“ Brand: Montagne Jeunesse / Type: Face Tonic / Subcategory: Tonic / Suitable for: Face / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types „
If you are a regular reader of my reviews you will be aware that every Sunday I make sure I have at least one hour of "me time" and it is then that I pamper myself where I carry out a facial and/or manicure and paint my nails. You will probably know that I'm an avid fan of Montagne Jeunesse facial products and have used many of the different face masques that this company offers; a number of which I have reviewed. Although I have previously discussed Montagne Jeunesse for those of you who are not aware of the company I would like to tell you a little about them. They are based in Swansea, South Wales and sell an astronomical amount of beauty products for the feet, body and face. Whilst I am experienced in using their facial products I have yet to try out the others and I recently trawled their easy to navigate website where I made a rather lengthy lists of the items that I intend to purchase. The product I am discussing today is their Spa Fabric Facial Face Tonic and to be honest with you, this purchase was a mistake, as I wrongly believed it to be a cream masque as opposed to fabric. I'm not a lover of wrapping my face in any type of fabric, as I feel it very claustrophobic.
APPEARANCE OF THE PRODUCT
If you are familiar with the range you will be aware that each facial product is contained within an oblong shaped sachet with curved edges, which measures approximately 18 cm x 8 cm. However, this product is slightly different, as its' sachet is in the shape of a large teardrop. Each and every one of the sachets provide us with an image of a female who displays the product on her face and normally we see many items of fruit and/or leaves piled upon her eyelids. However, Face Tonic simply shows the female wearing the fabric masque and holding it to her face with both hands. I really do not know how I didn't notice this when I examined the sachet prior to purchasing two of them, but that's the mistake I made by not correctly reading the information contained on the product.
We are informed that the fabric contains plant collagen and that it is designed to de-stress us. Montagne Jeunesse claims that the treatment contains Pelvetiane seawood, which in combination with the other ingredients will lift and firm our facial skin. As I had never heard of the word Pelvetiane I attempted to carry out some research and typed it in my Google search bar. However, the only results provided to me were a long list of other people's reviews on this product and no reference to the actual seaweed, so I proceeded no further. On the reverse of the sturdy plastic sachet we are advised that the fabric masque is suitable for those people whose skin is tired and showing the signs of ageing. Yes, this is definitely me and my skin could do with a huge boost. Montagne Jeunesse claim that after use the whole face and body will become uplifted, re-awakened and alive, so I couldn't wait to try it out and see if I then wanted to indulge in a 20 mile run, clean the house, dig the garden, undertake 200 press ups etc etc!
USING THE PRODUCT
To achieve the best results it is necessary to firstly cleanse the face and then tear along the easy to open short perforated area to remove the fabric masque. Inside the packet I found a neatly folded light green fabric masque, which in my opinion smelled rather strange. As I unravelled the masque I felt that I was staring at Jason from Friday the 13th, as it was somewhat scary! There are large cut out areas for the eyes and nose and for some reason the mouth area is perforated and subsequently needs to be torn away prior to application. However, as soon as I gently removed the mouth area the fabric started to fray, which resulted in long pieces of cotton hanging downwards. The masque, which was decorated with images of leaves, was considerably moist, but not so that it dripped when I gently pressed it on to my face and patted it lightly to stick to my skin. I have to say that it was an extremely weird sensation, particularly as I could see the fabric in the corner of my eyes and the long cotton areas hanging from the mouth area. However, not being one to give up I proceeded and left the masque to hopefully work its' magic for the recommended 5 to 10 minutes.
MY EXPERIENCE OF USING THE PRODUCT
As soon as the masque made contact with my skin I could instantly feel a very slight stinging sensation, which although not unpleasant, it wasn't something I particularly favoured. The masque was very cooling on my skin, but I cannot say that I felt de-stressed. In fact, I felt quite impatient waiting the ten minutes, as I so desperately wanted to remove it. The only positive I found when using this product is that I didn't have to keep my facial features as still as possible and risk anything cracking, which generally occurs when using cream or peel off face masques. Once my ten minutes were up I removed the masque as quickly as I could and following the directions to gentle massage any excess liquid into my skin. This was swiftly followed by splashing my face with cold water and patting the skin dry. Unfortunately, I cannot state that I noticed any visible results other than the fact that my skin was rather red and sore, particularly around my mouth and chin area, which felt as if it was pulsating.
