Montagne Jeunesse Sauna Masque
Advantages: Not many.
Disadvantages: Too hot, too heavy, difficult to remove, doesn't do anything for the skin.
I was given this masque last year as part of my birthday but I didn't get around to using it until recently as I don't use face masques on a regular basis even though I have a fair few in the drawer for whenever the mood takes me. However this is available from many retailers from supermarkets to drug stores for around the £1 mark. So there is wide availability and it's around the average price for a face masque these days.
The masque comes in a plastic foil pack. The design on the front is typical of Montagne Jeunesse with a picture of a woman with the masque over her face. It's busy and bright and rather appealing but none more so than any other masque I have used. To open you simply rip off the top of the packet and this reveals the red product inside. This particular masque is designed for normal and oily skin and claims to be self heating and stress relieving. I wasn't sure if it would actually do as it said it would but I was willing to give it a try. This is not tested on animals which I am pleased about as some other masques for the same price out there are tested on animals.
I had had a shower so my skin was clean and fresh with no make up or anything else lurking. I squeezed some of the masque onto my fingers, it's a very deep pink almost red colour which is very thick and feels almost like clay or an extremely thick cream yet it is smooth with no clumping. I applied this liberally to my face and almost instantly I could feel the heating sensation rippling over my skin. I did find this was a little too hot and it almost felt like I was sweating underneath the masque. It wasn't a particularly hot day so I can only attribute the sensation to the masque itself, I would have preferred is it wasn't so hot but some may find it the right temperature. I did find that the masque felt heavy on my face whilst I was using this, I didn't use the whole pack as there was just far too much and my skin had plenty on as it was so I hadn't overused but it did have some weight to it.
After around 5 or so minutes I removed this and I found it incredibly difficult, it was so thick and gunky that it took an age to remove all traces, I think it would probably be better getting under the shower to wash this off as it does take quite a while to remove. I didn't feel that my skin was tight or dry but it did feel very hot and my face was slightly red for a while after use. I applied my moisturiser which was instantly cooling on the hotness of my skin and left it to skin in over a period of time. My skin did feel soft and smooth after use but not any more so than using my general skincare routine. I also didn't feel that it had given a deep cleanse, I get a much better result using the honey and oat mask from The Body Shop and it feels much cleaner and definitely a better deep down clean that his masque just doesn't achieve. I didn't feel my skin was brighter than normal so I don't believe the claims that this cleans the purities out of your skin giving it a sauna feeling. I can do the exact same with a hot towel over my face.
I got a masque out of this and I could have got two but by the time I would have gotten round to it it would have been dried out so I binned it. I'm not very impressed with this masque and I wouldn't buy it for myself, it's too heavy on the skin and it's a bit too hot. I don't think it cleanses the skin or makes it any brighter so I personally wouldn't recommend it unless you like having a hot face.
Summary: Not a face masque to bother with.
