Guerlain Secret De Purete Gentle Polishing Exfoliator
Advantages: smooth skin, fewer breakouts, tube
Disadvantages: smell, no WOW
After buying a few Guerlain products and loving them I really wanted to try some more but without having to spend the money on them. So I subtly added them to my gift lists in the hope that family members might indulge me by giving me one as a gift.
This product is a cleansing exfoliator which comes in a pearly coloured plastic tube with pale gold twist lid. The tube is very handy as the flexible plastic makes it easy to squeeze and to cut open as the product runs out. I think the design is very elegant and understated - though not as plus or luxurious looking as Guerlain products can be. The application hole is a good size for use and allows you to be more frugal and use less should you wish to - I like having the option of this particularly with such an expensive product.
The product itself is a white cream which has medium to small exfoliating beads in it. The cream feels quite thick which is nice when applied to the skin and the beads are a good size for a face exfoliator, I have found with other products they tend to be big and sparsely populate the cream or gel making the exfoliator basically ineffective. I thought this exfoliator had a generous dispersion of beads in it so had high hopes for what it could do to my skin. The smell of the product is not particularly appealing, it has a chemical/synthetic smell to it which is quite obviously not a fragrance. I do like the fact that they have left the product unfragranced as I often think heavily perfumed face products aren't very good for your skin. However, the overall effect with this exfoliator is a little unpleasant because of the chemical smell - it also makes me question what is in the product and whether it is good for my skin.
The exfoliator does do a perfectly adequate job of smoothing my skin, evening complexion and reducing breakouts - but not more than any other (cheaper) exfoliator does. I my skin feels very smooth and clean afterwards, it lasts for a day or two and when you do apply this exfoliator you don't need to use a lot. But it really is no more than an average product.
So this leads me to the following question: What, exactly, am I paying for? The brand, is my only conclusion - and that's very disappointing for me. At £25 this product is too expensive and doesn't do enough!
No WOW for me.
Summary: Does not do enough to warrant the price.
