Advantages: Works, leaves my skin soft
Disadvantages: None
I have really rough skin on my face which is one of the more unwelcome symptoms of having an underactive thyroid. My face always feels like sandpaper and it gets sore quite quickly and my skin is really dry too. I wanted to find something that would get rid of the flaky skin on my face without leaving me as red as a beetroot so I had a look in Boots and found this product by Johnson's and thought I would try it as they are best know for making things that are suitable for a baby's skin so thought it would not harm my 54 year old skin either.
The product is called gentle exfoliating wash but being a bit naive even at my age I hadn't got a clue what you were supposed to do with it and didn't read the back before using so my first attempt was a bit of a disaster. I had bought myself a pack of cotton wool and squeezed a tiny bit out on some of the cotton wool and then used this to wipe my face over. The cotton wool felt really rough on my face and by the time I had done all of it my skin was red raw. I rinsed it all off again and put some moisturiser on and left it for an hour for the redness to go but then my face did look a bit smoother.
The next day I decided to do what I should have done in the first place and read the back of the pack. It told me to lather some up on my hands and then wash with it and rinse off. I found this much easier to do. The wash lathered up nicely and it felt much better on my face. It was very grainy like it had bits of sand or grit in it but it didn't feel horrible or painful, and using my hands I could get it into all the cracks and creases and rub more on the bits where the flaky skin builds up more. After giving it a good wash I splashed my face with some clean water and used a bit more of my cotton wool to dab it dry then applied my moisturiser and my face felt lovely and smooth and this time it was not bright red.
I do not use this every single day but about every other day and have found it really does work for me and my skin is looking a lot better than it has for years. I would recommend this wash, it was a good price, I think I paid about £2.90 for it at the time and it seems to be lasting well.
