If you've read some of my other reviews you'll see that I'm a bit of a fan of Neal's Yard Remedies. A big part of the reason for this is that they are one of the few (although ever-increasing in number) companies that have a non-animal testing policy, which is very important to me.
Their products are quite expensive though, this one will cost you around £20 for 50ml but luckily, it was given to me as a gift.
The packaging is a small round glass jar. The glass is tinted dark blue and is quite chunky. It has a screw top lid which I prefer for moisturisers as it is easy then to get exactly the amount you want to apply. On the whole the packaging gives the impression of quality.
The only downside to the jar I would say is that as it is quite heavy it makes me reluctant to take it with me when I'm travelling.
The main ingredients of the moisturiser are:
Rose extract and rose oil
Ylang ylang oil
These make for a lovely, fresh-smelling scent. It is definitely flowery, I think the rose contained within does overpower, but you can smell the mallow too and overall it is a really nice smell to have on your face.
The cream itself is rich and thick. It absorbs easily and immediately smoothes and softens the skin. I tend to use this moisturiser in the mornings after I have washed my face. I find it luxurious to apply and it leaves my skin feeling refreshed and smooth and not at all greasy. Better still, I have used it during the worst winter weather and I spend a lot of time outside - this cream really lasts and I feel that it protects my skin from the elements. In the evenings after a day braving the worst of the weather, I can still feel it on my skin which has not gone dry and flaky as can often happen when I'm out in the cold and wind.
Although it is expensive, you don't need to use a lot. This lasted me a couple of months with daily use and I definitely think my skin feels better for the experience. It has also not given me spots, which can be the case with some richer creams. In fact I finished it about a week ago and started using a different product and lo and behold, a spot has appeared!
I do think it's quite expensive, although you clearly get what you pay for as this is a quality product. It's just that I rarely justify spending this much on a moisturiser for myself. As the packaging is so nice though, it makes an excellent gift (Mother's Day is coming....!)
