Advantages: Softening, forms a protective barrier to shield against dryness.
Disadvantages: Is not a cream, it's a balm!
I was recently given this product, Neutrogena Hand Cream, by a friend who said she had bought it and then never used it. When she gave me it I suspected the product had actually been her husbands as the packaging design looked rather masculine. However, I started using the product straight away and now use it regularly.
The product I have is the Neutrogena Hand Cram in a concentrated and unscented formula. It is slightly different from the Dooyoo picture in that the cap is red. I have a small sized 50ml tube. However, since it's made to be concentrated this actually supplies up to 200 applications. As I mentioned, I do feel the packaging design makes it look like this is a man's product but there is nothing in the way the product performs that would suggest this.
The tube is a soft malleable type of plastic, made for easy squeezing. There is information on both the front and back of the tube. On the front it states that this cream gives "instant relief" of dry hands and that "just a dab" is required for it to be effective. The back of the tube is printed with full ingredients, addresses for the brand and some further information about the brand.
Neutrogena state that this cream gives "immediate and lasting relief" for all hands including ones that are severely chapped and mottled. They explain that the glycerine rich formula can also protect hands from environmental conditions and leave hands feeling soft and smooth.
I have used a couple of Neutrogena products in the past and in general they are a brand I trust and respect. Having used this product I would agree with most of what's written on the tube. Except one major thing. This is not a cream: it's a balm. If you are familiar with glycerine you'll know it's a transparent waxy kind of substance that is common in things like lip balm recipes. The texture of this product is a lot like Vaseline. It's clear in colour and has a jelly type texture. When you rub it into skin it forms a barrier over the top of the skin more than it actually sinks into the skin. When the term 'cream' is used you generally expect something white and milky and something that will absorb into the skin rather than act like a protective balm or wax.
Having said this I like the product, it works and it does what it says it will do. It is easy to apply and you really don't need very much to spread across the hands. Due to the waxy nature of the product it's better to apply to the back of your hands only as if you put it under fingers and palms your hands get very slippery and feel greasy. On the knuckles, backs of fingers and back of hand though it's perfect. It softens skin immediately and changes the way dull dry skin looks, transforming it into healthy, peachy skin. It also seems to offer an extra level of protection that normal moisturiser lotions cannot. It feels really calming and healing too.
I have been using this product, which I am loathe to keep calling a 'cream', during the summer months and it is very good on hands that have been abused by sun bathing and outdoor work. I imagine though that this product will work best in the winter time when you really need that protective layer over the skin.
I was given this product free but the product is on sale in Boots chemist stores for £3.50 for the same sized tube. I would probably buy this in the future now that I know how the product performs and it's qualities but if I'd bought this myself thinking it was a cream I might be a bit annoyed! I would recommend to anyone who works outdoors or for whatever reason ends up with dry hands which need to be treated on a regular basis.
Summary: Effective hand balm!
