Montagne Jeunesse Strawberry Souffle Masque
Advantages: Smells gorgeous, leaves my skin soft and refreshed
Disadvantages: The mask isn't bright pink!!!
I like a nice face mask but don't tend to use them often these days, preferring a good daily skincare regime and not really having a spare thirty minutes or so to spend on applying and removing the mask as often as I'd like. This leads me to just avoid them pretty much completely, treating myself to a nice Lush fresh mask here and there but otherwise not bothering. I only used this Strawberry Souffle one because it was a freebie in the post and none of the kids were around, my sachet is a small 5ml mask which was enough for one application - the Montagne Jeunesse face mask range are generally sold in 20g sachets so in theory by buying the larger one you could get four applications, it never quite works like that though and you'll more likely get a maximum of three thin ones.
Strawberry Souffle is a really nice smelling mask; it smells of natural strawberries but also of strawberry milkshake, which I assume is thanks to the fact that the sub-name of the mask is 'Strawberry & Whipped Cream' and these two ingredients would create such a smell in my opinion. It's delicious anyway, I wouldn't describe it as a particularly pampering fragrance but it's light and cheerful - probably more of a summertime smell than I'd like in mid-December, but then it's been in my drawer for six months so that's my fault!
The mask isn't the vibrant pink shown on the front of the Montagne Jeunesse sachet but a much paler pink which reminded me of baby lotion, I found this irrationally disappointing actually but got over it (ha!) and proceeded to apply the thick smelly cream. It has a really lovely consistency, being light but with substance to create a strong feminine product - the strawberry scent sets this off a treat and on the whole I just think this is a fab face mask from an application point of view. Although this isn't mentioned on the sachet itself, there are strawberry seeds in the face mask which act to exfoliate and polish the skin - they're absolutely tiny and produce nothing more than the vaguest scratchy feeling so I'm not convinced they actually do anything, my skin didn't feel polished or deeply cleansed after use and this made the addition of the seeds seem a little gimmicky.
I relaxed with my Kindle for fifteen minutes and allowed the face mask to work its magic, feeling utterly chilled out and enjoying the rich strawberry scent which seemed to intensify the longer the mask was on my face. Parts of the mask tightened after a few minutes but this didn't become uncomfortable; I realised at rinsing time that these tightening areas were where the mask had dried, which surprised me as I had thought the entire mask would retain its creamy consistency - maybe the layer was too thin from this small sachet as the mask dried in a funny cracked way which leads me to believe it's a mask that shouldn't be allowed to dry out at all, if that makes sense.
It's easy enough to rinse if you use the damp cloth method. Forget throwing water on your face like in the adverts, the only thing this will achieve is a wet floor and (particularly with the darker ones) face mask splashes all over the place. Dampen a clean cloth and use it to wipe the mask from your skin, rinsing the cloth under running water rather than in a bowl - once you've got the bulk of the mask off simply use another damp cloth to rinse away the rest. No mess, no fuss. A quick splash with cool water and you'll have skin which looks and feels toned and refreshed, with the added advantage of not turning your bathroom into a miniature swimming pool.
My skin feels absolutely lovely after using Strawberry Souffle, and also smells amazing! My skin is soft, smooth and has the feeling of healthiness about it - I found my skin was a little pink after rinsing but this soon settled down and within thirty minutes my skin had its usual tone again. I wouldn't have felt comfortable going out with such pink skin and feel my usual foundation wouldn't have covered this, so would recommend you apply this face mask with plenty of time to spare if you're using it prior to a night out. I think the main benefit to my skin is that it feels refreshed after use, the feeling doesn't last for too long and by the following evening I couldn't feel or see any improvement in my skin - this isn't an issue however as I appreciate Montage Jeunesse aren't the height if luxury, so if I can obtain good results in the short term then that's good enough for me!
