Pure Active Blackhead Clearing Scrub’s creamy double-action formula contains 2% Salicylic Acid and exfoliating micro-beads to thoroughly remove dead skin cells and effectively dislodge blackheads and impurities. Together with Herbal Repair, a natural skin-repairing ingredient, it provides concentrated anti-bacterial protection and controls spot-causing sebum production to prevent the re-appearance of pimples and marks. Dermatologically tested.
It comes in a tube with an easy to flip open with one hand only cap. Can be carried safely in your bag rest assured it will not leak all over the documents and make up you may carry
A small amount of the product is sufficient to produce enough foam. The face wash is an almost transparent gel with nice blue colored beads in it. I have used it to wash my face after a day in the outdoors and found it to effectively clean dirt and grime off my oily skin. This way it prevents a break out in comparison to let’s say Dove soap.
I have noticed that Dove soap is too creamy for my face. Given my skin type and and the exfoliation part – I didn’t see a noteworthy change in the presence or disappearance (now, forget re- appearance!!!) of dead skin cells or black heads.
And yet garnier pure exfoliating face wash contains salicylic acid – a skin exfoliate agent. From the list of ingredients I see salicylic acid is perhaps not present in higher concentrations in an OTC cosmetic and hence not effective on me…So Garnier pure exfoliating face wash is another face wash for regular use
Garnier Pure Active provides an effective, concentrated solution in treating acne-prone skin.
Pores are deeply cleansed and unclogged
Blackheads are dislodged Skin is exfoliated, clean and purified
Skin is visibly mattified
Sebum production is regulated
Skin recovery is accelerated
Proven, visible results:
Blackheads are dislodged -100% *
The number of marks are reduced -69%
A small amount of the product produces enough lather for one use. This way it lasts long.
Effective cleanser on me, comparatively.
The packaging – it’s easy to carry in your bag
Not effective in removing black heads, dead skin cells on and around the T zone.
Garnier – I believe animal tests their products because they are a part of the L’Oreal umbrella of cosmetics/ personal care products
This product have a really good perfume, and remove instantly the blackhead scrub. I've used this on my acne and it works, it keep the face clean and fresh but it make your skin sensitive... I had to moisturize my skin all days because it makes my skin dry.. I don't like the colour of the bottle because it's not really attractive, a more simple design will be fine and it looks like the other product.. The price isn't correct for what it is. I had another Garnier clearing scrub and loved this one more than this product it was called "charcoal scrub" really good product !
Thought I would try this after using some of the other Garnier face wash products and liking them but this one was a waste of time and money, I've tried a few of these blackhead scrubs now and none of them seem to be able to get rid of them blackheads on your nose, I've used this for over a month now and not noticed anything or any difference, maybe it just me and will work for others.
It does last a while thou, I have been using nearly every day for a month and still loads left, should last another couple of months, you only need to use a little each time it spreads well just a shame it doesn't do what it says it does, well at least not for me
If you are buying don't pay £4/£5 just for this one item, look around as there are lots of offers for Garnier products like buy one get one free and when trying out products like this that very rarely work you want to be paying as little as you can.
Garnier seem to have a lot of face wash products out now I've tired a few and this was not one of the better ones
I will finish using it but can't see my self buying it again as some of the other Garnier products seem to have much better results, their 3in1 is probably my favourite so far and done the best job at clearing up my skin.

I have had fairly spot prone skin since my teens and although my skin isn't as bad as it was, I still get the odd annoying spot from time to time. I have also noticed a few blackheads on my T-Zone area. Usually, I exfoliate my skin with a cheaper scrub but I'm trying to get my skin in order before my wedding next year (better to start sooner rather than later) so I thought I'd try a more expensive brand this time to see if it was any better at clearing my blemishes and blackheads as I've yet to find a product that does.
