“ Brand: Neal's Yard Remedies / Texture: Cream / Type: Night Cream / What it does: Protects, Nourishes / Contents/Size: 50g „
So I still love my beauty products. I sadly do not have so much money to spend out on them these days (being a student) but I did treat myself to this very luxurious night moisturiser.
Neal's Yard Remedies is a brand I absolutely love, they are organic and natural. They contain no mineral oils, parabens, synthetic fragrances or colours as well as no silicones. So it sounds good already!
Well this is a Vitamin E and Avocado Night Moisturising Cream. It deeply nourishes the skin and to my amazement is for all skin types. I say this because rarely are moisturises for all skin types these days and it is quite a thick cream so I thought my combination skin might freak out from it. But no my skin loves it! I know this because my skin feels very smooth, hydrated and above all I haven't had any horrible break outs since using it which is a big plus for me. I also have a very sensitive skin and I have absolutely no problems or irritations from this problem.
Benefits of Ingredients
So what interests me is what the two main ingredients do for skin:
Vitamin E: The first thing to know is that it is supposed to be great for skin conditions, scarring and decreasing the signs of ageing because it is a great anti imflammatory. It does this through preventing environmental damage to skin and it can help to protect against UV rays. It is of course a fantastic moisturising agent which is why it is often found in hand creams and in other moisturisers. A last point on Vitamin E is how well known it is for being easily absorbed into the skin and not leaving a horrible greasy residue like some thick moisturisers do.
Now onto the skin benefits of avocado:
Avocado oil is known to give good benefits to the skin which is why it is often used in face masks. Avocado oil is great for dry skin or skin suffering from conditions like dermatitis. Avocado also contains lots of vitamins which all have their advantages such as vitamin A which helps to soften the skin and help to restore youthfulness through giving a nice healthy glow.
So it all sounds great to me!! The moisturiser also contains wheatgerm, almond, and other herbal extracts.
When I first picked up a tester pot of this moisturiser in the shop I thought that the avocado might be overpowering but I was pleasantly surprised. The cream smells fresh and earthy and green (if that is a descriptive word).
Now to the price point, it isn't the cheapest cream on the market but it isn't ridiculous either: £21.00 for a 50g pot. The Neal's Yard Remedie's pots look lovely with their large logo on the top and I find it an easy pot to get the product out of. (Please note the photograph on here is not an up to date one). I love the smell of it as I open the lid. This moisturiser can be bought on the Neal's Yard Remedies Website, or from a Neal's Yard Remedies consultant, or from their shop. Some other places sell it like a department store called Hoopers near to me.
I think this could be used as a day cream as well, I have used it during the day. It seems strange that vitamin E is known for protecting against UV rays yet it is put into a night time moisturiser. As I mentioned it is not a greasy moisturiser despite how thick it feels and it didn't seem to make my makeup slide off during the day either or look shiny which was great! I have tried many so called mattifying moisturisers in the past which are very much the opposite so this moisturiser is an absolute winner for me.
I do not mind paying around £20.00 for something that works for me! Especially as I feel that this moisturiser will last a very long time. I've had it for over 4 weeks now and it barely looks like it has been touched. I think this is partially because it is a thick cream and so a little goes a long way.
An additional plus point is that my boyfriend loves it, I often put it on him at night, I think males should look after their skin like females. But I do control how much goes onto his face! (I won't allow him to be smothering it all over his face and neck uncontrollably as it isn't a £5.00 moisturiser!)
My Mum's View Too
I can also comment on this moisturiser on behalf of somebody who has dry skin = my mum. She bought this two weeks ago after I was raving about it. She has excessively dry and dehydrated skin and she finds it hard to find a moisturiser that makes her feel like she has put any moisturiser on. Her view is that it is great, despite it being easily absorbed it feels like her skin has been moisturised and she loves the smell of it and finds it helps her drift off to sleep. So on that note I think this moisturiser is great for all skin types.
I understand that this isn't the cheapest moisturiser but I must say that it does what it says on the pot which many moisturisers do not seem to do. I would highly recommend this moisturiser for somebody with combination skin who does not want a greasy t-zone but who also wants their cheeks and forehead to be well moisturised. I could not rate this highly enough and I will certainly be adding a few pots to my Christmas list!
I am an 'outdoorsy' type, so my face needs all the help it can get when it comes to moisturising. I do particularly like a rich night cream so that it can 'do its work' whilst I am sleeping and give my poor face a much needed drink. If you have read some of my other skin care reviews you'll know that I also only buy products which have not been tested on animals and Neal's Yard Remedies do adhere to a non animal testing policy on all of their products so I know I can confidently buy anything from them. When I say buy, I more often mean 'be given as a gift' as Neal's Yard are quite expensive, more on that later.
----- Packaging -----
All the products I have got from Neal's Yard are beatifully packaged and this is no exception. It comes in a heavy, glass jar which is tinted dark blue. It gives a real feeling of quality as it is nice and chunky, the only problem being that this isn't a good product to take away with you, or put in your bag, as it is too heavy. It is a screw top lid and then you get the cream out with your fingers so it is easy to get exactly the right amount that you need.
------ The Cream -----
This is a night cream and is supposed to 'deeply nourish and soothe' all skin types. First impressions are that it has a lovely, fresh smell (I don't think it smells of avocado at all) and is a thick, rich cream. When I apply it I find that it absorbs easily but not so much that you don't feel you have a cream on. When I have washed my face in the evening and it feels 'thirsty', this cream immediately soothes and continues to soothe. It leaves my skin feeling smooth and fresh but not greasy although I can feel it is there. In the morning after a night's sleep, my skin still feels smooth and hydrated. I used it every night until the jar was finished and it didn't give me spots as some creams can, and I did feel that it improved the feel of my skin.
----- Ingredients -----
This is a vegan product, with 19% oganically produced ingredients. It contains oils of avocado, almond, geranium, lemon, wheatgerm and jojoba, with extracts of mallow and comfrey. Mallow is a new one on me, I have had other products of theirs with this in and I have to say I really like it - it adds to the smell to make it a tiny bit sweet - not in an yukky way though, this does smell great which is important when you're putting something on your face as you can smell it all night!
----- Price -----
Neal's Yard products ain't cheap, that's for sure. This one will set you back around £20 for 50g. The jar did last me a while, a few weeks. You don't need to use a lot because it is a nice, rich cream. But this was given to me as a gift and I'm not sure I'd go out and spend that much on a product for myself.
----- Summary -----
A lovely, rich cream which smooths and soothes skin without being greasy and does last the night. It is presented nicely in smart, quality packaging. Quite pricey though, would make a great gift. I love it and I hope I get given it again!