I cannot advise that my skin felt moisturised and to be honest, I feel that I might as well have simply washed my face with a harsh soap and have left this on the supermarket shelf. Within a few minutes I started to experience tightness in my cheeks and to the sides of my eyes and it was then that I applied my moisturiser. Obviously a real benefit in using fabric masques as opposed to creams is that you are not left with a messy sink or finger nails after application and removal, but using this masque is not an experience I will be repeating. In fact, I gave my second masque to my sister who will probably leave it in the back of a drawer for years upon years, particularly after learning of my rather uncomfortable and unforgettable experience.
I cannot recommend this masque, as I found it considerably drying and irritating to my skin, which is not something I have suffered with any of the other Montagne Jeunesse products. Also, I cannot agree with Montagnese Jeunesse's claim whereby the "whole face and body will become uplifted, re-awakened and alive", as I felt absolutely nothing after using the masque other than my skin being uncomfortably tight and sore! Consequently, this product receives only 1 star from me.
As previously advised, this product contains Pelvetiane Seaweed together with plant derived collagen and glucose. There is an extremely lengthy list of ingredients and whilst I do not intend including them in this review I would suggest you check them out prior to purchase, particularly as this product caused an adverse reaction for me. Montagne Jeunesse does not test any of their products on animals and they are approved by the Vegetarian Standard. Whilst I am unsure about the discarded masque I would advise that the empty sachet is recyclable once empty. As with all products of this nature your masque should be kept out of reach of children and care should be taken not to make contact with the eye area. The mistake I made was that I did not carry out an irritancy test prior to use and if you are interested in purchasing this product I would highly recommend you do so.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
Montagne Jeunesse products are widely available in many of the larger supermarkets and chemists and tend to fluctuate in price. However, stores such as Home Bargains and Asda sell the individual sachets for 99p each and often have offers whereby you can purchase four for the price of three.
I hope you found my review useful and would thank you for reading.

Montagne Jeunesse Spa facial Face tonic with spearmint and tea tree
I bought a few of these Montagne Jeunesse product in a bulk lot from Amazon but I have seen them at 4 for £3 at Tesco which is 75p each obviously much less than £1 per pack which I think is pretty good value.
The range of these product is quite varied from face masks to, hair masks and foot soaks .I have tried a few of the face masks, some have been more traditional gloop to spread on your face and then wash off, some are the sort you peel off once they dry and then there are those which are like the one in this pack which are cloth masks impregnated with the beneficial liquid and you just put on your face and then take off after whatever time you want.
Montagne Jeunesse, the company that makes these products believe "That all products should be made with the minimum of processing using only natural ingredients derived from plant and mineral sources."
Where possible they use packaging that can be recycled. Their products that are vegetarian certified, not tested on animals. Many of their products are suitable for vegans and they use no chemicals so they are a company with pretty good ethics which is also a plus for me.
The pack is a tear drop shaped foil sachet which you can easily tear off the top and remove the folded up cloth mask from within. Just to help you look more glamorous when wearing this gorgeous mask it is decorated with a green leaf design, presumably to make you feel like you have spearmint leaves on your face. Anyway once you have this weird mask on you look like something from another world with a strange emotionless blank mask with leaves on it. It really looks awful so I only ever wear this when lying in the bath with the door firmly closed.
What does it do? I hear you ask. Not much really I have found. It makes me feel refreshed and my skin feels nice and soft. It is supposed to clear your pores but I am not sure how I would judge this really. It states that your skin will be clearer, cleaner and softer after only 5 minutes. I usually leave this on for 5 minutes plus as I lie in the bath and as I said I do feel that my skin is softer but I don't really have a problem with spots or oily skin so I am not sure if it helps with that.
The fabric mask is quite wet when you get it out of the packet and you have to unfold it carefully before putting it on. I found that if I folded it up again and put it back in the pack that it was wet enough to use again the next day and get another refreshing, relaxing facial treatment out of this.
This is a good value product, not expensive but it does make my face feel soft and refreshed after using it. A bargain at 75p especially if you are a stinge like me and use it a second time!
These packs can be bought a Boots, super drug, Amazon and supermarkets like Tesco and they are usually about £1 each pack.
