As the weather is turning colder, my skin tends to need a little extra treatment. I have tried many different lotions and potions over the years. But still many more out there for me to try!
Johnson's Face Care - Daily Essentials Hydrating 24hour Day Cream 50ml:
'JOHNSON's Hydrating 24 Hour Day Cream with SPF 15 is enriched with essential skin loving minerals and vitamins, locking in moisture for 24 hours, leaving skin feeling soft and refreshed whilst providing an excellent base for make-up'
One of my favourite moisturisers is from Benefit however as my skin at the moment is in need of more, it is rather pricey keep replacing it. So I went on the hunt a couple of weeks back for a hydrating moisturiser as under my eyes and around my cheeks where starting to feel somewhat dry.
As I was looking around Superdrug I was about to purchase there own brand intensive cream but right next to it was the Johnson's face cream. After reading the packaging I decided it suited me better to what I was looking for.
Using this cream for the first time I found it a little thicker in consistency to some other moisturisers I have used in the past. It is pure white in colour but doesn't make you look like Casper when applying. Rubbing this into my skin I felt the difference there and then.
It states that this cream is for normal skin however mine at the time I thought was on the dry skin side rather that normal. Saying that it has worked extremely well, it has been around three weeks now since I started using this each morning after cleansing.
You do need to rub it in a little due to it being a little thicker, but afterwards my skin feels amazing. So soft and moisturised my skin feels, this is only a good thing in my books. Each person's skin is different but I find this lasts me the whole day. They also do a night cream in this range which I am now temped to purchase.
One thing which is a must for me in a face cream is SPF sun protection factor. Even in the winter the suns rays can still get to your skin, aging and drying it out. This cream has a SPF of 15 which I think is great for the colder months of the year. But I would use something stronger in the summer months.
The fragrance of the cream I found fresh, sweet and slightly floral but I can not see from the ingredients for product description what the scent should be. All I know is that I find it pleasant, once I've added my make up I can't seem to smell it anymore.
This product comes in a cardboard box, the main product details are written over the box. Then the cream comes in a glass tub with a screw off lid, I had no problems when opening and closing. My only bug is that you have to scoop the product out. Which I knew at the time of purchasing but I do prefer squeeze tubes. Once all empty it can be recycled.
Price and Availability:
I paid £3.00 for this product while on offer in Superdrug, normal price is around £4.00 mark. I still feel that is really good value for money. I have used this for around three weeks each morning and still have three quarters left!
In this range you can also get -
Cleansing gel and lotion
After using this product and really liking it I am temped to purchase the other matching items in this range. I would certainly recommend this product to people whom have light dry skin and normal. Reading into this product upsettingly I am unaware if it is animal tested? Some sites say yes and some say no?
Five out of five stars from me
Thank you for reading.
Review of Johnson's 24 Hour Moisture Facial Moisturiser.
As the name implies, this review is about a 24 hour facial moisturiser from the well known company, Johnson & Johnson.
The product is presented in a pretty pink square shaped box. The Johnson's logo and the product name and description appear on the front, back and lid of the box, along with a pale green, feathery plant image. Ingredients, instructions for use and other information are printed on the base and sides of the packaging.
Inside the cardboard outer box, the product sits neatly beneath the lid, a round, solid looking glass pot with a pale pink plastic lid. The pot contains 50ml of the product which has a shelf life of 12 months, once opened. The outer packaging and the glass pot are of course, recyclable.
Johnson's claim that their 24 hour Moisture Facial Moisturiser will smooth the skin for an even complexion, mattify and balance skin to control shine and lock in moisture for 24 hours.
The moisturiser is designed for normal and combination skin types and has been dermatologically tested.
**Scent, Texture, Appearance and Usage**
The pot is sealed for hygiene purposes with a silver foil inner lid. Removing the foil reveals the actual moisture cream. This is a white, fluffy, fairly thick cream, with a silky texture.
The product has a very pleasant scent, light and clean with an almondy top note and an almost soapy base note to the fragrance.
The moisturiser glides onto the skin and absorbs very easily, leaving no sticky residue. Johnson's advise users to apply daily to the face and neck, after cleansing. They also state that their 24 Hour facial moisturiser is an excellent base for make up.
