I don't have acne but have suffered from whiteheads and blackheads along my T-Zone for most of my life (I'm 33). Having a bad habit of causing scarring due to picking my spots, I thought I'd try this out (alongside the PureActive toner) to see if it made a difference to my skin.
Although it's fair to say that the wash has a soapy texture and removes dirt and oil from the skin quite well, I don't think that the wash has made the slightest bit of difference to my skin. Its the same as ever and I'm still struggling to keep my pores from blocking up (it's fair to say though that I do tend to wear make-up).
The smell is quite medicated and upon use, has a tendency to dry out your skin (it gets a little too tight). That said, the product contains salicylic acid which will act to clear pores and tighten the skin but being 2% may be overly harsh for some (hence the drying and tightening of skin)....as such, this may promote eventual excess oil and sebum release.
In general, definitely a good all round facewash but I wouldn't recommend if you want a long term solution.
I was so glad when I found this product!
I've always had really bad skin from being about 12 or 13, really oily and prone to lots of spots and blackheads. I tried loads of different things over the years but this is the only one that really worked.
The bottle has a pump dispenser on it so it's real easy to use and you only need one pump at a time so it lasts ages as well. It only costs £4.99 too so it's great if you're on a budget!
The wash is kind of like a gel texture but when you add water it foams up loads. It feels really fresh and tingly when you use it, but it doesn't sting or bring me out in a rash like Clearasil and Clean & Clear do, it's pretty gentle really!
It makes my skin feel so clean, like it's had a proper deep clean out of the pores, and after using it a while you can really notice a difference. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't give me perfect skin, but it certainly makes it look a whole lot clearer, with far less spots and blackheads than I used to get.
I don't always use it every day, I sometimes alternate with other cleansers as it can be a bit drying if you use it too much, but if I stop using it for a week I can see the difference already in my skin and the spots start to come back again.
I bought this on a whim, hoping to sort out my flared up, extremely blemished skin. I used it alongside the Pure Active Roll-on.
This was quite expensive for a facewash (not entirely sure on the price) but it has lasted me a very, very long time. You only need one pump per wash. The packaging is simple and modern, making it look very kinda... medical. This instantly made me think this must work. The pump is very useful and you don't get any product build up that causes it not to work.
The product itself is a blue gel. It lathers up fantastically and feels lovely when you apply it to your skin. The smell is very strong, and just smells chemically which makes me think it isn't as 'natural' as they make it out to be. I did find that when I wanted to wash it off, it was very difficult. The product just wouldn't wash off and took a lot of rinsing. However, when i'd used it my skin felt very fresh and clean, whilst being soft aswell. It certainly mattified my oily skin and I loved the way it felt. There was no trace of makeup left.
The product did clear up my skin after a few months of using it. It didn't make a huge improvement but I could definately see some change. I did notice a slight difference in the size of my pores, but they hadn't disappeared completely. This, like the roll on, however stopped working it's miracles after about 6 months of use. I do, however, still use it as I think it is a brilliant face wash and really gets rid of any dirt, makeup or grease on your face.
During a recent 3 for 2 run at Boots, stocking up on Beauty products, I decided to try the new Garnier PureActive Deep Pore Face Wash, as I had previously used the Garnier Pure Deep Clean Foam wash which was an earlier version of the product I'm reviewing, and I quite liked that.
Garnier's description of this product:
"Its intensely refreshing formula delivers an instant double action to help fight spots and fade marks. The concentrated formula with Salicylic Acid works to deeply purify pores. Enriched with extract of blueberry, the formula helps to reduce the appearance of marks."
I think Garnier are phasing out the "Pure" range and replacing it with the "Pure Active" range, as I'm seeing less or the former on shelves. The Pure Active range seems to be for the same target market (those for problematic skin). Not quite sure what the difference is supposed to be, but let's see!
This is ever so slightly more expensive than their previous Pure face wash was, and it costs £4.99 from Boots for 200ml. Still not breaking the bank though, and it lasts quite long which is good.
It comes in a pump bottle which is great and less fiddly, as I hate taking lids off and having to squeeze things to get product out. The product itself is a deep aqua blue liquidy gel, and you can either lather it up directly on your wet face, or in your palms before you apply it. The gel itself has a slightly clinical but not unpleasant smell, and it foams up nicely on your face. My face was left clean, soft and fresh feeling, without being too dry, squeaky or tingly. I usually wear foundation, and it seemed to do fairly well taking make up off, though you'll probably find your toner may drag some more deep set makeup out.
I think this new face wash is a slight improvement on the previous Pure face wash, as that one was good but I think it felt a little more clinical than this one is. This wash feels like it is working, but is also fairly gentle on your skin as your skin doesn't feel stripped. The salicylic acid in there helps tackle your spots and blemishes, although I am not sure that it would on its own cure your spots or reduce any marks or scars you have, as I think that is a job for products like blemish cream or moisturiser to tackle.
I haven't used this with the other products in the Pure Active range, so based on the use of this product alone, I can't be sure if it works in solving problematic skin issues, but it sure does make your face feel clean and fresh and I didn't have any reactions or extra blemishes from using it.
If you want a face wash to help keep your skin fresh and clear, this a good product to try.
