Advantages: smells great, left skin smooth, soft and moisturised
Disadvantages: only temporary effect
I don't really celebrate Easter for the intended reasons, but instead had a lovely time enjoying the commercial and modernised aspects of the festivities over this past holiday weekend. I indulged myself with a pampering day which included the use of several chocolate themed beauty products, and this H&M Chocolate Face Mask was one of the goodies that I used. The H&M beauty range is available to buy exclusively from H&M, and can be found in their high street stores or online at www.hm.com/gb/. It costs 99p for a 15g sachet.
This item is described as a rich chocolate moisturising mask with Mediterannean clay, cocoa & shea butte to moisturise and nourish skin. H&M say: "Deep cleansing mask. A masque like no other! This deep cleansing chocolate mud masque with Dead Sea Salt, and moisturising Cocoa Butter & Shea Butter will help to unblock pores and refresh your skin."
Recommended directions for use: Cleanse face; apply evenly over face and neck, avoiding eyes and lips. Leave on for 10-15 minutes and rinse with water.
I like to give myself a good pampering when I am using a face mask, and these Montagne Jeunesse face masks always feel like a nice indulgent treat. To begin with, I made sure that all traces of make-up were fully removed and I then went about applying the mask. The packaging was a little bit tricky to handle as the tear-off sections were quite hard to pull apart. In the end I had to resort to ripping the top off with my teeth which is never the best option!
The mask itself is very thick and I had to apply a reasonable amount of pressure to get it out of the sachet. It warmed slightly as I applied it to my face and this helped to make it easy to spread over my skin and it stayed in place well. The mask is chocolate based, and as such has a rich, creamy, milky brown appearance. It also smells strongly of chocolate which is a lovely part of the experience of using the mask, and the scent stayed with me until I washed it all away.
This should be left on for 10-15 minutes to allow it to really get to work on your skin. I left it on for the full 15 minutes and by this time the mask had dried out slightly but there was no feeling of tightness and it still felt comfortable. Because the mask was so thick I found it quite time consuming when washing it off. I had to scrub at the dried mask to soften and loosen it, and it took 3 repeats before the mask had fully come away from my face and neck. This was quite messy but afterwards my skin did feel fully cleansed and I was convinced that the deep cleansing ingredients in the mask had done a good job.
I was also impressed that my skin felt soft, smooth and moisturised. When I applied my night cream later on it seemed to glide over the surface of my skin and my whole complexion seemed to be evened out. I have combination type skin and this made my face feel and appear more balanced. Regrettably, the only problem is that the effects only seemed to last for a temporary period. By the next morning my skin actually felt a bit on the dry side and any benefits from using the face mask seemed to have all but disappeared. This was disappointing, especially given the impressive results directly after use.
Usually I find that face mask sachets contain far too much of the product and there is always some leftover which gets wasted if you do not store it and re-use correctly. This sachet contained 15g of product which was the perfect amount to provide full coverage over my face and my neck and I didn't have to worry about any excess or waste.
I really enjoyed using this face mask and noticed positive results afterwards, although they did not seem to last for long. I have another H&M face mask to try so I'm curious to see what kind of results I get from that, and I would definitely recommend the Chocolate Face Mask if you like your beauty treats to be sweet!
Summary: A nice chocolatey skin treat
