I think we all know Johnson and Johnson as a brand they are most well known for their baby products, this is one of their products aimed toward us adults.
I have used this product on and off for a few years now, I think it was really one of the first products on the market that produced a moisturiser that contained fake tanning abilities. As someone who spent many years as a teen trying out fake tan after fake tan and being streaky and patchy on many occasions this product really appealed to me to help with my skins impression of casper the friendly ghost.
THE PACKING ....
The product comes in a bright yellow plastic bottle that really does shout summer when you look at it! The lid to the container is a simple flip lid located on the top of the bottle.
SIZE AND PRICE ....
The current price this is going for in Boots is £5.25 for a 250ML bottle
THE PRODUCT ....
The lotion comes in two different colours, a fair to medium and medium to dark. The one I own is the fair to medium as they do not sell casper to fair! The cream is white in colour but a little thick and tacky for my liking when I try and rub it into my skin. If this was just a plain moisturiser I would have moved on to another brand! It does not soak in fast on me and because it needs to be soaked in before you put on clothing I find it a pain to use. However my mum also uses is and as she has dry skin it soaks in fast with her so I guess this depends on your skin type! The product has a scent that I really do not know what to describe it as, it is meant to be fresh and subtle but it really is not. It's pretty strong and people seem to love or hate it, however it does not last long so its not really something I concern myself with.
The idea of the product is that you use this in place of your moisturiser daily and the mild self tanning products slowly build up a natural but faint tan colour with no streaks.
I find the moisturiser works perfectly fine so it is suitable as a replacement for my skin type and the tan does indeed show up non streaky but I find it leaves my skin with an odd build up after a few days.
TO USE ....
To use as you would a moisturiser, use the hand and rub evenly into the skin however once on the skin it is advised that you do not go near any clothing or surfaces until it is soaked in to avoid transfer, streaks or staining. The tan should slowly show after several days use.
Before my big birthday night out I decided to buy some more fake tan because my legs looked like a ghost and Im saving my bottle of St Tropez for the summer when I really need it. Anyway I picked up a bottle of this in Poundland a few weeks back because I had not long ran out of the normal Johnsons Holiday Skin lotion but to be honest I didnt exactly have high hopes for this. The reason for that is Ive found the Johnsons tan range to be very hit and miss, sometimes it works really well and I get a really even tan but then other times Im left with patchy, orange legs so Im very undecisive about this range.
Anyway that night I decided to try this out before I went to bed and see what happened to my skin by the morning. And I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the results. After just one application my skin definately had a sun kissed glow to it and had a slight tanned colour. Very impressive in my opinion. Not only does this give you a really even tan (if you apply it properly!!) but it moisturises your skin at the same time which most fake tan doesnt do so I guess your getting a double hit with this product. To be honest though I cant see the difference between this and the ordinary Johnsons tan it delivers the exact same results in my opinion.
When it comes to applying this I strongly recommend that you exfoliate first because otherwise it will go really streaky and no-one wants a streaky tan & wash you hand afterwards!! But I tend to apply this every other day because the colour takes on my skin overnight and I dont want my skin to be too dark. But I did have a slight problem with this tan that bought the whole product down for me...
THE SMELL! It smells absolutely disgusting. And the scent sticks around until you have a shower the next morning but until then it really does smell vile - possibly the worst fake tan smell in my experience. It sort of smells like stale sweat mixed with curry and I dont feel comfortable going out with this on when I can smell it - I feel like everyone else can smell it to. I have to knock of at least two stars for that because the scent is f**king diabolical!
Overall this is a decent enough product for the price. You get a great, sun kissed tan but you smell like you havent showered in weeks so its definately not the best fake tan out there. I recommend if you dont mind the smell.

Johnson's Holiday Skin Night Lotion
Description: Johnson's / Moisturiser with self-tanning.
This is basically a moisturising cream with an added self tanning agent, allowing a gentle sunkissed glow to be built up over time. This is the night cream, so be careful not to apply it and then get into white sheets, just in case it stains. Our bedding is light blue and we have never noticed any marks but better to be safe than sorry.
This product normally retails at around £6/£7 but can often be picked up from your local Poundland. In fact, Mrs Assasin recently came back delightedly clutching 6 bottles, having got them on a buy one get one free offer there. So, if you are planning to try this product, then perhaps try there first, to see if you can pick it up cheaply.