Thank you for reading. This review may be posted on other sites under my same user name,
Every couple of weeks my girlfriend and I have a really nice night in, watching old re-runs of our favourite TV Shows, or a film, we have a couple of drinks, a pamper - and this includes a face masque. We sit in the room together, so mud packs or liquid face masques prove messy, inconvenient to apply and more like an annoyance to remove than a pamper, so recently when I was in Asda I noticed that Montagne Jeunesse had a Spa Fabric Facial Tonic Range. I have always stuck with Montagne Jeunesse as a brand for face masques, I love their chocolate one and the warming sauna range. When I saw these fabric masques I thought I would give them a try, less mess sounded so appealing, yet I was worried about the effectiveness of the masque.
Montagne Jeunesse stick to these principles when making their products:
'-That all products should be made with the minimum of processing using only natural ingredients derived from plant and mineral sources. Many products are dairy free.
-In scrutinizing all product materials to assess their environmental impact and where possible, to use packaging that can be recycled.
-In producing products that are vegetarian certified, not tested on animals. Many are suitable for vegans. So you know what you are getting - no chemicals and absolutely nothing nasty'
So what you see is what you get... What more could you want?
The Masque comes in a foil, sealed package, with an easy tear opening (indicated by a notch cut out of the package near the top). Once opened, you pull out the fabric masque from the package. It is durable fabric cloth which feels soft to touch. It is saturated with the Tonic and although there is a little residue left on the package and on fingers, it is no where near as messy as the liquid version.
Cost / Value for Money
RRP is 97p, however, Asda regularly have offers on these. Currently it is 4 for £3 (works out 75p a masque), a few months ago it was 2 for £2 - this meant they cost 3p more than the RRP, but you could mix and match with the Montagne Jeunesse Eye Masques - these are normally £1.97 RRP, so you could buy the eye masque, and facial tonic masque for 3p! It is difficult to put a price on a face masque, as I suppose they are a luxury you could do without. If you think a spa facial in a salon would cost you aound £10-£15 minimum, then I feel that these little beauty treats represent good value for money.
You can buy this online or in most supermarkets, Boots and Superdrug.
Remove from packaging and then open the masque out by unfolding it. You then take out the mouth 'hole' and place the strip across your nose, then simply place the masque across your face. Lay back and relax. Once it has been on for about 5 minutes (sometimes leave mine on a little longer - normally until the adverts), then you need to remove the fabric masque, discard and then rinse the residue from your face - you can do this in one fell swoop with a face cloth, as it doesn't really leave very much residue - in fact, you can get away without rinsing afterwards, although I don't recommend this for your skin.
Most of Montagne Jeunesse masques are suitable for sensitive skin. It recommends you carry out a patch test - this can be pretty difficult with these fabric masques. All I did the first time around, was squeeze some residue behind my ear and inside of my elbow and then leave it for 24 hours. I placed the part opened masque in a tub in the fridge, and this retained the moisture and freshness.
There a several different spa fabric facial tonic masques available, here are the ones I have tried (note Parabens are a group of chemicals used in lots of cosmetics and beauty products as a preservative):
Aloe Vera & Green Tea Face Tonic - a green fabric masque with green aloe leaf images printed on the masque - claims to be ultra fast soothing and calming
Product Information: 'The beautiful aromas of aloe vera, green tea & cucumber are soothing and calming. This is a perfect product if you suffer from dry skin. The healing properties of Aloe Vera & the anti-oxidant properties of Green Tea help to soften, cleanse & protect skin from oxidative damage.
Nut Derivative Free
No Added Parabens'
Verdict: A very kind to sensitive skin masque, which is mild and calming. It provides you with moisture and cleansing, but in a soft and gentle way. Refreshing. It leaves your skin feeling like it has had a big drink, looking more supple and soft.
Ultra Fast Pore Cleansing with Spearmint & Tea Tree - the masque is white with spearmint leaves printed on it.
Product Information: 'Feeling a bit blue and need a lift? There's nothing like Spearmint & Tea Tree to lift your spirits. Beautifully cleansing.
Suitable For Vegans
Nut Derivative Free
No Added Parabens'
Verdict: This is a zingy, minty and freshening masque, which cleanses deep down. I don't think it leaves your skin feeling particularly nourished, so best to follow up with a heavy night cream or your regular moisturiser.