24 Hour Moisturiser is produced in France for Johnson & Johnson.
The product is not aimed at any particular age range, so would suit almost anyone from young teens upwards.
I will not bore readers with a list of ingredients in this product. I am sure no one really wants to wade through a list of unpronounceable pharmaceutical ingredients!
**Cost and Availability**
Johnson & Johnson 24 Hour Facial moisturiser is widely available from supermarkets and High Street stores such as Boots and Superdrug.
The cost of this product is a modest £3.99 currently in my local independent pharmacy. Naturally, prices may vary from shop to shop and it is always worth looking out for special offers, extra 'points' deals and so on!
**My Experience and Conclusion**
I am a more mature user, being over 50 years of age. My skin care routine has been somewhat haphazard throughout my adult years, so consequently my facial skin is definitely showing signs of age, with some fine lines, a few heavy lines, age marks and dry areas. Added to this, I lead an outdoor lifestyle and have sensitive skin, so any moisturiser is going to have it's work cut out to improve my complexion!
I have to honest and admit that I did not actually buy this product, in case anyone wonders if I'm a thief or why I'm reviewing something I haven't bought, I'll explain that I was sent a full size sample of the product by a women's magazine to 'test drive' as part of the research for an upcoming article!
I have now been using Johnson's 24 hour facial moisturiser for several weeks and it is great! There is a slight improvement in the texture of my skin and although I don't really believe anything rubbed into the skin will reduce wrinkles, I think that they have faded a little due to the better overall condition of my skin. The moisturiser seems to be fairly long lasting, I've used around an eighth of the contents in a fortnight, which is pretty good in my opinion.
When I've finished my 'freebie' I will definitely be purchasing a replacement. It is rather refreshing to find a beauty product that does actually do what it promises to!
I would recommend this product to others, but suggest would-be buyers try a sample on their skin if at all possible, as the product is fragranced and this could irritate those with sensitive skin. That said, I have sensitive skin and it has not irritated me in the slightest..
Thank you for reading.

I love trying new products and recently when I was in Tesco with a friend she picked this daily cream up, I had recently ran out of my moisturiser at home and I decided I would buy it too.
This is a 24 hour day cream that has factor 15 in it, I think that this is quite good as it protects my face from being burnt on the very few days I ever see sunshine and also it makes this cream quite good to bring on holidays as it gives you that extra protection from the sun. This cream has quite a few nourishing ingredients including Shea butter which helps moisturise skin and also a number of other skin loving minerals. It has also been dermatologically tested and us suitable for use on sensitive skin, this is great for me as I have very sensitive skin and haven't had any trouble when using this cream.
When I first applied this cream I was really pleased with how is felt and how easy it was to apply. It feels rather soft and smoothes onto my skin really easily, it does not leave my skin really sticky and any cream that I can feel on my skin just feels really light and velvety.
I really like the way that this cream smells, it has a really subtle but fresh and clean to it and it kind of reminds me of baby powder. This smell does not really linger for that long, which is good as it would give me a sore head if the smell lingered around my face and nose.
I am really pleased with the results from this daily cream, my skin does feel lovely and soft after using it and even from the first few applications I started noticing that my skin was in great condition. This cream isn't really greasy, it soaks in rather quickly and a few minutes after application, I can't tell that it is on anymore. I think that this daily cream provides great base for make-up and apply this cream every morning. My skin is definitely much more hydrated and healthy looking since I started using this cream daily.
I picked this cream up for £3.95 in Tesco for a 50ml tub, I think that this is quite a good price for a moisturiser that works this well.
Overall I would definitely recommend this daily face cream to anyone who has sensitive skin and wants softer and silkier skin. This cream is easy to apply, gives great results and also won't break the bank. Overall I would give this cream 5 out of 5 stars.

Why and Where:
I have always suffered from dry skin all over my face, it comes in patches and leaves my skin flakey and really difficult to put makeup on- it looks awful. Looking around Tescos I saw this cream, and as it was on offer for £2 I thought I'd may as well try it.
