Good Things is a skin care brand which uses natural ingredients to create products that help to look after teenage skin. Although I am sadly far away from the days of being a teenager, my skin still displays many of the same traits that the brand targets including blemishes and oily skin.
Their products are gentle even on sensitive skin and the company prides itself on ensuring that its products are free from parabens and other nasty chemicals. They never test their products or the ingredients within them on animals. My latest purchase in the Good Things collection has been the Good Clean Fun Freshening Polish.
What does the product do?
This product is essentially a gentle exfoliant for the face and its aim is to remove dead skin cells from the surface of the face. In doing, it prevent pores from being clogged and becoming enlarged, stops blemishes from forming and leaves you with a radiant and glowing complexion as the dead, dull skin cells are scrubbed away.
How does it work?
I must admit that the main swaying points in me buying this product, was the fact that the exfoliating ingredient is Strawberry seeds. It seemed like such a cute and natural idea that it appealed to me greatly. The seeds gently scrub off the dead skin cells and leave the pores unclogged, allowing the skin to breath properly. They also remove the dull skin, leaving your complexion radiant. As well as the seeds of the fruit, Strawberry extract itself is also included within the exfoliant. The fruit is rich in vitamins which nourish and strengthen the skin and leave it in a better condition.
Also included to perform an exfoliating action are little beads containing Jojoba Oil. The beads work with the Strawberry seeds to smooth the skin's surface while the oils inside moisturise the skin deeply as they burst. It replenishes the moisture levels that the exfoliating action may have removed and helps the skin to maintain its elasticity and works to prevent the formation of wrinkles.
The Cranberry within the product is high in antioxidants and so it fights against the free radicals that are lurking in the skin which would have otherwise caused premature aging. The vitamin rich berries helps to rejuvenate the skin and leave it looking healthier and as it promotes the production of collagen, it should help to plump up the skin and make it look firmer.
Willow Bark Extract is included because of its ability to tone the skin and reduce the size of the pores. This means that fewer oils will be produced and fewer blemishes will form in clogged pores. The substance also helps to calm spots that you may already have due to its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic qualities.
How do you use the product?
As with most exfoliants, this product is not designed to be used daily as it can be too harsh and strip the skin of its natural moisture. I find that that twice a week is more than enough to provide the desired results. After splashing my face with warm water, I take a small amount of the product and massage it onto the skin, being careful not to apply too much pressure.
I take care not to go anywhere near the skin around my eye area because it is too delicate and it can do more harm than good. I have used the product on my lips before but it didn't taste good so now I avoid that area and save it for my sugar Lip Scrub by Lush. After a few minutes, I rinse the product off my face and then splash my skin with cold water to close the pores.
Packaging and Price
The packaging follows the usual pattern of the Good Things brand. It is enclosed within a white tube with a flip top lid on which it can stand so it will look neat and tidy on display in your bathroom. On the front of the bottle, there is some colourful writing and some swirling branches, leaves and flowers to reflect the natural ingredients inside.
The product will cost you around £5 in order to buy 150ml of the exfoliant. This is a fairly good price for a natural product which will only be used twice weekly at most and will therefore last a very long time. It can be bought from large department stores such as Boots and also from the Good Things website.
As with all the Good Things products, this exfoliant smells good enough to eat. It is fantastically fruity and deliciously sweet. I assumed the aroma came from the strawberries and cranberries inside but I have noticed when looking at the ingredients that some perfume has been added so some of the fragrance must be artificial.
The texture of the product is gel like and the product has a faint white colour. Although it goes almost clear when rubbed onto the skin, you are still able to easily see where you have applied it and which bits you have missed out. You can clearly see the exfoliating particles within the formula and there are certainly plenty of them.
Despite the exfoliating particles being small, they still have a fairly hard consistency so if you apply a lot of pressure when massaging this product on the face, it will feel uncomfortable. A gentle massaging action is more than enough to get this product working. After all, you are only aiming to remove the dead skin cells resting on top of your face, not the shiny new layer underneath!
Even though this product contains perfume, which I think is unnecessary in a face product, it still doesn't irritate my sensitive skin. My face doesn't feel uncomfortable when the product is on my skin and is doesn't cause any tightness once it has been removed. My face may look a little red due to the rubbing of the particles but this fades within minutes and the product hasn't ever caused any new blemishes to form.
After use, my skin feels a teeny tiny bit dry but it isn't anything your normal moisturiser can't remedy. The product leaves my skin feeling very smooth and polished. It gets rid of the pesky flaky skin that I sometimes get on my forehead and nose and makes my make up look much better. My skin also looking healthier and more radiant and my complexion is glowing.
All in all, if you have super sensitive skin, you may be better off choosing a different exfoliant. Because it contains perfume and hard particles, it might irritate some skins although so far it's been fine on mine. The product lives up to all of its promises, smells lovely and leaves my skin soft and smooth. This is one of the better exfoliants I've tried in this price range.
