I have never really understood the uses and effects of toner and have always had an on/off relationship with it. My first love, Boot's cucumber toner broke my heart after a long year long relationship but I managed to rebound with a Neutrogena Visibly Clear Toner (a flirtatious short two month fling), only to end up cheating with Natio Rose water toner but now we're back to Neutrogena, a relationship I hope can last. Admittedly, I am still a toner noob. Having oily skin, all these toners I have used are mild; I have never used astringent (should I?) as I didn't want excess oil production due to drying. But anyway, here I am with a full bottle of Neutrogena alcohol free toner, ready to be swept off my feet- could this be the one? Appearance wise, the toner is somewhat average. Housed in a light blue bottle with a white cap, it's the average Joe. But we mustn't judge a book by its cover now should we? I'm sick of those who are full of words, but perhaps this time it is different. This toner promises to remove the skin of its impurities whilst keeping its natural moisture. Still, I cling on to the saying, "actions speak louder than words". On our first date, the toner flirted with my skin, a light soft sensation with a cooling effect. It was gentle and the transparent watery toner evaporated ever so quickly. The perfume it wore was subtle but sweet, and the night ended well with kiss on the cheek, a slight prick where a spot resided. The next day I was on cloud nine. I noticed less oil production in the skin and no spot outbreaks had occurred (despite a recent binge on junk food getting over my last toner). My new relationship was addictive. I couldn't stop. Every day, I embraced my new toner and now it has been two weeks since we first met. I am happy with the bond we share, but promises have to be kept. Whilst the natural moisture of my face does seem to be maintained, I am frustrated at the remaining impurities I was hopeful of getting rid of. I suffer from blackheads which I cleanse with a scrub, but the toner is supposed to tighten pores, which has not happened. They say relationships takes work, so I guess I am willing to work it out with my new toner. But I know for sure this isn't the one, so how long will this affair last? ~~~BORING STUFF~~~ Cost- around £10 Size- 200ml
My skin is not truly clean unless I use this toner. I use several different types of cleansers and they all work well but I use this toner after I cleanse and it gets rid of any residual dirt or makeup and very lightly exfoliates my skin by getting rid of dead skin cells on the surface. I have combination to oily skin and this toner works great for me. This does not dry me out yet cleans out the excess make up fantastically. I love that this is alcohol free--it doesn't sting and is incredibly gentle. I was surprised to find such excess residue on my face from makeup even after cleansing. This toner left my face refreshed and clean. After a week of use, I've noticed my pores are smaller and makeup is going on smoother and staying on longer. It comes in a nice sized bottle, so it lasts a while. The toner is also very moisturizing. It has a lovely clean smell aswell. The result is smooth clean skin that is ready for a treatment product and/or makeup application. I will not be without this toner and have tried more expensive brands but always come back to this since it works so well despite the fact that it's simple and inexpensive.
