Disadvantages: Needs to be used daily / bi-daily to be effective.
BACKGROUND
I recently ran out of my previous moisturiser, Simple Derma, and decided to go back to Boots and look for something else. I do not like to use the same cream over and over again as my skin gets used to it and the cream looses its effect. After standing at the moisturiser stand for about 15 minutes, I decided on the Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Comfort Balm as I had heard nothing but good things about this brand's hand cream. On this basis, I though the rest of the range would be equally as good.
APPEARANCE
The packaging is quite simple and basic, it is definitely no Soap & Glory, but it is not unappealing. The colours used on the tub are white, red and blue ... sticking to primary and neutral colours makes is appealing to both genders in my opinion. The reason I chose this product compared to others on the shelf that were in tubes or had pump dispensers is that you can get to every last drop as it is simply a screw top tub.
EASE OF USE
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to apply cream, but us ladies and you metrosexual gents will know that sometimes it is not as easy as you may think. The lid comes of easily as sit is screw top and it is equally as easy to put back on, even with creamy hands. Once the lid is off, you just wipe your finger on the top layer of cream and apply to the desired area. The cream spreads quite easily, so a little bit does go a long way (yes this is the catch phrase of all moisturisers).
EFFECTIVENESS
This is crunch time, does the product work? Yes, after a fashion. This is one of those creams that are great if you are dedicated to moisturisers, but will not give the desired results to those that moisturise once a week.
As the sun is just starting to come out, my legs have been a little neglected over the winter months and have become visibly dry. I applied a thin layer of cream, it absorbed quickly (less than 2 minutes) but then 15 minutes, my legs looked visibly dry again. A week later, after using the cream twice a day (morning and night) my legs are lovely and soft.
As this is a face and body cream, I also use it on my face, which is always regularly moisturised. My face feels lovely and smooth and soft. I have not had problems with any break outs, rashes or dry patches since I started using this product.
EXPECTATIONS
The one thing I noticed when I opened the tub was that it was a cream, the label says "balm" so I was expecting a more solid clear solution. To me a balm, is a lip balm, something that has a petroleum jelly texture to it. This is most definitely a cream, it is quite thick but light at the same time ... I like the texture but it is a little misleading to call it a "balm".
PRICE
I got the 300ml size of the product from Boots for £6.12, my first thought was 12p ... such an odd amount. I think that £6.12 is a fair price to pay for a cream, not exactly a budget buy though. At the time that I bought the product, it was on 3for2 with all other skincare products .... I thought this was a good promotion as usually you are just limited to one particular range and end up buying something you don't really need or use for the third item.
OVERVIEW
I think this cream is a good cream for maintaining soft and supple skin day after day, but you are better off looking elsewhere if you want to a cream to magically moisturiser your winter legs or forgotten feet for a night out.
Summary: Not so much of a "balm" but a decent cream.