The bottle is a good size at 150ml which will last a while and has a flip top bottom which allows the bottle to stand up and to prevent mess. The colours are fairly eye catching in red and turquoises, this is why it initially caught my eye. You can clearly see the Garnier logo at the top of the bottle. On the bottle it says 'Results from day 1: helps fight spots, fades marks.' Great I thought! On the back it says that PureActive Blackhead Cleaning Scrub is right for you if your skin is prone to blackheads and you want instant effective action to help clear blackheads and fade marks. It also states it helps fight the appearance of spots and helps prevent their reappearance. The product has a concentrated formula with exfoliating micro-beads and a well known antibacterial ingredient.
To use the scrub it needs to be applied to a wet face daily. I tend to use a small blob about the size of a 5p and then rub this in my fingers and apply to my face. It then foams up. The cream should then be rubbed into the face in circular motions concentrating on the T-Zone area.
My experience - when applying it felt very fresh and left a tingling feeling on my skin which really woke me up in the mornings and definitely makes the skin feel cleaner. I felt there was enough exfoliating beads to give the face a good scrub as I tend to get dry skin around my nose, although maybe not as good a scrub as some other products I have used, but I got the scrub for blackheads not dry skin so that didn't matter. Once I had rinsed and dried my face, my skin still felt fresh and a little tight but after applying moisturiser it felt normal again. I didn't mind the tightness as for me that's a sign the product has done a good job.
So did it make a difference to my skin? After 2 weeks use I noticed my blemishes were far less visible and spots weren't appearing as often. The blackheads were still there although a little less noticeable. Blackheads are tough things to get rid of though and I don't think any one cleansing product can get rid of them on their own.
Although the scrub didn't get rid of the blackheads, it smelt nice , left my skin feeling fresh, reduced the appearance of blemishes and blackheads and controlled my spots. I would therefore buy this product again and would recommend to others, just don't expect this scrub to make blackheads disappear!
I have quite a few large pores and blackheads on my nose, so in attempt to get rid of them I've used ALOT of products. I've had positive experiences with garnier products before and didn't hesitate in trying the blackhead clearing scrub which was around £5 at my local chemist.
Packaging: the packaging of this product is fantastically vibrant and really stands out on the shelf, the clean and fresh colours really fit into any bathroom environment and look great in the bathroom cabinet. The scrub comes in a generously sized bottle which has a flip top to ensure that applications are simple and mess free, and if you're like me and hate throwing away products that still have some in but you can't squeeze out the lid, the top of the bottle can easily be cut open with some scissors to ensure that all the product can be used :)
Application: the product has exfoliating beads which 'burst' as you're using it, but the exfoliating action just didn't do it for me. I have quite a build up of dry skin around my nose and feel that I need a good, hard working exfoliant that'll shift these and clear my pores but I'm afraid this product just didn't do the trick. The product did, however, give me a lovely fresh and tingly feeling during and after use which felt great when being used in the shower and my skin definitely felt cleaner. After drying my face it felt tight and uncomfortable, leaving a shiny finish to my face in desperate need of moisturiser. After I quickly applied moisturiser I felt that my skin was repairing after the ordeal rather than really reaping the benefits of the face wash.
Results: I didn't really notice that much of a difference in my skin by the end of week 4, the product promises that you'll see results from the first wash but to be honest my skin didn't look any different. I had to use more moisturiser after I used the face wash as after every application my skin felt uncomfortable and tight. I had to use a separate exfoliant during the week to actually properly exfoliate my face which actually defied the purpose of the product.
Advantages: the product looks great in the bathroom and has that clean look which really stands out. The product also smells great and really follows through with that clean, fresh feeling the product design portrays. When using the face wash it really refreshes the skin and feels fantastic when using in a warm bath or shower, and actually has a spa-like feel.
Disadvantages: the product made my skin feel raw and tight after using, and really defied the purpose of the product by needing to exfoliate with other products during the week. It's promised that the consumer will see results after the first wash but 4 weeks later and I was still waiting on the promised drastic change in the appearance of my skin. It's quite an expensive product and can be a disappointment to someone who doesn't have a lot of money to spend if they're expecting a miracle product to magically clear their skin. I would definitely avoid this product if you have super sensitive skin, probably more suited to those with oily skin.
