Advantages: Conceals dark circles very effectively
Disadvantages: The cooling tired eyes claim is nothing more than a gimmick
It was my mum who first introduced me to this product when she bought it on promotion and thought she would buy one for me too.
I don't tend to use Garnier for skincare or otherwise so had little expectations from this, apart from perhaps thinking it was a bit gimmicky and unlikely to work.
I have been using it daily for 3 months now, so think I have given it a fair go in order to write an informed review. For reader info, the dark circles under my eyes are quite minor - I don't know how this product would be if you suffered from very dark circles.
** What does it claim to do? **
Garnier's website claims this works in two ways:
1. The cooling rollerball refreshes and hydrates tired looking eyes
2. the concealer dispensed will cover dark circles
** The product and how to use: **
Essentially this is a make up product rather than an eye cream - it's continued use isn't going to reduce fine lines or have a long term effect on dark circles, rather this is a quick fix at making your eye area look and feel better.
There are 2 shades available - fair and medium (I have a medium-dark skin tone, so the medium shade suits me perfectly).
It comes in a tube which is about the size of a mascara, and has a white plastic lid at the top. Packaging looks a bit cheap but it's inoffensive enough.
The lid is robust and hasn't split or leaked all over my make up bag which happens to me more often than it should!
When you unscrew it, there is a metal rollerball which when applied, does feel cool to your skin.
You are supposed to roll it under your eye until sufficient concealer product is dispensed, then blend very gently with your fingers until your dark circles are covered.
** My opinion: **
Starting with the negative aspects, I think that the eye cooling claim is a bit redundant and nothing more than a gimmick. If that was the reason you were buying this, then I think you would be very disappointed and would find that there are a bunch of other products on the market that would be far more effective than this. The cooling sensation you get when you apply the metal ball to your skin is very shortlived and certainly doesn't make a visual difference. I would try a cooling eye gel for instance, or even good old fashioned cucumber slices!
That said, I think this more than makes up for it when it comes to a concealer.
I have used Touche Eclat for years, believing it to be unbeatable when it comes to dark circles. I've tried other, cheaper under eye concealers but always returned to Touche Eclat, justifying the price because there was nothing else that did the job as well.
I can honestly say that after using the Garnier product I won't buy Touche Eclat again - I think the coverage is excellent with this. The amount dispensed might look a bit much but when I blend it in, it's spot on, blends fantastically and covers my dark circles very well.
Some have said that £9.99 for this is too expensive, but when you think that you can pay around £24.00 for Touche Eclat then I reckon it's a bargain.
I have used it daily for just over 3 months and it's showing no signs of running out so quite good value too.
I know I will have a battle converting Touche Eclat users but if you try it, you might be as pleasantly surprised as I was :)
Summary: Loses a star for the gimmicky claim but very impressed otherwise