The cream comes in a proper glass pot, like you'd expect from a much more expensive moisturiser, which instantly impressed me. Johnson's has a reputation for formulating delicate products which are gentle on sensitive skin, so I thought it would be perfect for me and I am prone to redness and the occasional rash. The cream has a very slight fragrance, it is pleasant and the kind of smell you would associate with a clean baby, not too strong but definitely there. The cream itself is not too thick but not overly thin either, quite a pleasant texture. When putting it on, the cream feels very light on skin and is absorbed almost instantly. It is cooling and goes on nicely without making skin feel greasy afterwards. A few minutes after application my skin was silky smooth and all the cream had been absorbed so I didnt look shiny. I am very impressed with the cream, especially for the very low price! You could pay more than triple the price for a cream that only works half as well. My only criticism is that you have to put quite a bit on as it is so light, but as the pot contains quite a lot and because it is so cheap this isnt really a problem. I will definitely be buying this again, and you can buy night and eye creams from the same range so I might buy these too!
Very good moisturiser for the price, is light and silky on the skin and most importantly, leaves my skin soft and not at all flakey after only a few days use! Very good product, would recommend.
One of the things most important to my skincare regime is a decent moisturiser. Being 18, almost 19, money is a bit tight so a moisturiser for me needs to not break the budget but also needs to deliver very good results. This moisturiser by Johnsons has been my preferred moisturiser for the past 4 years. Here is my review for Johnsons Daily Essentials Hydrating Day Cream for Normal Skin:
1. The Smell:
For me, as with all toiletries and skincare, this is the most important factor. This smells sweet and creamy which is pleasant, however not as good as the old formula in my opinion (when it was called 24-Hour Moisture, which is when I started using it), which was a little lighter and more gentle in its smell. Smell gets 4 stars from me.
2. The Texture & Application:
This is another important thing to me when it comes to moisturisers. Well, no-one wants a soaking wet moisturiser that falls off nor a sticky one that is really hard to apply do they? This day cream is silky smooth, though you do have to be careful when you put your finger in to take the stuff out though else you may take too much out. It is so easy to apply and smoothes your face perfectly. The smell comes out more when you apply it to your skin too. I simply LOVE the texture of this and how easy it is to apply! Texture & Application gets 5 stars from me!
3. The Result:
This is of course important. This cream leaves my skin so so silky smooth and gives it a lovely glow that stays the whole day. In my experience, this cream keeps working all day and my skin just gets softer and softer. I think the claim of moisturising your skin for 24 hours is spot on. Plus all my girlfriends comment on how good my skin smells and how soft it looks. I love the results of this cream. This is a cream for normal skin though so wouldn't have the same results for really dry skin I don't think. But for my skin (normal/combination skin that can look rather dull), this is perfect so gets 5 stars from me!
Overall, this is a top moisturiser that I will continue to use in the long-run. Even though I love to try new face creams, I ALWAYS come back to this! Price wise, this can be found for around the £4 mark which I think is superb value for the results it gives and a tub of this lasts me a good 5-6 months using it every morning.
Jhonson's has been around for years and has been predominantly aimed at looking after babies delicate skin and in my opinion they put the same care into adult creams.
This cream is for every day use and is a 24hr moisturizer which hydrates your skin beautifully and keeps my skin very soft. It is very cheap retailing in Boots for £4.07 but really good. It also offers SPF 15, which I put on before my makeup, to allow my foundation to look flawless and rub into my skin plus it prevents sunburn.
This cream gives skin a silky, soft feel and is great for all types of skin, personally my skin is rather dry normally but this cream prevents dryness and instead I have a nice hydrated feeling skin.
My skin just feels and looks very healthy even after one use. I first bough this cream at university as i always use moisturizer but had very little money so I decided to give this one a go and I am so glad that I did because I always use this now, even after getting a full time job and being able to afford my old moisturizer I would pick this one over any, due to the results. I use this cream twice a day and have seen a decrease in the dry skin I can get so I defiantly think this cream is working.
I recommend this to my friends and have got my mum hooked too. Go out and buy it, at this price you can't afford to not give it a go.
If you are familiar with my reviews you will be aware that during the Autumn of last year I found the perfect moisturising cream. However, prior to my discovery I tried various tubes and tubs in an effort to find the perfect one. As I tend to browse various supermarkets during my lunchtimes I often spend a little extra time in the beauty aisle where I scrutinise many of the products. You may be aware that I recently reviewed Johnson's cleansing lotion and it was a month or so prior to this purchase that I discovered their Hydrating 24 hour cream with SPF15 and this review discusses my experience with using the product.
