==Price and Availability==
I find it difficult to pass a Lush store without going in and buying myself something; as a result of this I have tried lots of different product from Lush. One set of products I seem to buy on a regular basis are Lush's face masks, I first bought the Catastrophe Cosmetic Face Mask five or six years ago now and it's something I've gone back to many times. The cost of this mask is £5.95 for a 75g tub, although this is quite a big initial outlay I usually find a tub lasts me 4 or 5 masks so the price doesn't work out much more expensive than buying the usual face masks in sachets.
==Catastrophe Cosmetic Fresh Face Mask==
This mask comes in a 75g black tub as all the Lush Fresh Face Masks do, Lush have had a long running promotion that if you take back five clean empty tubs you get a free face mask which makes it a little cheaper. These masks are fresh they need to be kept in the fridge and used within three weeks of buying them. Catastrophe Cosmetic is said to be a calming and moisturising mask with blueberries, calamine and camomile, rose and almond oils to soothe and soften the skin. The mask should be applied to clean skin in a generous layer and left on for 10 to 15 minutes before washing off with warm water.
The mask is very thick which doesn't make it the easiest to apply; I usually find this with Lush's masks though. I find the trick is to remove the mask from the fridge a little while before you want to use it. The mask has a grey/ lilac colour and has a very fruity, sweet scent with a hint of citrus to it which I love. I find the masks dries quite quickly, I usually find 10 minutes is plenty long enough for this mask to me on as it goes really quite hard. I find if it's left too long it starts to flake off a bit and the bits go everywhere so I try to avoid this. As the mask is quite thick it's quite difficult to remove, I use a flannel as I find it makes less mess, it still takes a little time though to remove the entire mask. After using the mask my skin looks and feels really refreshed and cleansed, it's also left feeling really soft. Thankfully I don't suffer with spots that often anymore but when I was younger this mask was a lifesaver for me, it really calms the skin down and helps get rid of spots and stops breakouts.
Although I use lots of different Lush face masks Catastrophe Cosmetic is one that I've kept coming back to over the years. It leaves skin feeling lovely and clean and has really helped get rid of spots whenever I've been suffering with them. The smell of the mask is lovely which makes it a pleasure to use, even if it is a little thick and hard to apply straight from the fridge!
I recently took five clean pots back to Lush and got a free facemask as part of their recycling deal. The sales lady pounced on me, but it was helpful as I wasn't sure what to buy for my skin as it's fairly normal and most of the masks seemed to be solving a particular problem. Whilst I got mine for free, the usual cost of this product is £5.95
This mask comes in a small pot and it's a blue/purple colour, which isn't surprising given that the main ingredient is blueberries! It also contains calamine and chamomile, rose, and almond oils so all very soothing and calming ingredients.
Now my pot had separated, so there there was a thick product on the bottom and a layer of blue water on top. Nothing a quick mix up with my index finger couldn't sort out but it was a bit of a shame that it had gone like that (I had kept it in the fridge as required)
The product is lovely and thick and similar in consistency to other Lush facemasks. It goes on lovely and thick and the smell is neither nice or offensive, it's slightly fruity. There are some 'lumpy' bits in it but that doesn't bother me. I apply to my whole face, avoiding my eyes and lips and the area above my lips as personally I find my skin there to be very sensitive. It is advised to leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes before washing off with warm water. It's comfortable to use and you look a bit crazy with your blue face, but it doesn't dry and get uncomfortable. I usually splash off with water and then use a makeup remover wipe to remove the rest and apply some moisturiser.
After use, my skin feels lovely and soft and really cleansed deep down. I've never had any adverse reaction and it's a nice little product. Other reviewers say it's good for spots but I can't answer this as my skin is clear at the moment.
I probably wouldn't buy this full price - it's expensive although it makes my skin lovely and soft it's an above average product. I see face masks as a luxury so at this stage in my life this product is only for me when it's free!
I had read a lot about this facemask on blogs and heard it mentioned on twitter countless times so when my skin decided it was going to throw a strop I just had to get it.
The Catastrophe Cosmetic facemask is made from blueberries, chamomile and chamomile to aid problematic skin. The blueberries act as an antioxidant, the chamomile oil and rose absolute help to reduce redness and irritation. This was exactly what I needed!
If you have used lush face mask before you will know that they are all made fresh. This one in particular needs to be stored in the fridge. Personally I really like the fact that the face mask are fresh and use natural ingredients as it saves from putting any more nasties on my face when I am already breaking out. Being kept in the fridge also means that the mask has a really nice cooling sensation when it applied to your skin.
The mask smells quite nice and makes me feel relaxed, this is the chamomile taking effect. I really like the blend of the blueberry and chamomile as it is lovely and light and not too over powering. It feels gentle on my skin and you can feel it working its magic almost instantly. The mask takes 10-15 minutes to harden, any excuse for a little 'me' time where I can just sit and close my eyes or have a bit of a read.
When the mask has hardened it washes off easily leaving my skin feeling soft and looking cleansed and bright. In terms of how it affects my problem areas it is a miracle worker. The next day my skin is clearer and spots look less angry!
You can get this in lush stores priced at £5.95 for a 75g tub. I have found that a tub usually does around 4 masks. I know this is not the cheapest face mask on the market but it is definitely worth it. Lush also back recycling so when you return 5 pots to them you can get a free face mask!