Cherry Tonic - Fabric is white with Cherries on it, claims to be 'Vibrant and Reviving'
Product Information: 'Experience our vibrant Spa Facial Tonic. This 5 minute miracle packed with crushed extracts of Cherry and Aloe Vera is perfect for uplifting tired or lifeless skin. Embrace the fruit fusion and revive your skin.
Nut Derivative Free
No Added Parabens'
Verdict: Similar to the Spearmint, this masque is fruity and pungent, leaving your skin feeling cleansed - the aloe makes this a little more gentle and I don't need to follow it up with a moisturiser - this appeals to me, as I like a one step product / am lazy!
I am looking forward to trying the others in the range including:

When compared to the liquid type masques these fabric, tonic coated versions are as effective and less mess. They are easily disposed and are fun to wear (take some pictures of you and your friends looking silly). I definitely think they are worth the money and I am looking forward to trying some more varieties, if you register on Montagne Jeunesse you get added to a panel and when you get selected to take part in product questionnaires you get free products. It is a great, ethical company, which provides you with a cheap pick me up treat whenever you need one, or fancy an indulge, and this range in my opinion is exceptional.
Montagne Jeunesse Spa Fabric Facial Tonics are a range of single use face masks which come in different varieties, each one created for a specific skin type. The 'tonic' or mask that I used was the Aloe Vera and Green Tea variety which was recommended for dry or sensitive skin. As I have both, this product sounded promising, even more so when I read the claims on the packaging that this was 'ultra fast soothing and calming.' Now, I must confess that I'm not a typically 'girly' girl and that this was my very first attempt at using a face mask of any type or description! I have used different Montagne Jeunesse hair products in the past with varied results, so I had an open mind as I set about using this mask. It had only cost me 97p from Wilkinsons so I hadn't broken the bank by giving it a try.
The mask comes packaged in one of Montagne Jeunesse's trademark sachets. As I opened it out, the feel of the fabric was much like a very wet folded up paper towel. Once I had unravelled the mask, it looked more like a ridiculous green halloween cardboard cut out - something that my six year old son would rustle up! It probably didn't help that I chose to experiment with this mask in the living room with my husband, so that he could time the required five minutes' usage. The mask comes with clear, idiot-proof instructions and even has a step-by-step picture guide on how to use it. I followed the instructions and removed the mouth piece which then became the strip across my nose. I then applied the rest of the mask. This provoked much laughter from my husband, particularly as the mask was much too large for my face! He sat there taking pictures of me with his camera phone saying that I looked like a cross between Shrek and the Elephant Man! Nice. To be fair to Montagne Jeunesse, I'm not sure that this was the relaxing experience that they had envisaged when they created this range.
The whole experience wasn't completely negative. The mask felt pleasant and cooling against my skin. I couldn't clearly identify the fragrance but it was a fresh, vegetable sort of smell. As the packaging tells me it contains aloe vera leaf juice, green tea leaf extract and cucumber extract, the fragrance is possibly some combination of the above. It wasn't overpowering or unpleasant at all, anyway, and I was happy to smell it for the five minutes required.
After the five minutes were up, I gingerly peeled off the mask and splashed my face with cold water and patted it down as instructed. I was relieved that my face hadn't turned bright green or become covered in red blotches or anything to frighten my husband and kids. This relief soon became disappointment as I realised that not only did my skin not look any different, it didn't feel any different either. It was pleasantly cool, having had a cold mask on it for five minutes but didn't feel nourished at all. Yes, I suppose the principle claim on the sachet was that it soothed and calmed which I think it probably did. It would have been just as soothing and calming if I'd been laying there with a wet dish cloth on my face though and I would have saved myself 97p and five minutes of ridicule!
Just in case there were any longer laster effects, I reserved judgement until waking up the next morning. My skin felt just as dry as before, in fact the patch of dry skin that tends to appear on my chin was still there in all its glory. As a product that's marketed at dry and/or sensitive skin, I suppose its major achievement is that it didn't cause me any discomfort or irritation at all. Beyond that, it didn't do anything at all for me or my skin (although it gave the other half something to laugh at.) I, obviously, wouldn't particularly recommend this. Perhaps this is what face masks are supposed to do? If so, I won't bother buying another one!