In my early teens I became prone to really bad break outs and i suffered from acne on my face. Like many other people I tried lots of products, even resorting to prescribed medication and lotions and potions from the doctor.
Then one day I discovered this little scrub and it's really made a difference. My pores are now much more clean and my skin is less greasy, as the scrub doesn't provoke more grease from the skin like others do. However I have found that if you keep using the scrub for a while your skin does become used to it and the effects won't be as good as when you first started using it. Simple solution - use a cleanser one day and then the scrub the next and keep alternating and your skin should become clear again.
The scrub smells great and when using it you can feel it working away at all the grime and leaving your face soft with majorly reduced blackheads. The only small issue is that it can sometimes leave your face quite dried out, especially in the summer, just remember to moisturise with a good moisturiser afterwards.
At an average price of about £3 from most retailers it hardly a huge expense considering a 150ml bottle will last me about 2-3 weeks. Not too much considering I now have much cleaner skin.
When i was younger and sometimes now, i can get bad skin, and obviously this gets everybody down and lowers your confidence, which made me want to try anything which could stop me, and prevent spots from happening all together, i have tried loads of different products and had not really and satisfaction from what they have done, some made your skin soft some smelt nice, but none of them made your skin feel really fresh, clean and get rid of your spots, until i came across Garnier's pure active blackhead scrub, honestly, this is from somebody who in the past has suffered from spots and tried near enough everything, this works, it actually WORKS! It has small beads which work to make your skin softer and work on remover blackheads from your skin, the scrub worked a treat and my spots went away, which was great for my confidence, the only problem is you need to keep using it, as a couple of spots might make their way back, but nothing too bad! i used this every morning, and it works a treat, and it smells good too! but can make your skin dry if you scrub too hard/you dont moisturise.
I bought this product because after using the Neutrogena scrub similar to this for a year or so, it appeared my skin had become used to it, so I needed something to
The packaging is quite colourful, being blue, red and white with the garnier logo, however apart from that is nothing too special. It comes in a squeeze tube that has quite a wide hole, meaning quite a bit of product comes out at once.
The scrub itself is an odd colour - a sort of whitish/clear gel with blue beads inside, which act as the 'scrubbing' part of this scrub. The smell is incredibly strong, and I think it has a menthol fragrance about it which, whilst being refreshing, may not be to some people's taste.
I applied this is circular motions to my damp face, and found the scrub itself to be quite abrasive. After the first few uses, this can leave skin quite sore and red, so this may not be the best for those who have sensitive skin. The blue beads 'burst' on the skin whilst scrubbing, and once the excess is washed off, my face felt quite 'tingly' and clean.
After using it for a few weeks, I have noticed that it makes a difference to my blackheads, however I have to use it both day and night to get really good results, yet this may just be because of my particular skin type.
Overall it's a product that does the job for the price it is (around £5) and it should last a long time, however it needs religious and regular use to see a difference.
I don't suffer from alot from black heads but when i do i find this product really works I tend to use it regularly so my skin does stay black head free which is what we all want especially as I always wear makeup alot so my skin does really suffer. I have tried other black head treatments but they only tended to work for a little while which was great at the price of some of them. I found that after each use, it leaves my skin super soft, glowing with radiance but most important, blackhead-free! It is a very gentle yet effective scrub, suitable for every day use. I read online some reviwers' skin feeling tight and dry but don't forget that this is a scrub not a regural cleanser and scrubs tend to leave that feeling. Personally, i'm not at all bothered, since tightness dissapears after i use my moisturiser (Pure Active moisturiser, also by Garnier). I'm on my, hmm, 7th bottle i think (kinda lost count), i don't intend to stop repurchasing any time soon this is a real treasure!. I find that steaming my face for 5 mins and then using this really gives a good clean I would recommend only doing this once a week.
I decided to try Garnier Pure Active Blackhead Clearing scrub because it looked similar to L'Oreal Pure Zone, the best face wash I have ever found, which of course I can no longer find anywhere (this is the story of my life, basically). That wash was the only thing I ever found that really made a difference to my awful, spotty skin, so I was totally prepared to be disappointed by this one.