I cannot recommend this face mask enough. At those certain times of the month when your skin just doesn't want to play ball this is a life saver.
My skin is not in an awful condition but as I wear a lot of make up and have an oily complexion, I can tend to get a dreaded blemish now and again. This isn't the end of the world and sometimes I am the only one who notices but it still makes me panic. I decided to give the Catastrophe Cosmetic Face Mask by Lush a go which promises to stop me from making a mountain out of a mole hill.
What does the product do?
The product is essentially a facial mask packed full of natural ingredients which promises to leave your skin soft, clear and hydrated. It claims that it will deeply cleanse the skin to prevent blemishes leaving you with a clear and radiant complexion. It contains Irish Moss to soften the skin and it is packed full of blueberries to nourish and protect the skin. Almond oil is included to hydrate the skin and to leave supple while chamomile calms and soothes the skin. Orange oil helps to tone the skin and glycerin hydrates the skin and then allows the skin to hold onto the moisture.
How do you use the product?
You need to cleanse the skin before you use the product so that the ingredients can really get to work on your face. You need to smooth a generous amount over your whole face, avoiding the eye and mouth area, and then leave the mask to get to work for ten minutes. You shouldn't let the mask dry completely and once the time is up you can rinse away the product and remove the excess with a damp flannel. You can then follow it up with a good moisturiser.
Packaging and Price
The product comes contained within the standard Lush black plastic packaging which has a little writing about the product on the label. It has an open mouth and the lid can be pulled on and off. Due to the packaging it is easy to control exactly how much of the product you want to use so none will go to waste. It will cost you around £6 for 75 grams of this mask and it can be bought from your local Lush store and also from their online website.
Aroma and Appearance
The aroma of this product is gorgeous and you can detect a lot of the ingredients within the mask. The main aroma is that of the blueberries and it is fruity and sweet but you can also smell a touch the orange oil and the calming chamomile. It is relaxing and enjoyable which is a good job as you can smell it strongly the whole time that your product is on your face. The product looks purple/blue in the pot and you can see lots of bits in there. When on the face the colour appears more grey.
Application and Performance
The mask comes in the form of a thick paste. It is easy to scoop from the jar but it is a little difficult to spread on the face. It sticks well but it doesn't glide over the skin and I've found it easily to spread it on a little bit at a time so it is quite time consuming to apply the mask. You can feel the bits in the mask as you rub it on and while it doesn't hurt or irritate my skin, it's not as smooth to apply as other facial masks that I've tried. Once the product is on, you can't really feel it doing anything. You can smell the lovely aroma strongly but it doesn't tingle or sting on the skin and it is completely comfortable to wear. You do look silly while wearing the mask so you'll need to remember not to answer the front door!
After a while the mask starts to dry and crack and I found myself removing it before the full ten minutes as the instructions tell you not to let it dry. The product is fairly easy to remove with a flannel and it doesn't leave to much of a mess in the sink. Once it was off, I definitely felt like I need to use a moisturiser. It didn't leave my skin feeling very hydrated. It did a great job of cleansing my skin those and it feel really fresh and clean. My skin felt soft after use and after a few uses, I was still blemish free. As I said though I don't get blemishes all the time so I may not have got any even if I hadn't used it. It reduced the redness of my skin and it did feel soothed and refreshed. My skin also looked a bit brighter after use and my complexion looked healthier.
All in all, this is a lovely mask that is packed full of natural goodness. It made my skin soft and cleansed it deeply leaving my face feeling fresh. It smells delicious and has helped to keep my skin clear. This is not a life changing mask and it doesn't seem to do that much for my skin but it didn't cause any problems either. I want to see more results from a face mask so although it improved my complexion a bit, I probably wouldn't repurchase this one.
Catastrophe Cosmetic Mask - Lush
If you take five empty balck pots you can get one of these FREE. I also got mine free but I made it myself. This was a recent offer that Lush working with Clipper tea made available. If you bought a pack of Clipper green tea with a pink tag on it then you could book a FREE make your own face mask and have a facial in the shop nearest you. I was so thrilled that I bought four packs. I went by myself one day then went a second time a couple of weeks later with my son's girl friend. I also sent a tag to my daughter in London and she went to one event near her in the evening.
THE FACE PACKS GENERALLY
In the shop the various facemasks are in big stainless steel bowls on ice and presented with fresh items that are in the actual facemask as garnish; So this one had a fresh blue berries on it as garnish. The face packs are made fresh and sent up to the Derby shop each week from the factory in Dorset .
As these are made with fresh ingredients they have a limited life and must be stored in the fridge. I have once had two face packs as I was given one in the shop and because we were just about to go on holiday I stuck it in the freezer. We were away about four weeks and when I returned I retrieved my facepack and it was absolutely fine, it lasted another six weeks in the fridge and smelled great and I used it once a week for the six weeks. So don't worry too much about the keeping aspect as they do last a fair time if kept in the fridge and used with clean fingers or a spoon to get the stuff out.
SO MAKING OUR FACE MASK
This required squashing and mashing fresh blueberries, a whole punnet went into ours; we then added all the rest of the liquid ingredients which were cold pressed almond oil, a glycerine which was so pure you could actually taste it ( very strange sort of sweet taste) then we added an infusion of various flowers and Irish moss gel which smelt like sea water but I didn't taste it and then in went a small amount of the essential oils and perfume to give the scent and the benefits from the ones like rose absolute, chamomile and orange oil. Finally we added the dry ingredients which were calamine powder and a really fine talc that felt like silk when we felt it as it was going in. All this time we mixed it well to combine all the ingredients.