One week before when i was out shopping for a face wash, i stumbled upon this attractive looking sachet of face mask. As i am a fan of dead sea minerals, i was attracted to this face mask written 'calming dead sea anti-stress- spa facial face tonic' and eventually grabbed one and put in the basket. The price was just about 1.3 euros(about £1), so i felt no problem in trying.
Montagne Jeunesse produce a wide range of face masques, body masques, hair tonics and foot care ,that means a top to toe treat. All products are vegetarian society and BUAV (British Union for Abolition of Vivisection) approved.
This particular one was a light blue water-drop shaped sachet with one mask. So it is not a paste as the usual face masks but a ready made mask which should be placed on the face. They claim to have dead sea minerals and give a calm and smooth skin and a lifted spirit.
So as soon as i got home i wanted to use the mask. So first i cleaned my face using a face scrub. Took the sachet, tore it through the small cut on the left side of the sachet to find a moist, fresh smelling, light blue fabric inside, very neatly folded. As given in the instructions to use, i unfolded the mask to find a big mask which reminded me of my childhood when me and my sister used to play making masks with paper. The eyes where cut out and there was a split on the nose portion. The mouth was outlined with small dots. Again in the instructions , it was written to take the mouth section and keep on the nose horizontally. All instructions are neatly illustrated so it was very easy to follow. Now place the mask on the face and gently pat it so that the mask has maximum contact with the skin. I put the mask lying down so that i can relax and the mask also wont move from its position. It is told to maintain the position 5- 10 minutes so for maximum effect i used it for 10 minutes and after taking the mask gently massaged a little bit and washed with cold water.
Yes, i felt a real cooling effect to my skin which i doubted was because of the menthol which is another ingredient of it. My face was really clean and freshened up. So i was happy. I felt it made my skin a bit dry but it resumed its skin tone after half an hour or so.
How long did it last?
It lasted that day of course. The next 2 days it was showing effects and by the fifth day it was all gone. Now after one week i think its time to take another session.
So overall i felt it as a good face mask to renew our stressed skin and also to get a freshened look. I will surely update the review after prolonged use.
When it comes to buying face masks I'm seriously uncontrollable and there's no stopping me in my quest for beautiful, youthful and radiant skin! I've never really felt much benefit from them but being somewhat of a girly girl I just feel it's a must have pampering product and on the night of going somewhere special I always use one as a ritual. A couple I own I do buy regularly (Botanics.) One is really great at firming my face up a treat and I feel somewhat lifted and more confident leaving the house and the other is brilliant for softening my skin and therefore I feel makes the application of make up more of a doddle and more even looking results are achieved.
I've seen a lot of Motangne Jennesse face single use face masks on the market in places like Superdrug and Boots of late. I've tried a couple in the past and not been overly impressed but like a lot of people when I see them I marvel at how cheap they are. There are so many formulations to try such as exfoliating and heat up varieties and price range they are anything from 89p - £1.29 making them in my opinion an affordable treat for that said big night out. Because of the price and the fact that they are usually on some kind of offer (3 for the price of 2 and the likes) I always put aside my reservations and try one out. I always go to the till with a heavy heart though because I read alot of reviews here on Dooyoo about this brands offerings and more often than that us girls on here really don't to appear rate them. What swung this purchase is that they were reduced to 10p per mask in this particular variety so I grabbed a handful and hoped I had got a really good bargain to treat my skin to for over this coming party season!
Sort of a long tear shaped plastic wrapper which is silver foil inside. The colour is orange and yellows and there is a lady rather looking like she's enjoying relaxing with this orange coloured mask on her face. Lots of information is on the front including being told that it is indeed a Montange Jeunesse product, Anti-Stress, Ultra Fast Detox, Spa Fabric Facial, Face Tonic. Under that is the photograph I have already mentioned and to each side of that I'm told it is Lemon & Ginseng. Under that I'm told it is deep pore purifying and then I'm told some stuff in a foreign languages and once again I'm reminded it's an Anti-Stress formula. On the back of the packet I'm once again told the brand name and that it's a salon style fabric facial, told about the product and given a warning. Then there are diagrams on how to use the product, the recycle symbol is shown, I'm told loads of stuff in foreign languages yet again, told it's vegetarian standard and finally there is a bar-code shown. All in all it's very informative packaging as you can tell as are all the products in this range.
