Advantages: gentle, soothing, moisturises and smoothes skin, nice fragrance
Disadvantages: very drippy and messy, shame the particles didn't give any exfoliation
I have tried the Montagne Jeunesse range before and really enjoy using their face masks as they are fun and the lovely descriptions on the packaging makes them sound very appealing. I was lucky enough to receive a whole bunch of different masques through a Facebook competition, and this Gel Cream Masque is the one I've used most recently. The masques are available to buy in most high street beauty stores and will cost around 99p for a 20ml sachet.
This item is described as a strawberry and cream anti-stress treatment with vegetarian collagen. Montagne Jeunesse say: "Cleanse, moisturise and rejuvenate. Get fresh as mild fruit acids deep cleanse & added vegetarian collagen and cream naturally moisturise for younger looking juicy clean, fresh skin."
Recommended directions for use: Thoroughly cleanse face, apply evenly with fingertips. Avoid eyes and lips. Leave on for 10-15 minutes and rinse with water. Pat dry. To aid moisturising this cream rich mask does not dry. Use weekly.
I like to give myself a good pampering when I am using a face mask, and these Montagne Jeunesse face masks always feel like a nice indulgent treat. To begin with, I made sure that all traces of make-up were fully removed and I then went about applying the mask. The packaging opens easily, so you can squeeze the pouch and the contents come out of the corner through the small tear. This helps to control how much product you want to come out of the packet.
The masque is a nice pale pink colour and has a gorgeous strong smell of strawberries. It is very sweet and in all respects reminded me of food - it looked, smelled and felt like I was covering my face in strawberry yoghurt! I love foody scents as I feel like they make my beauty treatments feel extra special, and I really enjoyed the fragrance as I was using the masque.
The masque is very different to the other Montagne Jeunesse products that I've used before. The consistency was quite thin and light, and although it was easy to spread over my face I could only build up a thin layer and it did not stay in place very well. As I left the masque on for it to get to work over the 15 minutes, it became somewhat irritating as the liquid would start running down my face in some areas, in particular onto my lips and down the sides of my nose. This not only caused a rather uncomfortable feeling but it was very distracting and I ended up wiping the masque away in some places to stop the dripping. This meant that I then lost some of the benefit of applying the masque, but it was more enjoyable this was and reduced the amount of mess from drips.
Montagne Jeunesse pride themselves on using natural ingredients, and with this one I was able to see evidence of the real strawberries used as the masque also included loads of tiny little strawberry seeds. I had hoped that these small particles would help to give my face a bit of a scrub and provide an exfoliating effect, but actually I could barely feel them at all at any stage, not during application, waiting time, or removing.
This should be left on for 10-15 minutes to allow it to really get to work on your skin. I left it on for the full 15 minutes and by this time the masque was still creamy and moist, and it had not dried out or gone patchy. After I had washed it away my skin still felt like there was a light residue left behind, but a quick sweep of toner removed this and left me feeling clean and fresh. The masque was really soothing and gentle on my skin, which was great as I'm currently managing a bit of a flare up that has caused some sensitivity and redness. My skin felt moisturised, smoothed and if I may say so myself, my complexion looked flawless. I think the results are fantastic and it's well worth giving this masque a try if your skin is in need of some pampering.
Usually these face masques contain far too much of the product and there is always some leftover which gets wasted if you do not store it and re-use correctly. This sachet contained 20mls of product which is more than usual and I managed to get two full applications from the one packet by wrapping the open sachet in cling-film and then storing it in the fridge until the following week when I used it again. This makes it even better value for money, and is an affordable and effective skin treatment.
This Gel Cream Masque gives excellent results and is a bargain beauty buy. I'm not sure I would choose to buy this one regularly as I felt that the dripping was really off-putting and reduced the enjoyment that I usually get from my little home spa sessions, but it really does work and I would recommend it if your skin needs a soothing treatment .

Summary: A messy moisturising masque