Once it was all mixed We then left it to blend together and the two lovely ladies gave us our facial.
THE FACIAL EXPERIENCE
We were asked how we wanted our skin to feel after the pampering and what it felt like now and this information was used to select the products for our facial.
We started by having our faces cleansed and the cleanser chosen for me was 'Ultra bland' which is just so rich and creamy, this was then followed by a facial wash and the one chosen for me was 'Angels on bare Skin' but i did try different ones on my next visit! After this we enjoyed a fabulous face massage using 'Full of Grace ' serum bar. Our fresh face mask was then applied and we sat for around five minutes before this was washed off.
After washing off the mask a toner was then applied and the one chosen for me was 'Breath of fresh Air' as I already had 'Eau Roma ' at home wanted to try a different one. We were finished off with a moisturiser suited to our skin at the time and I had 'Skin Shangri La' .
Having been pampered for around an hour these lovely people then packed up our face mask in pots so we ended up with a medium sized pot of that as well as sample sizes of all the other products that we had used in our facial except the serum bar which I did buy as I have had it before and liked it.
So not only did we have a free facial and a big pot of thye mask we made but we also had a bag full of other samples as well. Our session was finished off with a squirt of perfume from the selection they have in Lush.
WHAT YOU NORMALLY GET
It comes in a small back recyclable pot and you get 75g in the pot. The cost if you buy it is £5.75 which is quite expensive but I don't think I have bought one for quite a while as I have had free ones through bringing back my black pots.
This facepack is a dark blue or even pink colour depending on the colour the uice of the blueberries comes out. One was much bluer than the other of my two pots. The main colour is a creamy blueish pink but you can clearly see the blueberry skins in the mix and these are left in as they are so good for you.
It is very thick rather like a paste, thick mud texture and not at all runny. In fact ours was getting so thick and dry that we added some water to the mix and you can do this at home if yours gets too dry to spread. It makes it go further too.
What does it smell like? Well it isn't a strong scent but i can smell sweet fruitiness and the rose and it is specially obvious when you apply it and have it under your nose for a while. It feels lovely and creamy soft apart from the blueberry skins which tend to drop off as you apply the mask.
WHAT DO YOU DO WITH IT?
Well More or less I follow what we did or had done in the Lush facila, cleanse then you can use the face wash or just wipe it off with warm water, apply the lovely serum bar and you don't need much at all. Apply the mask.
This is the best part. I get into the bath and lie back and relax and finally wash it off in the bath as it is less messy. You could do it whilst having a shower too. According to Lush you shouldn't let it go completely dry and crusty before washing it off but I leave mine until I feel it has done its job. If it does get dry then it doesn't matter as I can use lots of water to gently wash it off.
Once you have washed the mask off it is essential to close the pores with a toner otherwise all those nicely opened pores will be ready to absorb any muck in the environment.
After toning then apply whatever moisturiser you feel your skin needs and then make up if you want to.
Prior to washing this one off though I make use of the lovely ground almonds in the facepack and give my face a bit of an exfoliation as I take the mask off.
I then get out of the bath and dry myself patting my face dry before I reach for the toner to close those pores and then of course moisturise as for night or day depending on when you use it.
WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE?
As I lie in the bath I can feel the coolness of the mask, remember it comes straight from the fridge, and it feels quite pleasant, not at all tight even as it dries a little. I find if I am in the bath the steam helps the mask work and stops it drying out so quickly. I really relax and lie back and sniff. I love the fact this one is so gentle and because it has the almond oil in it my face never feels dry after using it; afterwards I find my skin feels very soft and looks awake.
We were told that the reason they made this face mask when doing this event was that this mask is suitable for all ages and skin types. The fact that it has almond oil in does not make it unsuitable for those with greasy skin as this oil helps balance the oil production in skin.
I have quite a sensitive skin and am allergic to many cosmetic chemicals but this has not given me any problems and I have my pot every third day for the last three weeks
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
The ingredients in this are supposed to balance your skin and calm it. The Irish moss softens the skin, the almond oil moisturises it and the blueberries are full of anti oxidants and vitamins good for skin brightness. The rose absolute and chamomile essential oil help to any reduce redness and any skin irritation. The dry ingredients of Calamine and talc do a great deep clean of the pores and also help to soothe the skin as well.
According to Lush website this :
"Stops you making a mountain out of a molehill
"This is a deep cleansing mask that it designed for regular maintenance to keep the skin clean and clear. Regular deep cleaning can avoid spots occurring and keep skin in top condition."
I usually give myself this treat each week on a Monday morning as my husband goes off to play golf early in the morning so I have time to myself to pamper in the bathroom. It is good to have time to rinse out the bath too after using this as of course there are gritty bits left. However since i have had such a huge supply of this I have used it three times a week and my skin does feel nice because of this.
I do find that my face feels not only really clean and fresh but also the gentle almond oil and other ingredients do make my face feel well nourished afterwards . My skin feels soft and healthy and after a quick spritz of a toner I only need a light moisturiser to finish.
WOULD I RECOMMEND?
Yes I love this one as I know exactly what went into it as I was there making it and although it doesn't smell that strong it is very pleasant. It does make my skin feel well pampered and calm so I am happy. I am especially happy as it was free and part of my wonderful morning at lush although it does cost £5.75 if you don't have five pots to hand back. This is still quite good value as easily get six uses from this little pot as you don't need to cake it on thickly and if you use my trick of wet hands it goes on really smoothly.
