Montagne Jeunesse Sauna Masque
Advantages: Instant heating sensation feels wonderful on the skin
Disadvantages: Heating sensation disappeared too quickly and skin didn't feel any different following use
APPEARANCE OF THE PRODUCT
Whilst a number of their masques are presented to us in tubes, I would advise that I have always purchased the 15g sachets due to the fact that only a few varieties are available in a tube format. If you are familiar with Montagne Jeunesse facial products you will be aware of the extremely eye-catching curvy sachets, which measure approximately 16 cm in length and 9 cm in width. The company's logo is located in the upper left hand section and situated on the upper right hand side is the skin type for which the masque is best suited, which always tends to be for normal, oily and T-zone. We are advised that this masque, which is marketed as "anti-stress" and "red hot earth" will deep cleanse your pores.
A deep cerise colour has been used for the background of the packaging, which gives the impression of warmth and as usual we are able to witness an image of a female who isn't smiling as much on this one. Her face is laden with dark cerise coloured masque and her eyes have some strategically placed leaves with blobs of dark pink matter on top. I say "dark pink matter", as I haven't a clue what they actually are, as normally, if the masque contains raspberries or strawberries, then we would see the appropriate fruit balancing on her eyes.
In all honestly, when I arrived home with the masque I was having second thoughts, particularly as my biggest grumble with using face masques is the mess when attempting to remove them from my face. The last thing I want is to be totally calm and relaxed from using the product only to have the need to reach for my spray cleaner and cloth to wipe down my bathroom sink and taps!
MY EXPERIENCE OF USING SAUNA MASQUE
As I have long hair it is essential that I tie it into a tight ponytail at the back of my head and clip my fringe away from my forehead. There is nothing worse than applying my masque and having stray hairs attach themselves to the drying product, which I have previously tried to move out of the way with a cotton bud. Another point I would state here is that why is it that each time I apply a relaxing face that an area of my face starts to itch like mad and the more I try to ignore it the worse it becomes! I guess this is just one of life's annoying little mysteries!
It is important to read the directions for use each time you are using a different variety of face masque, particularly as some are applied to dampened skin and some to dry. We are advised that to enable us to get the full benefit of Sauna Masque we should thoroughly cleanse our skin with warm water only and leave wet when the masque should then be evenly applied to the face and neck. Obviously, care should be taken to avoid both the lip and eye areas. I would point out here that the reverse of the sachet advises that the colour of the contents may differ to that shown on the image on the front and this is due to the fact that natural ingredients are used when making the product. I was a little surprised that the front shows a female in a dark cerise masque yet the reverse shows a female in a light pink masque so I was somewhat curious to ascertain the masque's actual colour.
I couldn't wait to try this for the first time, particularly as I'm a real fan of OLAY's Regeneraist Daily Thermal Skin Polisher, which heats the minute it makes contact with your wet skin. The sachets are normally easily opened along the small length of perforations, but for some unknown reason, Montagne Jeunesse had failed to include a perforated area on my sachet, so I accidentally ripped the sachet straight down the middle, so my advice would be to use a pair of scissors.
The colour of the masque was a lighter pink than that displayed on the front of the sachet and darker than that on the rear and its' texture was a little gooey. However, the moment it made contact with my fingers I could feel its' instant heat, which was simply delightful as I applied it to my skin. The directions for use are that you relax for five minutes whilst the essential oils work their magic, so I trotted along to the bedroom and relaxed on my comfy bed to enable the masque to turn me into a supermodel!
Whilst the masque felt lovely on my skin I cannot state that I recognised any familiar aroma, which was a little disappointing. When I initially applied it I'm sure I could smell a very delicate rose fragrance, but this soon vanished. Another grumble I have is that the heating sensation only lasted for the length of time that it took me to apply all of the masque to my face and neck and I had hoped that it would last for the entire five minutes. As this is a sauna masque I was a little unsure if this would actually dry on my face and there is no information on the sachet to advise, as we are simply informed to rinse off after five minutes. Consequently, I returned to the bathroom and rinsed off the masque, which had not dried and this was relatively easy with minimal mess to the sink and taps!
Unfortunately, I felt Sauna Masque was neither here nor there, as I cannot state that I felt relaxed and there were a few grumbles I have with the product with the first being that Montagne Jeunesse have omitted to include the perforations to easily open the sachet, the barely there aroma, the fact that the masque should remain on the skin for only five minutes is not what I was class as "de-stressing" and my skin felt no different after using the product. As I had purchased two of these masques and do not believe in waste I used the second sachet the following week with Montagne Jeunesse recommending this product be used twice weekly. Whilst the initial sensation to the skin was gorgeous, particularly as it instantly heated, I feel this is a rather dull and boring product and it really was not the quality I was expecting from this company. Consequently, I cannot give it my recommendation, as it is not something I would choose to purchase again and as a result it receives only 2 stars from me. However, I would point out that my skin did not feel dry or tight after using, which is something I experience with some brands of face masques.
As with all of Montagne Jeunesse's products, this masque has been BUAV approved, which informs us that Montagne Jeunesse are a member of the Abolition of Vivisection and the Vegetarian Standard means that the products are not tested on animals. We are advised that the masque should be kept out of reach of children and that an irritancy test should be carried out prior to use, although I admit that this is not something that I have ever done, as I simply apply it to my skin and hope for the best! We are also informed that this product is for external use only although I cannot quite grasp the concept of trying it anywhere else! The empty sachet can be recycled once empty, although it is sometimes very difficult to remove the entire contents; something I found quite difficult with this one, particularly as it's fairly gooey.
I do not believe in copying long lists of ingredients into my reviews unless I feel there is anything that can cause specific problems. I can confirm that I suffered no adverse reactions when using this product and would advise that this masque contains natural ingredients, such as the extract from cactus, evening primrose and jasmine. I also note that there is walnut shelf extract, so I am of the opinion that this product is not suited for those with nut allergies. I have to say that I find it a little alarming that the details of the walnut shelf extract are provided in tiny letters on the reverse of the sachet and I am of the opinion that Montagne Jeunesse should clearly indicate this on the front to clearly alert the consumer, particularly as this could have serious consequences if accidentally used by someone suffering with this allergy.
