Eucerin dry skin face cream (5% urea formula)

This face cream is called the dry skin relief cream on dooyoo and on the boots website but on the bottle it says 'dry skin replenishing face cream 5% urea. I have this version (5%) and I also have the 10% urea cream too - I do prefer this cream over the more intensive one as it does not smell as much and it is thinner in consistency.

- Product description and ingredient list (from boots.com)

"Eucerin Dry Skin Relief Face Cream with 5% Urea is a gentle facial moisturiser for the daily care of dry, tight, rough and scaly skin."

"Aqua, Urea, Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone, Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate, Triisostearin, Cetyl Alcohol, Sodium Lactate, Glyceryl Stearate, Benzyl Alcohol, PEG-40 Stearate, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Methylparaben, Lactic Acid, Lanolin Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol."

- About the product

I have tried a few products from eucerin such as the 10% urea cream, the 5% night cream and this product - which along with the night cream is great. This facial moisturiser is fragrance free and it is colourant free too - so it is great for sensitive skin, which I have. This cream contains urea and lactate, natural moisturisers. I have the 50ml tube of this cream and it is a great size and it has lasted me a while as I mix it with my simple rich moisturiser. The tube container is fantastic and it has a small nozzle at the end which makes it really easy to dispense a small/controlled amount of product.

- Scent, texture and consistency

Firstly, the eucerin 10% cream (which is the same as this but it contains more urea) smells really strongly and it does not smell nice at all - although even though it was fairly strongly scented it did not irritate my skin at all! This cream however as it contains only 5% urea it does not smell horrible at all really, which is great as it makes this product nicer to use. The scent of this cream is a bit like plastic/playdoh, which isn't that nice but it is a lot better than the scent of the 10% cream. The texture of this product is basically the same as the 10% version as it has a really smooth, silky, creamy texture which makes it feel nice on the skin - especially if your skin is sensitive and or very dry. The consistency of this product, in my opinion is one of the best points about this product for me. The 10% version of this cream had an incredibly thick consistency which made it hard to massage into the skin and it made my skin feel heavy and a bit greasy but this 5% cream has a much thinner consistency in comparison to the 10% cream. Overall the scent is ok, the texture is really nice and smooth and the consistency is thick but nowhere near as heavy/thick as the 10% urea cream from eucerin.

- Using the product and results

When my eczema used to flare up and look/feel really horrible I used this cream (or the 10% version) on its own and it would work really well for my extremely dry and sensitive skin but as my eczema is about 90% gone now (thanks to a miracle non steroid cream) I can use my other moisturisers instead of incredibly heavy/thick moisturisers. So I have been using this moisturiser mixed with my Simple Rich Facial Moisturiser which I cannot recommend enough! I mix about 40% of this cream with 60% of the Simple moisturiser and it works really well for my skin as I find the simple rich moisturiser is a little bit thinner/less moisturising than I need. Mixing this cream and the Simple one is really quick and easy and it makes a gorgeous, fairly thick moisturiser for me - and I can adjust the percentage/amount of each moisturiser depending on how my skin is. For example, it my skin is feeling less dry (unusual, but it does happen occasionally) then I will use less or this cream in the mixture and if my skin is feeling drier and more sensitive then I will use about 60% of this cream in the mixture I make.

This moisturiser on its own does apply really nicely to the skin due to the smooth texture but I find that I do end up pulling my skin a little bit with this moisturiser on its own as it is fairly thick. When mixed with my Simple rich moisturiser this cream applied and massages into my skin so much better and it does not pull on my skin really. After being massage gently into the skin I then have to wait for a couple of minutes for the moisturiser to sink in before I apply my make up or if I am using this at night I will wait a little bit longer for the cream to sink in. Once applied and massaged into the skin my skin can look a little greasy but after the cream sinks in this is reduced. My skin feels like it is in a cocoon after using this moisturiser, it has been a life saver for me when my eczema was really bad as this cream really soothes my sensitive skin and it really helps with dryness and irritation!

Overall I cannot rate this product highly enough, it works well with my skin and it really makes my skin feel smooth, hydrated, soothed and it does not irritate my skin at all. When my facial eczema was really bad it felt horrible as my face felt very sore, irritated, burning/stinging most of the time and this cream really helped calm my skin and sooth my skin so much! I have been using eucerin 10% and this cream for about a year now and I cannot recommend the brand/products enough!

- Price and availability

I purchased this cream a while ago from boots and it is currently priced at £10.79, which does seem like a bit much for a moisturiser but this product is so worth the money , as for me anyway this product has really helped my skin when it has been burning/stinging/itching. There a quite a lot of moisturisers in this range such as the 10% cream which I would also recommend but I would mix the 10% cream with a thin moisturizer to make it easier to massage into the skin.

Conclusions

Positives
*Tube packaging - easy to use and hygienic
*Does not irritate my skin at all
*Very soothing on my skin and calms irritation/burning/stinging/itching really well
*Smooth texture and weak scent - also does not contain added fragrance or colourants
*Leaves my skin feeling smooth, hydrated, soothed and not tight or uncomfortable

Negatives
*Price? Although I think this product is definitely worth the money!