Thanks for reading. This review may be posted on other sites under my same user name.
Today I am reviewing the fresh face mask from LUSH called Catastrophe Cosmetic. This is the second face mask I have tried from LUSH (the first being Cupcake) and it literally has done miracles for my skin.
-- Why I got this Mask --
I have had some terrible issues with my skin, I have been to dermatoligists who have prescribed me stuff but my skin has still not been quite brilliant. It was good at first but then gradually my skin started to get whiteheads and blackheads all over my face and I realised I must have had an allergic reaction to the product, and the worst thing was it couldn't be covered by makeup. So I was looking for something to help my skin so I got this fresh face mask from LUSH.
-- What they Say --
Fresh blueberries are full of vitamins and minerals and are anitoxidant. Rose absolute and chamomile essential oil will reduce redness and irritation. Calamine and talc will deep clean and soothe the skin at the same time.
Combined together they provide your skin with a good deep cleanse without causing puffiness - leaving the face cool, clear and calm.
-- My Experience --
So I put this on my skin and the texture is very soft, very creamy and feels really nice, even when it has set on your skin. It smells very nice, like blueberries but not too strong, it's quite subtle but it is still there. It feels really nice when you rinse it off as your face has been set in the same position for 15 minutes !! Joking aside it is easy to rinse off and it is nice and creamy so it does feel nice too. Be careful that it does not block your drain though !
my skin is left feeling really moisturised and calmed down. It is not irritated by the facemask at all which I like. The scent is also left lingering on the skin too.
But what is really amazing is, if you put it on at night and then wash it off with warm water, yes your skin feels lovely then but if you go to sleep then you will wake up in the morning and not believe the reflection in the mirror. Seemingly overnight, any imperfections will grow smaller and smaller until they disappear !! My skin felt smooth and healthy !! I was so impressed and happy ! I really recommend this mask.
Because this mask has such a short shelf life then if you want and have some horrible imperfections then you could use it daily on the area you need to, to get rid of them.
This is a magical mask that worked wonders on my skin and I really recommend it for you !!
Catastrophe Cosmetic is a fresh face mask made by Lush. The face mask contains only vegan friendly, completely natural ingredients and is designed specifically to leave skin clean and clear. I personally think that this is the kind of face mask that once you try it, you fall in love and can't help but repurchase it regulary, it's a very unique smelling product and works wonders and i've been a big fan for around six months now! I always think of it as 'the blueberry one' due to the smell and ingredients, and I think that they should of reflected this in the name as I think Catastrophe Cosmetic is a bit of a random name lol, but this doesn't effect my opinion of the product in the slightest! On a quick side note, because this is a fresh face mask with no preservatives, it has a use by date of three weeks and should be stored in the fridge to keep it fresh, plus it's gorgeously refreshing when applied after been in the fridge for a while too!
Lush claim that this face mask is a detoxing mask which is able to deep cleanse, soften and moisturise the skin as well as leaving it supple. Another minor claim is that the mask can help reduce redness and inflammation meaning it is ideal for acne sufferers or anyone with a big, red puffy spot that they want rid of! Lush state that Catastrophe Cosmetic can avoid spots occurring and say that the face mask keeps skin in top condition due to its deep cleansing factor. There are not really any claims that stand out to me as been over the top or far fetched to be honest, I didn't have high expectations when using it and it is just a nice simple face mask.
There are loads of yummy sounding ingredients in this, but the most obvious of them and my favourite is fresh blueberries. Blueberries apparently are able to reduce inflammation and also have an antiseptic effect. They are rich in antioxidants as well as vitamins and minerals. Believe it or not, blueberries are very effective for spotty teenage skin and they help cleanse the skin too. Another ingredient is irish moss gel - something I had never heard of before. This stuff oothes and softens the skin and it helps hold the face mask together. A very basic ingredient is talc, which is basically a bulking agent with the advantage of giving skin a very slight silky feel, it also contributes to the smooth, easy to spread on texture. Almond oil is another great ingredient, it's emollient, demulcent and nutritious with a high vitamin E content. The oil softens and nourishes the skin and it's a brilliant product to use if you have slightly dry, dull skin. Chamomile oil is another ingredient. This is an oil with many uses, it can be used to heal bruises and the scent is used in aromatherapy to help hormone fluctuations and ease period pains. It is also good for soothing sore and irritated skin. The full list of ingredients can be found on the Lush website.
**Price, Value For Money and Availability**
This isn't too expensive at £5.75 for a 75 gram pot of it. I personally get around 4 uses out of each pot, which I don't think is too bad! Considering how effective and good quality it is, I think it's worth the price and it's a really pleasant to use face mask - mainly because of the smell. I have repurchased this face mask around five times now and each time the pot has been full to the brim with product and it's lasted for atleast 3/4 uses. You do need a generous amount and it goes on quite thick but you will certainly get atleast 2 uses out of it even if you have a huge face lol. The face mask is available either in-store from Lush or via their website which is worldwide.