APPEARANCE OF THE PRODUCT
As with the cleansing lotion, Johnson's have once again marketed this product to the female population, as it is presented to us in a light pink box with the familiar Johnson's logo situated in the upper left hand corner. We are informed in the centre of the packaging that Daily Essentials is a new range of products and that the cream is suited for normal skin. Unfortunately, at my time of purchases I had not noticed that either the cream or the cleansing lotion were suited only for normal skin and as I suffer with "T - Zone" I was initially a little apprehensive, as I suspected the product would add too much moisturise.
There is considerable information on each side of the box, which for obvious reasons I do not intend copying into this review. However, Johnson's claim that by using this cream your skin will feel soft and refreshed, as it "locks in that moisture look for 24 hours". Inside the box is a small, yet fairly heavy glass jar containing 50ml of cream with its' appearance mirroring that of the outer packaging. The pink lid is easily unscrewed to reveal a large opening, which has been foil sealed for our reassurance. Removing the foil is a simple task by way of lifting the small lip area and pulling away in one piece. Whilst the fragrance does not mirror that of the familiar Johnson's baby product that we've all grown to love, I have to say that it is extremely favourable with its' considerably delicate yet unrecognisable fresh and clean fragrance.
MY EXPERIENCE OF USING THE CREAM
As I paid only a few pounds for this product I really was not expecting a particularly high quality. I'm unsure why this was my initial impression, particularly as Johnson's have been successfully manufacturing baby products for years, which are used and loved by so many families.
The consistency of the white coloured cream was a little runnier than I had expected and resembled more of a thick lotion as opposed to a cream, but this is a positive as far as I am concerned, particularly as it enables an easy application. The cream was wonderfully cooling and refreshing when it made contact with my skin and I gently massaged a light application using a circular motion to ensure I covered all areas including my neck, which had become rather dry in some places. I was amazed at how fast absorbing it was, particularly as I had expected to witness a white and shiny face for longer than the minute or so that it took to fully absorb.
My real concerns when using new face creams are whether they will allow me to successfully apply both my mousse foundation and loose powder without that noticeable shine peering through. However, I need not have been concerned as the surface of my skin did not feel sticky or greasy and was a perfect base for my daily foundation. I have to say that the first time I applied Johnson's saw me peering in my small hand-held mirror several times during the day to ensure that there were no shine or greasy patches, but I am pleased to report that my make-up stayed perfect with me needing only to touch up my powder as I would have normally.
However, on some occasions when using this cream I would feel a little tightness in my neck area, which is something I experience when my skin becomes a little dry and dehydrated and this occurred more frequently during the colder weather. Consequently, I am of the opinion that this cream isn't tough enough for really dry skin and this is the reason why I continued my search for another moisturiser. Saying that though, I believe this cream would be suitable for use during the warmer months when our good old British weather isn't as extreme as it was recently, as it definitely left the remainder of my skin feeling soft, smooth and moisturised. As the cream contains SPF15 you have the assurance that your skin is protected, but this is obviously an area that I am unable to evidence. Whilst this cream is marketed as 24-hour I cannot comments on this claim, as I have never left my face for this length of time without washing and I always reapply prior to getting into bed.
Whilst I feel I can recommend this cream to you, I wouldn't suggest you use it when we are experiencing extremely cold and harsh weather and as I am writing this review it is blowing a gale outside and the rain is lashing against the window! However, fortunately the temperatures are not as excessive as they were a month or so ago. As I have since found the perfect product, which adequately protects my skin during the cold winter months (which I have previously reviewed) I am keeping the remaining half jar of Johnson's for use during the spring. In my experience of using this cream I would guess that with using twice a day, the entire jar is likely to last for at least a few months. Whilst I cannot identify the gorgeous subtle fragrance of this cream, in my opinion it is suited to both sexes.
The product has been dermatologically tested and can be used in sensitive skin. I can confirm that I suffered no adverse effects when using this cream, so it is my opinion very soft, gentle and caring. The cream should be used within 12 months of opening and the jar together with the outer packaging can be recycled once empty.