As with all self tanning products, it is always best to exfoliate first, to ensure that coverage is as even as possible. Because this is a moisturiser, it goes on a lot more evenly than some self tan products and is less likely to look orange or streaky.
Unlike some self tan products which can sometimes smell unpleasant (like curry sauce, which is great with rice but you wouldn't want your skin to smell of it!), this one has a light fragrance which isn't offensive. And this means that you can wear it during the day too, if you wish to.
I find it best to use this over a few days and then have a break for a few days, remembering to exfoliate in between uses. This allows you to build up a gorgeous, natural looking glow, at any time of the year.
When it comes to fake tan I do dabble with it from time to time. I'm naturally very pale skinned and to be honest I've had some disasters over the past few years but when I saw this for about £5.49 a bottle in Boots I decided to give it a go as the brand of Johnson's is one I trust and I liked the idea of applying this at night and letting it do it's stuff whilst I sleep!
Bright yellow 250ml flattish bottle with a flip top lid to the top of it concealing a small hole. On the front label I'm told in navy writing that it is Johnson's Holiday Skin Body Lotion 'Night' which gives intense moisturisation overnight and gradually builds a beautiful, light tan and that it's for all skin types and the size is stated (as I've listed already). On the back label other information includes being told a bit about the product and directions for use, ingredients are listed and contact details for Johnson & Johnson are given.
A Bit About The Product According To The Back Of The Bottle:
Johnson's Holiday Skin Night body Lotion works while you sleep to gently help your skin recover the natural glow and softness of your summer holidays. Our best body lotion now blends extra moisturisers with a drop of gentle tanning ingredient, so it intensely moisturises your skin overnight and gradually builds a beautiful light tan. Tan will develop after a few nights of use. For best results apply every evening. Your healthy glow will be maintained with continued daily usage.
Directions For Use:
Smooth evenly onto skin until dry to the touch. Avoid contact with clothes and other fabrics until lotion is full absorbed. Wash hands well after use.
Well I've used this a few times and if your sensible with it you can get really good results with it. Personally I apply it to dry, clean skin. I always exfoliate a little just to get any tanning type product to go on my skin smoothly and evenly first.
The lotion itself is not too runny but it is a lotion and not a stiff cream. It is pure white, a little glossy and has a light and lovely fruity smell to it and is rally nice fragrance wise for a product such as this. The first time I used this I didn't use any gloves (as it isn't directed too and none are supplied) and I simply applied it and washed my hands afterwards and all the lotion stained my fingers, particularly under my nails so if I use this I use my own plastic gloves now (so watch out for that!).
So applying this is really very easy. Although I haven't found this to stain my nightclothes or bedding I can't say don't watch out for that. if worried choose to wear stuff your not worried about and bedding to sleep in/on that doesn't matter too much (just in case).
All you need is a small amount. Personally I work from my feet upwards and although I can't see immediately any colour where I've applied it to I can feel it's moistness. By that I mean it absorbs quickly but it is quite moisturising in a none greasy way. Once it's on, which is simply a breeze to apply and it goes on really evenly it dries within a few minutes but leaves skin feeling soft and supple.
However I applied this (again the first time), woke up and smelt terrible. Really musty but in the morning I had a very delicate hint of colour on my skin that looked natural and really was very subtle indeed but apparent and I couldn't wait to have a shower and rinse the smell off which I did and the colour completely stayed put and that colour stayed put and the skin felt natural for a couple of days till it simply rinsed off but at least it did that evenly. So the results I was pleased with, my bedding etc wasn't ruined at all, skin felt in good condition, colour was great..apart from the smell which rinsed off with ease I was really pleased with this product.
However the next time I used it I got greedy! I applied it early evening, it developed in a couple of hours and I thought hmm I'll do another coat. I went to sleep and woke up bright orange and sticky!
After that I decided to use it nightly and the colour built up too strong on me after two applications so how you use this really does depend on your natural skin-tone. If you have a slight colour to your skin you'll probably be able to use this nightly as directed but for me I can only use this once a week or I get a dark build up that looks really unnatural!
I do actually like this and using it seems to just be a trial and error experience really but once you get used to it, it's fabulous. Though using this I achieve a really natural hint of colour which takes the harshness of my Goth like skin tone!
Available in all good supermarkets and chemists etc.