This comes in a small, round black Lush pot which holds 75 grams of product - it's nothing out of the ordinary or eye catching but I like how simplistic it is, and it's also definetly unisex. It has white font on it, this simply has the product name and a brief description which reads 'When disaster looms, catasthrophe cosmetic calms and cleanses the skin. Blueberries rich in beneficial anti-oxidants and full of vitamins and minerals reduce inflammation and have an antiseptic effect. Soothing chamomile, irish moss and almond oil with the gentle cleansing action of calamine save the day. Apply to clean skin, avoiding the eye area. Leave for five to ten minutes, then rinse away with warm water. Leave chilled'. The packaging overall is minimal but it has plenty of information on it. It's not the packaging that matters anyway, it's how effective the product is that matters!
**Smell and Texture**
This face mask is the best smelling face mask i've ever used.. it's even nicer then Lush's chocolate cupcake face mask! The most prominant smell is fresh, fruity blueberries, with a slight floral undertone. I can also smell an extremely slight citrussy type smell which is lovely. It's an unusual smell but I think pretty much anyone would like it. I do think it is alot more of a feminine scent rather than a unisex or manly smell, however I imagine alot of guys would like it equally as much as girls do and the smell doesn't linger once the mask has been washed off either. I love the smell though, and I really want Lush to bring out a perfume with the excact same smell, it's gorgeous! The texture is nice, it is quite thick but it has a nice smooth 'wet' feel to it. It is not gloopy and it is easy to scoop out a bit and lather it onto my face evenly. It doesn't run off my face so it isn't messy to apply. It dries reasonably quickly and it does dry hard but not to the point of been heavy or uncomfortable.
I love this face mask! The smell is devine and it's a pleasure to use, I keep it on for as long as possible and as soon as I put it on I can literally feel it start to work, my skin feels instantly better and the smell makes me feel refreshed and happy. Because it's a fresh face mask you need to store it in the fridge, meaning when I apply it, it's gorgeously cold and it wakes me up and makes me feel ready to take on the world. I think because of the smell it's quite a summery feeling face mask if that makes sense, so I can feel like it's August when in fact it's January lol, it is a gorgeous scent. The face mask is easy to apply and it has blueberry skins in it, luckily these aren't too messy and they don't fall off my face when i'm wearing the mask.
The mask dries quickly and becomes quite stiff, but I am always still able to move my face and it doesn't feel horrible or too tight/dry. My skin always feels nourished and once i've washed it off my skin honestly feels amazing! It feels rejuvinated - soft, smooth and it looks bright and clear. I have quite a weird complexion at the minute with red patches on my cheeks due to my hormones, however this face mask reduces these red patches almost completely and it noticeably reduces redness around spots and dries them up. I have sensetive skin and find that this face mask is nice and gentle yet still very effective.
It is quite a messy task getting it off, it dries hard so you need to scrub it off with a loofah or flannel which takes me around 5 minutes, this results in bits of the face mask crumbling into the sink along with the little blueberry skins which stick to the sink, however as long as you wash your sink out immedietly it shouldn't stain. This is the only disadvantage and it doesn't bother me too much.
This is a really nice face mask. I mainly like it because of the lovely fresh scent, however it is also a great deep cleansing face mask which leaves my skin feeling and looking great. It is suitable for any skin type and can help prevent spots or aid in getting rid of them. It is affordable and I overall reccomend Catastrophe Cosmetic. 5/5 Stars!
I always look forward to summer, not only because of the longer days and (usually) better weather but also being a bit of a foodie, the wide variety of fruits and vegetables that come into season. My favourite of these are mangos. My parents live in London where boxes of mangos sell like hotcakes and you can pick up a couple of boxes for around a tenner! Needless to say, as a family we eat our way through several boxes a year! Although mangos are very good for you, they can be quite messy to eat, particularly when very ripe and I often find that juices run down my face when I am eating them. These juices can cause some people, including me, to break out in red, itchy spots. Usually I am quite good an ensure I wash my face thoroughly when I have finished eating however I must not have been thorough enough on one occasion as I came out with an angry rash on the side of my chin, which was very itchy and quite uncomfortable.
The next day I was passing by a Lush branch and I went in for a browse. Looking at their range of fresh face masks (of which I am a huge fan!) I spotted one called Catastrophe Cosmetic. This mask is especially designed to calm irritated and inflamed skin. As I am normally lucky enough not to suffer from any skin complaints it's not one that I have tried, but reading the description further it sounded like it was exactly what I needed.
Catastrophe Cosmetic contains blueberries, which are rich in antioxidants and full of vitamins and minerals, which act to reduce inflammation and have an antiseptic effect. It also contains a list of other skin soothing ingredients including chamomile, irish moss gel and almond oil which work together with the gentle cleansing action of calamine. Calamine lotion in particular is well known for its skin soothing properties as I am sure many of us have had experience of using this for chickenpox!
I used this mask that evening before having a bath. I rinsed my skin with warm water prior to applying - not only does this cleanse my skin but I also find masks easier to apply when the skin is wet. Like all fresh Lush masks Catastrophe Cosmetic comes in a small black plastic tub containing 75g of the product. On opening the tub I was greeted with a thick, purple coloured paste, in which I could see quite big flecks of blueberry skin. This did impress me somewhat as it reflected the "naturalness" of this product.
Like all fresh face masks that Lush make this one needs to be kept in the fridge. In the winter I tend to take the tub out of the fridge around 20 minutes before I intend to use it to allow it to warm up a little but in the summer it is really refreshing to use straight out of the fridge! The mask had quite a thick consistency but was still fairly easy to apply and I ensured I avoided the eye and mouth areas. As I put this on I noticed the delicious, sweet, fruity smell that reminded me of blueberry muffins! As the mask dries this smell still lingers, which is lovely.
