Lush Oatifix Fresh Face Mask
Advantages: smells like food, feels silky when washing it off
Disadvantages: left angry red patches, leaves a mess, goes off after 3 weeks
I bought the Oatifix Fresh Face Mask with a limited edition offer they had in Lush called 'Head, shoulders, knees and toes' in Lush. The face mask was recommended to me by the sales assistant when I told her I had dry, mildly sensitive skin on my face. I was hugely looking forward to using it as all other Lush products I tried smelt great and were fun to use.
SMELL: like Banoffee Pie, bananas, oats, porridge and pudding and all those things.. The bananas are supposed to soften and moisturise and the oats and illipe butter are anti-inflammatory and exfoliating agents.
PACKAGING: Comes in a little black screw-top pot which has to be kept in the fridge and the mask itself will go off after 3 weeks, so keep an eye on the use-by date. You can save up 5 different black pots and take them back to Lush to get a free fresh face mask.
CLAIMS: The mask claims to soothe sensitive skin, moisturise dry patches and soothe and smooth your skin.
Well, firstly, it started to make my skin sting as soon as I smoothed it on the first time. I persevered, thinking it was just doing its job, but after I washed it off, I was left with angry red itchy patches all over my face which later developed into eczema and have still not completely disappeared 6 months on.
CONSISTENCY: The consistency of this mask can make it a little difficult to work with as it is like a paste made from crumbled biscuits. Definitely make sure you are standing over a sink or bath tub as it leaves a bit of a mess as bits fall off your face as you are applying it.
One thing I have to say, however, is that as I was washing it off, it did leave behind a smooth silky almost oiled feeling on my skin (which if you have dry skin, is a good thing!) However, this did not last and as soon as I dried my face it was feeling tight and stretched again.
OVERALL: From my point of view, this mask is not suitable for sensitive and dry skin as it is marketed, however, if you have only dry skin, or just need a smoothing pick-me-up mask and do not have problems or have never experienced problems with redness or eczema, it may work differently for you.
You also have to make sure you use it up by three weeks as it is made of fresh ingredients and goes off after that, otherwise you will end up washing your money away.
Oatifix Fresh Face Mask can be purchased from a Lush store for £4.95 (they used to be £5.95 but have recently been reduced in price) or online. If you are in the UK www.lush.co.uk or for other countries, www.lush.com and click on your country's flag. You can also use the website to check out if you have a store near you.

Summary: Marketed at dry, sensitive skin this Fresh Face Mask from Lush did the exact opposite for me.
