, tea-carbomer, trisodium edta, bht, benzyl alcohol, phenoxyethanol, methylparaben, butylparaben, yellow no. 5 (CI 19140), red no. 4 (CI 14700), green no. 5 (CI 61570)).
Applied with an eyedropper, Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair has some immediate results, but I'm not sure about overnight or long-term results. I think this product works best when applied to a clean face -I use it after evening showers or baths, before bedtime. The directions says to apply it AM and PM daily, so why is it only a "Night Repair" product, I wonder? Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair's liquid formulation may be applied in very small amounts with the eyedropper to most critical areas of the face. I'm not *too* worried about wrinkles at my age yet, but as a good measure, I apply it to smile lines and other areas around the mouth, the forehead, and the undereye / tops of cheeks. I really don't like how it feels as it is applied (too slimy wet), but I LOVE how it feels once it's dry. When it's dry, it feels very SMOOTH and SILKY to the touch!! I love this immediately silkier feeling as I get into bed. (Warning--I don't imagine this product is very kissable. In fact, this product does not have a pleasing scent). When I wake up, I look in the mirror to see if there are any visible changes, but I don't see anything dramatic overnight. I haven't noticed anything over an extended period of time, either. I will continue to use this product, but I don't think I'll be repurchasing it--not because it's not a good product, but I don't think it's for me. I prefer using creams and lotion products rather than liquid products, and I would prefer something that had a more pleasing, perhaps botanical, scent. It's also not in the price range for the results I'm seeking. I do recommend the product for others, however, who want to feel younger and sleeker right away.
This is yet another Estee Lauder product, which I am more than happy to recommend. There are two types of product in this range, both doing the same thing, one being with extra whitening recovery complex. This is for those who are concerned with maintaining the fairness of the skin and preventing discoloration or pigmentation. ie more suited for darker skins or those with freckles. I have tried both and found them to be good although the effects can only be seen after long term use and not immediately unlike some of their other products. I think it works to repair damaged cells and protect new ones that are formed while you sleep. It is non oily and quite light in a lotion form and only a little is needed as it is quite concentrated, so it is still worth the price as you end up using it over a long period of time. Suitable for all skin types I would say and can be used together with the other moisturisers and cremes. Oh and you can use it day time too, although it says "Night". Thanks so much for reading and rating this op