The instructions state that the mask should be left on for 5 to 10 minutes - I tend to leave it on for 10 minutes to gain maximum benefit. During this time the mask starts to dry and fade to a pale grey colour. However unlike most clay based masks I did not notice this start to tighten as it dried, which is something I liked, as often the tightening can make the experience quite uncomfortable. One thing that I did find quite annoying with this mask is that as it dries it becomes quite powdery and any movement I make results in fine powder falling all around me. As I often put a mask on and go watch a bit of tv or go on the laptop this can make my surroundings a bit messy! As a result of this I now ensure that I use this mask only in the bathroom where any falling powder can be caught in the sink.
After the 10 minutes are up I rinsed this off with warm water. The mask came off easily with very little rubbing required. After removing the mask my skin felt quite soft and very clean. Despite having some moisturising ingredients in the mask, such as almond oil, I did not find it very moisturising. That's not to say that my skin felt dry, it just didn't feel as moisturised as with other masks I have used.
One of the main reasons I opted for this mask was the fact that I was looking for something that would sort out the rash on the side of my chin. In this respect I was quite impressed with Catastrophe Cosmetic. After just the first application my rash felt soothed and a lot less itchy. I applied this to my skin everyday for the next few days and after just 3 days my rash had started to heal and disappear!
I got about 8 or 9 uses out of the pot. Priced at £4.95 for a pot this is quite expensive compared to some of the masks that are available in chemists for example, but in my opinion, considering the fresh ingredients and the positive effect it had on my skin, it's worth every penny! Lush also have an ongoing offer where if you bring back 5 empty pots of lush products you receive a free fresh mask - definitely worth it in my opinion as you can save money and do your bit for the environment!
Overall then I am quite impressed with this mask and if I were to suffer from any skin complaints in the future then this is the first mask I would reach for. It's certainly one that I would recommend for problematic or teenage skin. However it's not one that would be a regular on my list - I much prefer some of the other masks in the fresh mask range and the fact that it is quite messy as it dries puts me off somewhat too. For this reason I give the mask 4 out of 5 stars.
I am a huge fan of lush products and I think that a lot of them beat the so called premium brands hands down. I especially like their face masks as they are all reasonably priced and more importantly my reactive skin can coope with the majority of them.
The last one I bought was the catastrophe one and I was quite impressed with it.
The catastrophe mask is made with all fresh natural ingredients including blueberries so it is a lovely blue/violet colour. Because it is freshly made it is stored in the fridge and you need to keep it in the refridgerator when you get it home to keep it as fresh for as long as possible. The fact that you store it in the fridge means that it is lovely and cool when you apply it and it really does help sooth my skin.
In the pot you only get about 4 applications but at £4.95 for a pot this works out quite reasonable especially as the ingedients are all fresh. You just need to smear it on your skin and wait 10 minutes before rinsing it off.
After using the mask I noticed my skin felt so soft and smooth and it didn't cause me to have any reactions or sensitivity. My skin definately looked clearer and felt like it had been deeply cleansed. I didn't notice any drastic changes but I enjoyed using it and my skin did have a little glow aferwards.
The smell of the mask is absolutely delicious and it smells really sweet and almost like you would want to eat it which just added to the sense of enjoyment and feeling of pampering that I had whilst using it.
For the money I definately think this little face mask is a complete and utter bargain and it is definately one I shall be purchasing again.
Other than the blueberries the mask also contains: Calamine Powder, Talc, Irish Moss Gel Glycerine, Almond Oil , Rose Absolute , Chamomile Blue Oil , Sweet Wild Orange ), Limonene, Methyl Ionone, Perfume and Colourant.
I'm a big fan of Lush and enjoying treating myself to their fab beauty products as often as I can afford. One of their ongoing special offers works by returning empty pots from finished items, in exchange for a Fresh Face Mask of your choice. The deal is, you clean out 5 old black tubs (any size counts, but only the black tubs, not the plastic bottles or other types of packaging), and you can take them back in to the shop and exchange them for a free Fresh Face Mask - bargain. There are currently 9 different types available to choose from, and I've just finished using the Catastrophe Cosmetic mask. They're available to buy from Lush stores on this high street, via mail order, or online at www.lush.co.uk. It costs £4.95 for a 75g tub but I always wait to get my masks as a freebie! The best thing is, the free mask you get counts as 1/5 of your next lot of black tubs so it gives you a good head start!
This is a face mask with a difference, only natural ingredients are used and it's freshly made. This means that you'll be getting the best of the vitamins and nutrients, but it causes the product to have a short life span of around 2-3 weeks. It will need to be kept refrigerated to keep it preserved for longer. If it is not kept chilled the ingredients will go off and the face mask will be un-useable. Bear this in mind and save it for the last stop on your shopping trip - you don't want it starting to go off in your bag as you spend the day hitting up the shops!
Lush say: "When disaster looms, Catastrophe Cosmetic calms and cleanses the skin. Blueberries rich in beneficial anti-oxidants and full of vitamins and minerals reduce inflammation and have an antiseptic effect. Soothing Chamomile, Irish Moss and Almond Oil with the gentle cleansing action of Calamine save the day."
Recommended directions for use: Apply to clean skin, avoiding the eye area. Leave for 5-10 minutes, then rinse away with warm water. Keep chilled.
