La Roche-Posay Hydraphase Intense Rich
Advantages: Hydrating and leaves skin soft and moisturised.
Disadvantages: Quite expensive and not available everywhere.
Winter is a challenge for dehydrated skin and with central heating and drying winds many people find their skin becomes less moist in the colder months, and although I have normal skin it certainly requires more care at this time of the year. It is about now that I always start to use one of my favourite intense moisturising products that include the La Roche-Posay Hydraphase Intense Rich Intensive Rehydrating Skincare. It has a long name which personally I find difficult to remember, but I always recognise it on the shelf as it has a pale blue container and which defines many of the products in this range known as Hydraphase which are designed to help dehydrated skin types.
Until fairly recently these type of products were only available from French pharmacies, but as time has gone on they have become more popular and can now be found in larger branches of Boots stores and online from companies such as Escentual.com.
The cream has several properties that are defined on the website at www.laroche-posay.co.uk. The first being that the product hydrates the skin to 99% and even after 8 hours claims to still be providing 48%. It does this by the fact that it contains Hyaluronic Acid fragments that instil hydration and facilitate long lasting water retention. The cream can be used twice a day so is ideal to use just before the application of make-up.
What I love about this cream is that it is a lovely light fresh scent- not too floral and that it absorbs easily into the skin but doesn't leave a greasy residue. I find that it plumps up my skin and imparts moisture which makes the application of make-up so easy and effortless. It also continues to supply moisture throughout the day and it makes my skin appear to have a more dewy youthful appearance. As I am now almost 53 I am trying to preserve this dewy moist look to my skin and this is a great asset to me where this is concerned.
The price of this product varies depending on the offers available at the time. I tend to purchase mine from Escentual.com as I have been very impressed with the quick delivery and excellent service, and also their association with cash-back sites helps to cut the cost. Currently 50mls is retailing for £14 there which may seem quite steep, but this will last a long time as you only need a very small amount each time you use it. It is available on Amazon but the price is higher as many of the marketplace sellers are operating out of France so have higher postal charges.
The product is very suitable for sensitive skin as well, which I do not have, but I can say that the cream is very lightweight to apply and my skin always feels very comfortable after application. I always take this with me when I travel to The Outer Hebrides where I am a regular visitor as here the wind can be very strong, and also the drying aspects of whatever mode of transport chosen be it plane or car is also very dehydrating.
In many aspects this cream is similar to the one made by Bioderma -the Bioderma Hydrabio Rich Cream which is recommended by Lisa Eldridge in her fantastic YouTube presentation on products she uses to treat her skin on long haul flights. The La Roche- Posay cream is easier to purchase in the UK and less expensive, and in my opinion a fantastic alternative as I have tried both and would say on reflection that I actually prefer the La Roche product as on my skin it seems to be more moisturising. The wonderful thing about this cream is that it contains no parabens which makes it even more appealing than the Bioderma to me which does as I like to avoid these chemicals as much as possible.
I also love this cream for holidays and find it to be great to apply in the evening. As it has no SPF it is not designed for use in sunny weather during the day - they have other products in this range designed for this.
The product is supplied with a pump dispenser which makes it easy to use and hygienic too, and is easy to transport as it has a plastic cap that fits over the pump dispenser.
I always like to check the reviews over at Make-up Alley. If you are new to this fantastic website take a look because here there are reviews of almost every type of make-up or skincare product. Furthermore ladies over there are very discerning and don't mark products highly without them having brilliant qualities. As the site is based in the US the population is greater so there are many reviews of each product making a very accurate picture of reality with believable statistics. This product scores 4.5 out of 5 with 61% saying they would repurchase. Also the packaging scores 4.6 out of 5 which reflects its high quality and hygienic properties.
I think if you have dry skin during the winter this is a fantastic product to try, and especially if you have any sort of skin sensitivity this would be a good choice. I think it is especially good for ladies of a maturing age as this really imparts a lovely healthy moisturised appearance and a dewy more youthful look. It leaves skin feeling so soft and lovely. Highly recommended.
Summary: A beautiful cream for dehydrated skin.