As there is a very lengthy list of ingredients presented to us on the underside of the both, for obvious reasons I do not intend copying them into this review.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
To provide you with an up to date price I have checked the Tesco website and can advise that at the time of writing ( February 2011) you can purchase a 50ml jar of Johnson's Face Care Daily Essentials Hydrating 24 hour Day Cream for £4.07.
I pondered for a while before rating this product, particularly as it wasn't quite effective enough for me during the cold winter months yet I am of the opinion that it will be perfect during the not so extreme weather. Consequently, I have removed one star and this product receives 4 stars from me.
I hope you found my review useful and would thank you for reading.
This review will also appear on Ciao under the same user name.
When I leave my skin to get on with its own thing and don't use any lotions or potions, I can get a few dry patches of skin, especially on my face. As a result, if I want to avoid looking like Mr. Blobby, a good moisturiser is something I can never do without.
My moisturiser of choice is the Johnson's Daily Essentials Hydrating 24Hour Day Cream, with SPF15. I use the cream for normal skin, although it is also available for dry skin. Each 50ml pot retails for £3.99 from Boots, but there is currently a promotion where you can buy 2 for £4. 1p extra for a whole extra pot of moisturiser......? Excuse me while I rush off to stock up!
I don't recall what initially attracted me to this product, as I've been using it for several years and just picked it up on one of my trips to Tesco. I've been using it ever since!
For £3.99 you may expect to get a slightly bigger pot than the tiny 50ml affair you will find inside the box - at first I remember thinking I'd been ripped off! However, the pot feels good quality and sturdy, and will look simple yet smart on your dressing table.
The screw-off lid leaves a wide opening, which makes it easy to get ever last bit of the cream out. No wastage means you definitely get your money's worth. In addition, you only have to use very little each time, so a pot can last me several months, making it very good value for money.
I only need to use a tiny bit of cream to cover my whole face, and it sinks into the skin within seconds. It doesn't feel greasy or tacky at all, yet doesn't feel like it's been absorbed away to leave your skin dry again. The moisturiser will leave you with dewy, fresh-looking skin, but I've never found that it looks greasy at all.
The biggest benefit of this moisturiser is how it leaves your skin feeling so soft and smooth. From the moment it is rubbed in, you will notice that your skin is left feeling softer and more supple than before. What's more, this feeling isn't short-lived. I use this moisturiser twice a day - once in the morning and once before I go to bed. When I moisturise in the morning, by the time I go to bed my skin doesn't feel like I need any more at all - it feels just as smooth as when I first apply the cream. However, I apply it anyway, just to keep any dryness at bay. Even with this, I don't get any excessive build-up of cream, and as I mentioned before, my skin never feels greasy.
The moisturiser has a very pleasant smell to it - it smells like roses if you ask me! I'm not sure it's entirely natural, a hunch which the ingredients list seems to back up! Nevertheless, the aroma is very pleasant and is similar to that of the Johnson's facial cleansing wipes which I have previously reviewed. The smell isn't strong and doesn't linger at all, which I quite like as I can use some of my perfumes, but I know some of you like to be able to smell your moisturisers all day long.
I mentioned the Johnson's facial wipes, as previously reviewed. If you use these together with this moisturiser as part of your skincare routine, they complement each other perfectly and really help to keep your skin feeling even softer and smoother than before.
The only thing I'm not sure about with this moisturiser is the Sun Protection Factor it has. This is not something which I specifically want in a moisturiser, as I feel that if I need to protect my face from the sun I'll slap on some suncream. Furthermore, with an SPF of just 15, it's not particularly strong. I can't really comment on its effectiveness, because during the few days of sun we get throughout the year, although I have never been burnt on my face, you can certainly see when my nose, cheeks and forehead are touched by the sun. It may provide a certain amount of protection, but not enough if you want to spend all day in the sun.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this moisturiser. I think that for the price, you can't get much better - even for the top-of-the-range, designer products, I don't think you'd find anything which was much more effective, so why pay so much more? I'm not going to knock any stars off for anything to do with the moisturiser's SPF rating, as it's not something I've really tested in any way scientifically. As a result, I'll give it 5stars for a top-notch moisturiser!