I usually remove the mask from the fridge about 5-10 minutes before I use it so that it has a chance to warm up a little and doesn't give too much of a chilling shock to my skin. This feels a bit more comfortable and is more relaxing than refreshing.
The mask is a bright shade of blue toned purple which looks really fun and colourful. It smells sweet and fruity, and has a lovely fresh fragrance. It's easy to apply as it spreads smoothly and evenly, and I was able to spread it over my face easily. There are small pieces of blueberry mixed in with the mask and these manage to stay in place without creating any extra mess. It has a very thick, heavy consistency and I needed to apply quite a generous amount to ensure I was getting a full coverage.
To get the best out of the mask I apply once a week and follow quite a detailed routine as part of my intensive treat. Firsly I make sure my face is thoroughly clean and free of all traces of make-up. I usually wash with Lush's Ultrabland and then rinse off with warm water. After I've done this I then applied the Catastrophe Cosmetic Fresh Face Mask. Once the mask is then thoroughly covering my face I leave it for the 5-10 minutes, then wash away with warm water. Finally I finish up by using a toning solution to ensure the mask has been fully removed, then use a moisturising lotion and eye cream.
My skin really feels the benefit of using these fresh masks and the natural ingredients are wonderful for tired or sensitive skin. I haven't noticed any difference between leaving the mask on for 5 minutes or 10 minutes, and although there is no noticeable benefit from leaving it on longer I prefer to keep it on for the 10 minutes as this gives me more of a chance to relax.
This face mask is really soothing and it did make my skin feel calmer. After washing it off my skin felt instantly more hydrated and smoother. It is so soft and any imperfections are noticable minimised and reduced. This is also lovely when you apply it over the neck, as this gives a moisturising boost and gives your skin the extra attention that it can need. When I was choosing which mask to buy I was a little unsure, and the sale assistant recommended this one as it was an all-round hard worker and suitable for all skin types and well as being packed full of rejuvenating natural ingredients. I'm really glad I followed her advice as this has made my skin feel nourished and pampered.
The mask is very thick and heavy, and can be somewhat difficult to remove completely. It hardens quite quickly and can form cracks and flake off as it dries out. I found that when I was nearing the use by date the mask became a bit clumpy and was not spreading on as easily. However, it still had the same great effect on my skin, and I was able to use up the entire pot before it passed it's use by date which is quite surprising as I normally forget they are in the fridge and then discover them again when it's too late! I managed to get 5 full applications from this tub, including an extended covering down over some of my neck.
I have really enjoyed using this face mask and noticed positive results. I would certainly buy it again. Since I've been following a more regimented skin care routine I have noticed a vast improvement to my complexion and my skin has never looked so good!

I first brought these two years ago and had thought it had stopped being made. What appealed was the lovely smell and texture of the product. It's made fresh and kept chilled in store. When you get it home you have to put it in the fridge as its fresh produce. It contains blueberries, Irish moss, almond oil and chamomile.
I have quick odd skin. Depending how my skin feels ,it may be oily, dry, spotty, or a mix of all three. This seems to soothe it no matter what. An application of a tablespoon (so about 5 or 6 applications a pot) is enough to put on and leave for 20 mins and have nice skin.
You must put it in the fridge though as its fresh ingredients which are good for your skin. To be honest, I have left it out of the fridge and I have noticed it dosnt work as well, so for the best, keep it in the fridge. It still works, but not as well. But oddly, still smells lovely! It lasts a month in the fridge. Use it twice a week for best results and (id suggest) relax in the bath(oh and don't forget the book!!!)
I believe lush use all organic ingredients (or not, but ive heard it has), which (if true) is great for your body as well your wallet-a brilliant buy at 4.95 (don't forget to take your 5 old pots back-get one product free!)
Overall, worth buying. Nice little treat especially for the night before the night out(bit of a mouthful!). Great to lay in a bath with it on and a nice book! Then you can put your make up on and go out on the town!
When visiting the shop beware , the staff can be a bit too friendly -which is fine if you don't mind being asked "are you ok there" about 3 times before reaching the other end of the shop (and there small shops!)
Catastrophe Cosmetic is a Fresh Face Mask from Lush. Fresh Face Masks are, as the name suggests, made with fresh ingredients, only last about a month from purchase, and need to be kept in the fridge or else they will go off. They cost £4.95, which sounds expensive, but after using a couple of them I've come to the conclusion that they're worth it - and each one is good for 5-6 applications if you use it twice a week. If you collect 5 of the black pots that many of Lush's products come in, it is possible to get a free face mask too. The packaging is different to the picture on Dooyoo - the masks are now packaged in the black pots themselves, so one pot counts towards the 5 you need to get a free mask!
This particular face mask, according to the staff in my local Lush shop, is designed for combination and oily skin. It contains fresh blueberries for their antioxidant properties and vitamin and mineral content, as well as chamomile, Irish moss and almond oil alongside calamine to cleanse gently. The mask is a rich purple colour with bits of blueberries buried in it. The first thing that struck me, even when I was deciding on a face mask in the shop, was the delicious smell. The scent really was of fresh blueberries, and the mask smelled good enough to eat!
I took my mask home and put it in the fridge, taking it out only when I needed to use it. I cleansed my face and applied a thin layer of the mask. As one of the assistants pointed out, there's really no need to use a thick layer as it's only the part of the mask touching your skin that will have an effect.
