WHAT THE MASK IS SUPPOSED TO DO
This particular mask is said to be moisturising and purifying. It is supposed to leave my skin not only refreshed but "clarified, toned and smoother." Perfect! My skin is of the combination type, with oily t zone areas and drier cheeks. I usually chose deep cleansing formulations but as I have recently tried some masks that didn't really deliver on that point, I thought I would see how a standard mask would deal with my large nose pores.
The mask comes in a simple sachet with lots of lovely looking pictures of strawberries on the front. Like all MJ products, this mask does actually contain the ingredients that are it's stated "flavour" - in this case strawberries. It also contains vanilla, aloe vera, peach kernal oil and walnut shell powder, along with clay. Opening the packet is easy, and I prefer to just cut a small opening in a corner. This is because the sachet is generously filled whiich is typical of MJ products. There is far more inside than I need to cover my face, even when I do so thickly. So having only a small opening makes storage of the left overs easier.
PLASTERING MY FACE
The first thing I noticed when I squeezed out the mask was the aroma. It does smell of strawberries, but to me it is more the scent of strawberry milkshake rather than the fresh fruit. The scent is sweet and I can just about detect the vanilla too. It is a pleasant combination and not as sickly as it could have been. This is important considering it is going to be applied close to my nose and stay there for some time. In actual fact the scent died away by the time I came to remove the mask but it had lingered long enough for me to enjoy it. The second thing I noticed was the masks gritty texture. I could see little "bits" in the mask which I realised were too large and granular to be strawberry seeds. It is then that I read the packet and noticed the presence of the walnut powder. Thankfully I don't suffer from a nut allergy! I am sure that those that do are used to closely reading packets for the unexpected inclusion of nuts. The walnut pieces are presumably there to act as an exfoliant, and they make applying the mask feel like using a gentle facial scrub. Importantly, they don't feel harsh or rough when the mask is applied to the skin. I did so a bit more carefully than I would normally, just in case. The rest of the mask has a thick creamy texture which feels rather silky. It is easy to spread out and thankfully it doesn't have a messy or drippy consistency. You can stand up without your mask sliding off even when it is freshly applied. You are instructed to leave the mask in place for 15-20 minutes, during which time it slowly tightens and hardens. It never gets to the point of becoming uncomfortable, which would defeat the purpose of what to me is a relaxing treat.
Washing it off didn't take long and I wasn't left with any residue. My face felt amazingly fresh and clean and I felt that would like to use this mask as a novel way of waking up and feeling refreshed at the beginning of the day. Happily, my skin looked as good as it felt. It looked immediately clear and radiant - I didn't have to wait for my face to settle down before noticing an improvement as sometimes happens. My pores did look clean, which is more than I expected for a mask that doesn't specifically promise deep cleansing. I had already used a cleanser before using the mask, so I was starting from a shine free base, but I did think that my skin remained that way for longer after having used Strawberry Souffle. I was pleased with how soft and smooth my facial skin felt to the touch too. It really did feel moisturised, to the point that I didn't feel the need to follow the mask with a seperate moisturiser. The feeling didn't last much beyond the next day though. I would say the radiance lasted about 48 hours which isn't as long as other masks for me. The sachet instructions suggest the mask is suitable for weekly use, but that wouldn't be frequent enough to maintain results for me.
I would use this when I wanted a quick and pleasantly scented pick-me-up sort of mask, but it won't replace my favourite ones that offer longer lasting effects. I can imagine some people not enjoying the more grainy feel to the mask, although I was only really aware of it when I was actually putting it on. I am not sure the walnut adds much if it is supposed to exfoliate, because I didn't masage the mask it in like I would a scrub. Nevertheless, if you don't mind "bits" in your mask, give this one a try for clearer and softer skin. You can buy MJ masks in most places that sell beauty products, including Superdrug, Boots, Wilkinson and Savers where they cost around £1. They are often on multi buy offers somewhere though.

Summary: A mask that is good for a quick skin pick me up but the results may not last long
