I saw a bottle of Guerlain Aqua Toning Lotion in my local chemist which was reduced from £28.00 to just £17.00 - and that seemed like a bargain too good to miss. I have used Guerlain products in the past and I have been generally impressed by the quality of these products, but I do have to admit that I have not seen the Guerlain Aqua Toning Lotion before - and when I asked for it recently in Boots they did not have it in stock and so I'm not sure whether this is something which they still make as a matter of routine. I have seen it in some random stores online for around £30, but it doesn't seem to be that readily available.
I always cleanse and moisturize (usually using Clarins products) but I rarely tone - but as I'm getting older I'm starting to think that this is something I should be doing now so that I don't get saggy (I'm not far off of the big 4-0). I would certainly not pay £28 for a toner, but as it was significantly reduced to £17.00 this seemed like a far more reasonable price to pay. There is 200ml in the bottle and so it's a decent size bottle and a little goes a long way - and I found that one bottle lasts me about six weeks or so......which isn't bad. The bottle looks classy like the rest of Guerlain products and is that classic pale blue and gold that is so typical of Guerlain. There is no pump or anything to release the toner and it's just a matter of tipping the bottle up to pour out the amount of toner you want - which I actually prefer because I feel I have more control over how much I use and therefore there is less waste.
In order to use, I tip a small amount of the toner onto a cotton wool pad and then gently wipe over my face in an upward circular motion. The aroma is very refreshing being slightly sweet but certainly not over perfumed. It's cool on my skin and therefore is refreshing and makes my skin feel alive. I do feel that there is a slight astringent quality to the toner, but again I have found that this tends to be true of most toners (although I was hoping this would be less so as it supposedly hydrates as well as tones). I did feel like I definitely had to moisturise after using this toner, but once I had moisturised my face felt nicely hydrated. I also found that this toner did not have that horrible sticky feeling that some toners leave on your face. I do believe that using this product did contribute to my skin looking and feeling fresher and just in better overall condition.
Overall, I would recommend this product if you can pick it up for under £20 - I don't think I would pay more than this. It seems like a good toner.
I use this among my cleansing regime of Givenchy products as I dislike the Givenchy toner as it makes me feel tingly and tight. My mum uses this Guerlain one and its good for all skin types so she decided to try it on me and it works beautifully.
Firstly the smell is luxurious, it transports you to the time of when people would barter in foreign lands for fragranced arabian oils. Its refreshing and smells delightfully feminine. All of Guerlain's products have this similar fragranced smell and it just reminds me of my mum. It's a comforting and relaxing scent.
When on your skin it is light and refreshing, and it closes up your pores after a cleansing routine. Most toners have a refreshing feel as they tingle with that citrusy feel but this one has a different type of freshness, its like a gentle pore massage and your face feels clean and smooth afterwards and doesn't leave problem areas on your skin slightly raised or highlighted, it infact calms those areas down as well as it is just so light.
It costs about £30 for 200ml which is £10 more than the Givenchy equivalent but it is so worth it if just more than you in the house uses it (that is if you want to share it.)
My only issue is the design of how the liquid comes out... I have spilt it quite a few times and wanted to cry... it should have a much smaller opening so clumsy people like me don't spill all of it....
I used this in conjunction with the cleansing milk (see my other reviews) and it is simply gorgeous!
It has such a lovely, refreshing smell that really does quite transport you somewhere else! I know I focus on smell of products quite a lot in my reviews but I think they really are important when you are going to spend this much on a high end product, and are a lovely benefit for cheaper products anyway!
I think it's important especially at the end of the day to have nice smelling products that make you feel calm and relaxed and away from the chaos of life, even for a few minutes and you're standing in your non-luxurious bathroom!
It's important also to feel as if you deserve nice products and to spend time on yourself, and with this Guerlain product you certainly feel that! It's a nice little 5 minutes of relaxation to use Guerlain products (I will always champion Guerlain!), and I really do love this toner.
It is so light and refreshing, even when you use a cleanser that leaves your skin quite tight afterwards, instead of increasing this effect (as a lot of toners will do), it instead leaves your skin feeling instantly soft and nourished.
Another benefit of Guerlain products, is that they look beautiful in your bathroom! You feel so much more like you are really 'treating' yourself when all you're really doing is taking your make up off or preparing for the start of the day!
At £29 for 200ml, it is certainly not cheap, but is in line with other products of a similar prestige on the market.
Really wonderful toner.