The mask felt lovely and cool on my skin. I did notice that my skin tingled slightly, which led me to worry I might be allergic, but my skin clearly suffered no ill effects. In fact, when I washed the mask off after about ten minutes, my skin was glowing and seemed clearer already. After using it a couple of times I noticed that I had fewer spots, I wasn't getting any new ones, and my skin generally looked lovely.
This is another great face mask from Lush. I've tried three so far and they all seem to be suitable for my sensitive skin. As well as that they all leave my skin in fantastic condition. I have slightly oily/combination skin so most of the face masks seem to suit me, but it would be worth talking to a Lush assistant if you're unsure. I think my favourite so far is BB Seaweed (although Catastrophe Cosmetic wins on look and scent), but they're all great and I would certainly buy them all, including Catastrophe Cosmetic, again.
In summary - another wonderful Fresh Face Mask from Lush!
I can't really afford to buy many Lush products these days so was really pleased when my oldest daughter left me almost a full pot of Catastrophe Cosmetic to try. Apparently it cost £4.95 with a 'return 5 empty pots - get 1 free' offer.
The tub I have is different to the one in the picture but is exactly the same product - it's a flatter, more solid black tub with a black lid & the weight shown is 75g.
I love the descriptions Lush provide on their packaging - eg this one states 'when disaster looms, Catastrophe Cosmetic calms & cleanses the skin'. Well, I wouldn't exactly say it was a disaster, but my face needed a really thorough deep-cleanse & I felt I needed a change from my usual cleanser so gave it a try straight from the fridge (as advised).
Once opened the blueberry smell really hits you - it's gorgeous - not too overpowering but refreshingly sweet & clean-smelling. The texture has a base of a thick yoghurty-type cream with loads of bits in it which look like mashed-up blueberries.
It's very easy to use but I have to say my daughter & I looked very peculiar when it started to dry - if you can imagine blue chickenpoxed faces then that gives you an idea.
t ls very coolingwhen you first spread it on & then, soon after, the cream turns to a kind of thick powder as it dries. I could feel the skin on my face tightening a little but it wasn't uncomfortable. I left mine on for 15 minutes (whilst ironing)whilst my daughter left hers on for much longer whilst in the bath & we both had good results despite our great age difference.
It needed quite a lot of rinsing off to make sure all the 'bits' had gone but it was worth the effort. Not only did my face feel much softer & smoother, but I'm sure it removed a couple of stubborn blackheads which I'd been unable to remove previously.
The only thing I noticed after using it was that my face needed moisturising immediately as it felt tight & my daughter had a red face for about half ahour after removing it - apart from that I'd recommend this as a great facial cleanser which smells good enough to eat!
I am a huge Lush fan and go through enough black pots that I often quality for a free fresh face mask. For those who are new to Lush, many of their products come in black pots, if you collect 5 empty ones you can trade it in for a fresh face mask of your choice! It's a great incentitive to keep coming back.
I was always a little bit put off by the Fresh face masks as I presumed you only got one use as it would go off but how wrong was I. If you keep the face mask in your fridge it will last around 1 week and is big enough for around 4 uses depending how thick or thin you like to apply it. The product is 'fresh' because it contains no preservatives but only fresh ingredients, making it much better and healthier for your skin as it contains loads of vitamins, minerals and goodness that other face masks don't, as many use synthetic flavours and contain no goodness just nasty chemicals.
I was drawn to this face mask as I am very fond of blueberries and liked it's purple colour. This product contains fresh blueberries and has chunks of them in the product making it looks like a tasty desert.
Blueberries are an important ingredient as they contain vitmains and minerals and are rich in antioxidants which are beficial to the skin. They not only help to reduce inflamation on your face but also act as a mild antiseptic. Calamine is another important ingredient to rescue your skin which is combined with Chamomile to soothe the skin and irish Moss helps to cleanse whilst Almond oil gently adds softens.
I loved putting this product on my skin. Always clean your face first to remove dirt and apply to a damp face. It has like picking up a really thick yoghurt or a nice creamy desert which has a wonderful purple colour with chunks of Blueberries in it. It feels nice and cool on my skin and smelt amazing.
It did not sting or feel bad in any way, it actually feel lovely and fresh. It seemed to tighten slightly when it dried a litte, but it didn't go rock solid which was great.
I left it on for around 5 minutes as I was using it in the shower whilst trying 'Stepping Stone' and 'Glorious Mud' but if i was in the bath i often leave it on a good 20 minutes.
It's so easy to wash off and afterwards my skin felt thoroughly cleansed, refreshed and revitalised. My skin was so soft to the touch and smelt fantastic. My skin looked healthy and glowed.
I would definitely use this again. One pot to buy, costs £4.95 in store for a 75g pot or £6.45 online due to it being fresh it needs shipping out much quicker. Or save 5 black pots and get it for free.
Yummy yummy! This purpley face mask from Lush is a great buy - the blueberry scent is very pleasing, yes it does look a little bit like plastercine but I found the texture nicely smooth and elastic. It's simple to use as well - just smear it on your face and leave on for around ten minutes, then rinse it off. As with all the masks, it lasts four or five uses so it's pretty good value. It made my skin feel all fresh and tingly and as if I'd given my face a real treat! I wouldn't say it permanently cleared up any general skin problems but it's certainly a nice mask to try out once in a while for a bit of pampering.
