Advantages: Packaging is very cute and girly

Disadvantages: Left my skin blotchy and hive-like - high RRP

When it comes to face washes I don't tend to stick to one brand and like to shop around for little bargains - this being on a budget and the fact that I have yet to find the perfect face wash for my sometimes problematic skin.

I spotted this Johnsons Daily Essentials Gel wash about 3 months ago on the reduced shelf in the Tesco H&B aisle for just £1.57 for 150ml - I had never tried any Johnsons products as a facewash before but I believed the product was going to be great due to the fact that Johnsons are well known for providing great skin care products for babys and young children - which I used on my own daughter when she was young - so by past experiance my expectations in this face wash was sky high. I also liked the fact that I was trying out an oil gel face wash as opposed to my normal foaming product.

The tube the gel comes in is very attractive in itself as its PINK with a matching darker coloured lid. At the top of the tube it is not transparent but as you look down the tube towards the bottom the tube becomes more see through which shows the oil gel inside - containing the tiny pink microbeads. The tube stands on top of the lid which can be easily popped open using your index finger and in my opinion very secure and less likely to cause a mess if it needed transported ie. in a toiletry bag.

The back label goes on to tell you that Johnsons have a range of other products in the daily essentials range to give you gentle and effective skincare. The gel is also said to be packed with skin loving vitamins and minerals which gently lifts away the impurities leaving the skin clean and feeling soft and revitalised.

The way you use the gel is simple, it cannot go wrong - simply lather some gel into your hands, you then massage into your face and rinse. You can then use the Daily Essentials Oil Balancing Day Fluid after use.

The gel itself is quite runny and moves freely inside the tube and on to your skin - the little pink beads that appear in the gel also absorb with the gel into your skin with ease leaving no trace when your skin is rinsed.

My Verdict

To me, the attractive girly pink packaging is where my love for this product ends. I am very dissapointed with Johnsons and can honestly say to date this is the only product from them I have really hated. The reason it didn't work for me is due to the fact that it left my face feeling tight and uncomfortable after use and the gel actually caused some sort of reaction with red blotches about 20 minutes after it had been washed off.

Since the one and only time I have used it, it has sat in my bathroom in a drawer with other products I have purchased and not liked. I don't see the point throwing it away because if a friend stays over one night and needs a face wash to use in the morning it may be beneficial for them to use... But I will not be touching this again as I still have the memory of the first occasion...

At the time of writing this review you can buy this gel wash from Tesco at £3.05 - and I understand completely why they had reduced this product if it doesn't agree with other peoples skin just like it did to mine!

Summary: This stuff for some reason does not agree with my skin...