This product is about £5, which is pretty much the price I expect for these types of products and a price I'm happy to pay for anything that will make a difference to my skin. The label claims that the product fights spots and fades marks, and has results from day one. It also contains something called Herba Soothe, to calm skin. The bottle is white with a red label with a target on it, typical packaging for this kind of product, and has a snap-open blue lid.
The scrub is light blue, quite opaque which I was a bit surprised by, and has large blue scrubbing beads. The amount that comes out is very easy to control, but as it doesn't really lather up much you will need a larger amount than with some products of this kind. It has a fresh, menthol-type smell which I think is the Herba-Soothe. It reminds me a bit of Vicks rub, but not in a bad way.
When applying this, rub it in all around, and gently to avoid irritating skin. It is quite creamy and pleasant to use. After I wash the product off, which has to be done quite thoroughly to avoid finding blue beads in random places afterwards, my skin feels very clean and sort of energised. It feels cool and refreshed, again the Herba-Soothe I think as it is quite a unique feeling. I really enjoy how cleansed my skin feels after using this, and once thoroughly dry it feels quite soft and smooth as well. Be careful though, because if you get this in your eyes by accident, the pain is quite amazing, much worse than with most face wash products!
I certainly don't agree that it works from day one, and it doesn't really clean my pores as much as I would like, but it has definitely helped to control my break outs. Within about a week I noticed a difference, and I have now been using it for a couple of months. Many products I have tried help for awhile and then stop working, but so far so good with this one.
I still have many problems with my skin, but using this twice a day has definitely helped and my skin feels very clean without feeling stripped. I don't really see the red marks left by previous spots fading at all though, I have been using another product for that (Clinique post blemish formula), and have been out of it for a couple of weeks now. In that time I have seen absolutely no further fading of the marks I had, so I wouldn't put much hope in this product to help with that. As a face wash though, it is brilliant and I will be continuing to use it to control my skin problems.
After trying about every single one of these scrub things out there - time has now come for this one. I always seem to have at least one spot somewhere on my face and no matter what I do, they always come back.
Since I´ve been using this, I have noticed that I seem to be getting slightly less spots - so its the best one I´ve found so far!
When you put it on and start scrubbing, you can really feel the scrub corns digging and and really getting rid of all the dead skincells. Don´t scrub to hard or your face will go very red indeed (trust me on that one) just gently rub it in all over and then rinse properly. The skin feels really nice and smooth, almost like a babies bottom!
Its got a nice pleasant smell, not to strong and very fresh. I use it twice a day and like I said, it does seem to be working better than other´s I´ve tried.
You don´t need much every time you use it, so the tub will last you well over a month and the price is not bad so I think I will b sticking with this one for now :)
As regular readers of my reviews will know, my skin is extremely oily and barely a day goes by without yet another spot cropping up. Blackheads too are a regular appearance. I've tried a range of products in my battle to limit breakouts and have clearer skin (I'm not expecting spot-free skin miraculously!) with some having decent results in the short term but every so often I'm sucked into buying something and in this case, it was this facial scrub.
Having tried a good few products that claim to get rid of blackheads, it wasn't that made me buy the product. The scrub contains salicylic acid to tackle spots and an extract derived from blackberries to help fade spot marks. The majority of my spots linger for weeks before eventually turning into a fade mark and I slather on a blemish fade lotion every night to help with that so I was quite intrigued by the idea of having that in a face scrub.
USING THE SCRUB
The scrub contains blue beads, most of which are fairly small but there are some larger ones mixed in too. The smell isn't particularly strong but at the same time I can detect some scent while I'm using it but it's by no means overpowering or off-putting. It doesn't lather up at all so it's just a case of putting it on, rubbing it into your face and then washing off, but I do often find that the beads take a bit of effort to fully wash them off. I sometimes end up just inadvertently pushing them around my face first so that's something to bear in mind if you plan to use this in the mornings when you're likely to be in a rush.