About The Product....According To The Packaging....
Do you need an ultra fast deep pore purifying face tonic?
Yes, if your skin is tired and stressed out, or if your pores and blackheads need to be reduced.
What Will Happen?
Our natural essences of Lemon and Ginseng will detox (we use natural oils so some of you make experience a tingling too!) coupled with the anti oxidant effects of Green Tea and Red Grape juice.
What Will It Do For You?
You'll feel relaxed and your skin will glow with an ultra cleansed radiance.
Sounds all very promising doesn't it?! lol
Cleanse skin, remove piece from mouth section of mask and place over nose. Lean back, relax and pat mask down for maximum contact. leave on for 5-10 minutes to enable the natural herb essences to lift your tired, stressed skin. Remove. Gently massage in any excess liquid. Splash face with cold water, pat dry.
Well there is a little slit to the top of the packet and it doesn't tear all that easily open so you need some muscles lol. Once torn you are greeted by a folded up two tone orange material mask that you have to unfold of course to use. As you pull it out of the packet you can see the wet residue sliding down the sides of the packet and as you pull the mask out it's really rather wet and you can't stop it dripping everywhere! The more you unfold the more moisture flicks everywhere! Bit of a pain but not really a major problem though to be fair.
Smell wise it's rather pleasant. Nice gentle aroma of oranges and nothing to overpowering or zesty and I guess the smell is tamed down somewhat due to the ingredients. It's simply fresh and clean and in my view therefore suitable for men and women to use if desired.
So firstly you have to tear off the perforated piece that's on the mouth section. Tough job but doable. Once that's done you lay that small piece on the nose and then gently but firmly apply the mask to the face. By this time for some reason the mask doesn't feel so wet but my god it's cold and almost made me pee myself in shock! lol
This is a large mask and you can pull it as it is strong to fit the face as required. For me it's too big and I'm left with material on my hair and that which isn't so good but I don't mind using this and then having my bath or shower anyway afterwards so again not a major gripe and of course you could if you wanted to relax in the bath with this on if you wanted.
Once on the face you lie back for 5-10 minutes. It's important to lie back so the mask rests on the face properly. Sit up, sure it stays put ok but the bit at the chin instead of staying tucked over that area hangs and you don't get the benefits of it so your best to simply chill and take it easy.
Now I leave it on for the full 10 minutes for the most benefits I can can get from it. Nicely fragrant and it does warm up somewhat to body temperature so becomes more comfortable over time on the face. Although I do have spots, blackheads, whiteheads and open visible pores this does not and never does make my face tingle. Also being close to my eyes it doesn't upset my sensitive eyes at all. All in all it's very simple to use. No running of liquid anywhere and it smells quite pleasant. I don't feel it working and it's unobtrusive as it's quite a good fit and covers all my face but leaving me room to see out of etc.
After ten minutes I remove the mask and that's very simple to do. I gently take it off and dispose of it in the bin (rather than try flushing it as it is quite a thick material). My face is left feeling like it has a gentle but slightly greasy cream on it which I do as I'm told (for once) and remove that residue with a tissue and then rinse with warmish water.
Skin which feels a little bit clammy even when you've thoroughly rinsed it. If you rub your face with your hands and fingers afterwards it does have a slightly sticky feeling but that feeling does fade after about half an hour or so... naturally. Face is left not only smelling fresh but actually really looks it. Yep I was surprised at the results of this to be honest as I didn't expect anything for the price I paid lol
My skin looks really fresh and clean after using one of these. Blackheads look alot less on show, the majority of my open pores close up and I guess that sticky feeling firmed up my face a lot. After the sticky feeling vanishes I then use my usual moisturiser and make up if desired. Everything blends over the face so much easier after using this as skin is noticeably softer in feel and in appearance.
Do I Rate It?....
Well for freshening up the skin and giving it a cleaner feeling, most certainly I do. I feel like it unclogs grimy pores and after using it not only do I feel all of the above effects I actually do feel more relaxed and chilled out in general. This is something that I feel would be very beneficial detox product once a week particularly for teenagers and heavy make up wearers and party animals in general. I have very bad combination skin and am very prone to boil like spots and even though this claims to contain essential oils, them oils don't go out of their way to upset me! It's a great, fuss free product really!
Recommended to try!
