Advantages: Moistens, Softens Skin, Sun Protection, Bargain Price
Disadvantages: None in my opinion
Naming my favourite facial moisturiser would be a challenge. I have for years been using a mixture of body moisturisers with the occasional face product thrown in for good measure and have only recently realised the significance of using a moisturiser specifically designed for facial use. I confess that being in my mid twenties I am not yet that age conscious, however I do have quite dry skin which suffers with the odd fine line and freckle meaning that when I went to my local Boots recently I went with one thing in mind, to find a hydrating product for my face which also gave me some sun protection. The Boots aisles can be a bit of a challenge on a busy Saturday afternoon, so it was with glee that I spotted the Johnsons adult range of products and picked up a jar of their 24 hour moisturiser for dry skin.
The Johnsons 24 hour facial moisturiser comes in two different boxes. One which is designed for normal skin and the other that is designed for dry skin. Both claim to be able to lock in moisture for up to 24 hours and the only difference in the packaging of these moisturisers is that the 'normal skin' box has a pink text box and the 'dry skin' box has a blue box. Being that I have quite dry skin, particularly in harsh weather, I picked up the dry skin option.
The packaging design of both options is functional yet pretty to look at in my opinion. The boxes are pale pink in colour and open to reveal a translucent and sturdy glass jar with a pink lid. The moisturiser can be seen through the sides of the jar and is white in colour and you get 50ml of contents in one tub. Upon screwing off the lid I was pleased to find that this moisturiser smells the same as any other product in the Johnsons adult and baby range; the smell being light, clean and cottony in fragrance.
Skimming my finger across the surface of the moisturiser I found it to be quite a thick consistency and I envisaged that this would make it heavy on my skin. However, one application on my face the next morning took away my initial scepticism.
Johnsons claim that this moisturiser nourishes skin for up to 24 hours using a combination of minerals, vitamins and shea butter. In addition to the moisturising qualities it also provides sun protection with an SPF of 15. They also claim that this moisturiser provides a good base for makeup.
**Price and Availability**
This moisturiser comes in with a very budget conscious price tag of £4.07 in Boots which makes it a bargain in my opinion when compared to some similar products. An added bonus was that I bought mine with my Boots advantage card and so it didn't cost me a penny in theory. This moisturiser can also be bought in a number of cosmetics stores, supermarkets and online for a similar price tag.
It is advised that this product is used on clean and dry skin. In my experience I like to wash my face with cold water first thing in the morning to try and invigorate my tired skin before slapping a few dabs onto my face, generally one on either cheek and forehead before rubbing in. The cream rubs easily onto the skin in my opinion without pulling or stretching my face. Once on my face the cream does look add a slightly oily look to the skin which is quickly absorbed within no more than five minutes. You are then ready to go about applying your makeup with the comfort that your skin is protected from the sun for the day ahead.
**My Experience and Results**
I have now been using this moisturiser for a couple of months and have found it to be an extremely reliable cream for moisturising my face. The cream hydrates my skin without leaving it looking oily or shiny and absorbs quickly. This moisturiser also allows me some comfort when putting my makeup on. Given that I only wear a touch of face powder and eyeliner during the day, I find that this moisturiser allows makeup to spread easily onto my skin and does not leave areas of patchiness. In addition this moisturiser is gentle enough on my skin even after waxing and does not irritate or sting in the slightest.
I cannot testify to wearing this moisturiser for 24 hours as I religiously wash my face both morning and night and would have to say that my skin does being to feel dry in the evening at which point I slap a new face of moisturiser on. However, the compact and durable glass tub combined with the neutral colours means that it sits solidly on my bathroom cabinet and can be used by my other half without him being intimidated by the oh so girly packaging.
As this product comes in a tub size of 50ml I generally find that this is enough to last around 4 - 6 weeks if used both morning and night. However, I consider the bargain price and moisturising qualities of this moisturiser mean that when it comes to topping up it is an easy win-win.
Having used this product for a couple of months now I can testify that it provides exactly what it says on the box. It is a great everyday moisturiser which protects as well as moistens. I am therefore recommending this moisturiser particularly for those who want a quality product with a bargain price.
This product scores an excellent five stars out of five from me.