I've been using this for a few months now and have been impressed with its effectiveness. As I suspected, the blackheads across my nose and chin have not diminished in appearance or quantity at all but within a week or two, my skin looked a lot better and within 3 weeks, it was about as clear as spot-prone skin is ever going to be!
A few weeks ago, I had a cold which completely dried out the skin around my nose and around my mouth so I was reluctant to use a wash-off product that I knew would likely aggravate that dryness even more so I switched to using a cleanser and toner during that period and I could immediately tell the difference. A whole crop of spots erupted, predominantly on my chin, which hadn't been the case while I was using this scrub. Once I switched back to using this, they died down a lot but didn't fade altogether this time.
This wasn't a particuarly cheap product. I bought mine in Superdrug several months ago and I believe it was priced somewhere between £4 and £5 then. A quick price comparison shows that it's currently just above the £5k mark in a lot of places (notably the supermarkets) but if you like the sound of my review, Asda are selling it for a much more purse-friendly £3.50 at the moment.
All in all, I'm really impressed with this scrub. It's by no means a miracle worker and it won't bring about perfectly clear skin but it goes a long way towards keeping my skin in check and helping to fade any spots that do crop up more quickly than before. If you're buying this purely in the hope of removing blackheads though, I wouldn't bother as by my reckoning, it's a complete waste of money if you have blackheads but aren't particularly troubled by spots. Because of that, I'm dropping my rating to a 3 - it is called Blackhead Clearing Scrub, after all! - but don't take this to mean that it's an average scrub as I can honestly say that as a spot-fighting product, it's one of the best I've come across. Don't believe the packaging hype that it works from day one as that's definitely not been the case for me but if you're prepared to be a bit more patient and not expect those kind of instant results in reality, it's working wonders on my skin in comparison to the spotty mess it was before.
I have, and still do a bit, suffered from spots/acne in the past and have tried many different skin care products to try do get rid of it. The one that pretty much eradicated them was a Benzoyl cream from the doctors. Whilst it worked well, I wanted something a bit less harsh on my skin that I could use on a daily basis. I eventually came to this wash, the Garnier Pure Active Blackhead Clearing Scrub.
I started using it about a year ago when I ran out of a different product and this was the one I bought to replace it. I was meant to get the one I normally use, but my local supermarket only had this one. On the front it says "Results from Day 1" and it "Helps to fight spots...". Initially I didn't see any results for the first couple of days but I kept using it. After the first couple of weeks I started to see improvements, my skin started to become clearer and it kept it clean.
I usually apply it in the morning in the shower, but if I go swimming or to the gym I also apply it then. It is a simple face wash that comes out of the bottle as a cream with some small blue beads in. As you rub it into your face, the cream lathers up slightly and these beads are broken down to clean your skin. According to the back of the bottle, the bead and a "well known anti bacterial agent" help to clear the blackhead and fight the appearance of spots. It is also said to include an extract from Blueberries that is meant to reduce the appearance of marks.
Salicyclic acid, usually found in aspirin, is also present in the formulation, which is the anti bacterial agent in this case. "Herbasoothe" is also in the formulation which is extract taken from Blueberries.
As a daily wash, I have found it to be very useful is calming spots and keeping my face clean. Used on a daily basis keeps my skin in order and spots away. I do find that if I don't use it for a couple of days then spots do start to appear again, which means that the product must be working.
It comes in a 150ml plastic squeezable bottle and costs about £3.50. This is about the same as similar products on the market but I personally think it is far superior. One bottle will last me about 4-6 weeks, however I usually use 2 bottles at a time, one for at home and another in my gym bag. I usually buy it from my local Sainsbury's when I go shopping, however I know it can be bought from most good chemists. I would definitely recommend it to anyone with spot prone skin who is willing to persevere a couple of weeks to see noticeable improvements. I am going to give this 5/5 because it has worked really well for me and I think it will work as well for other people too.
It is manufactured by Garnier Skincare.
