“ Brand: Neutrogena / Type: Blemish Control / What it does: Cleanses / Product line: Neutrogena Visibly Clear „
As I suffer from extremely sensitive skin, for myself to find skin products that work its an endless task: Having been recommended these by a friend who swore by them I thought it would be at least worth a try.
If what you are after is a quick way to wash your face I would recommend these as a must, but if you are looking to really clean deep down and remove blackheads then they do leave a little to be desired.
The cushions have a great texture and a great smell, and although they made my skin feel smooth they really didn't help in the way of blemish control. Another down side to the cushions is that they come dry and you have to wet them yourself which I found meant either most of the product washed off or ran down your hands when wiping across your face.
If you are looking for a general all purpose back up plan for the bathroom cupboard then I think I would have to recommend that you use them but if you plan to take them away with you I think you would be better taking good old fashioned face wipes, and if you are after good blemish control there are other products on the market that I found worked better.
I used to suffer quite badly from teenage acne, but as I have got older this has cleared up and I now only get occasional spots. I do still however suffer from blocked pores and the occasional blackhead.
I was in Superdrug a few months back looking for some make up remover, when I noticed they had a 3 for 2 deal on the Neutrogena Visibly Clear range. Being the sucker for an offer that I am, I picked up some face wipes, make up remover and these blackhead cleansing cushions. I've got through a couple of boxes of them now, so figured I could now accurately write a review.
***Neutrogena Visibly Clear Blackhead Eliminating Daily Cleansing Cushions***
The cushions come in a grey and orange box, with a lift up lid. The pads are in a cellophane wrapper within the box. The box isn't exactly waterproof, so I wouldn't recommend storing them in your bathroom if it gets particularly steamy.
You get 22 cushions in a box, so enough for daily usage for 3 weeks. This seems slightly strange to me - I would have preferred that they come as 30 in a box, that way there would be enough for a month.
Side 1: Glycerin, Aqua, PEG-80 Sorbitan Laurate, PEG-8 Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Disodium Lauromaphodiacetate, Decyl Glucoside, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Lauryl Methyl Gluceth-10 Hydroxypropyldimonium Chloride, Citric Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Parfum, CL77891, CL15985.
Side 2: Glycerin, Aqua, Cocoglycerides, Myristyl Alcohol, PEG-80 Sorbitan Laurate, PEG-8, Glyceryl Laurate, Stearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Disodium Lauroamphodiacetate, Decyl Glucoside, Menthyl Lactate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Distereal Ether, Salicylic Acid, Lauryl Methyl Gluceth-10 Hydroxypropyldimonium Chloride, Citric Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone.
Depending on when/where you buy them, a box is around £4.50. That works out at about 20p a pad - which isn't horrendous.
The box promises that the pads will prevent and eliminate blackheads, and leave skin "softer, smoother and clearer." According to the box, one side of the pad exfoliates, and the other side contains blackhead fighting ingredients.
The cushions come in a grey and orange box, with a lift up lid. The pads are in a cellophane wrapper within the box.
The pads are about 8cm across. The first side (the exfoliating side) has raised orange dots. The second side looks like a cotton pad with a wave pattern on it. There is a pocket between the two sides, which allows you to easily put 3 fingers in to use the pad.
The pads are really simple to use. You put your fingers into the pocket, and then put it under warm water, until it's wet. You use the beaded side first to exfoliate and then use the other side as this contains "blackhead fighting ingredients". When you feel sufficiently clean you rinse your face of the soap.
***Personal opinions and uses***
I tend to use these pads in the shower - just makes my morning routine a bit quicker. I find that the pocket in the pad is a bit too big for 3 fingers and a bit too small for 4 fingers; this means when it's wet it does tend to slip about on my fingers a little bit.
When you use it, the first side does put a sort of soapy substance on your face so that it cleans your face. The second side is really soft, and feels more like you are just washing your face with a cotton pad.
After rinsing, my skin did appear a little bit red - but then my skin reacts to everything! My skin felt soft and smooth - so it lived up to that bit, but it did feel a little bit tight too due to the salicylic acid. It didn't magically get rid of my black heads, but after using it for a little while I did notice that my pores were less visible, and less blocked, and I was getting fewer blackheads.
These pads are great as a quick and convenient way of cleansing your face, and have the added benefit of slightly reducing the appearance and occurrence of blackheads. They're great to take for an overnight stay or holiday as they're light and just need water to work. However they are not good enough at reducing blackheads that they should be bought just for this purpose.
Since hitting puberty I've always had problems with my skin.
I've suffered with mild acne, black heads and a strange mixture of greasy yet flaky skin. Every girls nightmare!
Although I've been prescribed treatment by the doctor for mild acne which has worked, I'd still struggled to find something that would combat my blackheads. Then I came across this.
Despite reading some bad reviews and finding little if any good reviews about this product, I thought I'd give it a go!
Anything on the supermarket/chemists shelves claiming to defeat blackheads, I've tried and tested it. Without any success.
So one afternoon, on my weekly shop at Tesco's I popped "Neutrogena Visibly Clear Blackhead Eliminating Cushions" into my trolley hoping I hadn't thrown more money down the drain.
The box contains 22 cushions which are claimed to be gentle enough for everyday use. "Good" I think, my terribly sensitive skin needs just that.
So next morning, I venture bleary eyed into the bathroom to begin yet another new skincare routine hoping to banish the blackheads once and for all! The cushions are round in shape and double sided with a pouch for you to slip your fingers in... for ease of use I'd give 5 stars alone. With these cushions you can't accidently tip your bottle over and lose half the product and you use just the amount you need every time.
Pushing my fingers into the cushion and under the running water, I take a deep breath and hope for a miracle!
Step 1: Rub the orange beaded side in circular motions over your face to create a lather. This is the exfoliation bit which is supposed to remove make-up, oil and anything else clogging up your pores. Stings a tad at first but that old saying 'pain is beauty' pops into my head.
Step 2: Use the wavy cleansing side to massage your face. This is the side with the blackhead fighting ingredients. Ahhh, the massage is what I needed after all that rubbing!
After this my face does feel like it's had a good facial. I rinse the remaining lather with warm water and pat my face dry.
I look in the mirror and am actually quite pleased with the result! My face looks nice and fresh (although my neck is a little stiff... should've rinsed the lather properly!).
I look down at the pad I've used and am horrified to see it looking quite grubby...my skin wasn't that bad was it???
I continued using the pads daily and was pleased to see they have made a difference. My skin is looking clearer and my T-zone (which was the problem area) is now alot calmer.
Yes, at £5odd a box they're quite expensive... but a box will last you 3 weeks. And the results are worth it.
I would definately recommend this product, perhaps I'm the only one but if like me, you've tried everything without success, what harm is it going to do to try something else?
I am writing this review on behalf of my boyfriend, as I bought these for him to get rid of those stubborn blackheads. They are quite pricey as cost about £4.50 and you only get 22 cushions in the box, so not even a months worth. Howvere I still decided to buy them because I thought thye were by a reputable brand (and I use their stuff quite a lot) and also they claimed to totally eliminate blackheads...disappointing.
You simply place your finger into the pocket within the cushion, and one side has an exfoliation side, the other has the blackhead fighting ingredients. You start with the exfolaition side and rub in water and rub on your afce to later it up and the little beads exfoliate skin, and do remove dead skin and make skin smoother. Then you use the other side to massage all over your face and elimate the blackheads... but this didnt happen. Apparentely skin feels clearer, and is smoother but thr blackheads didnt really go anywhere, so was dissappointing especially for the price paid. Will try something else.
I've been looking for years to find a product that actually eliminates blackheads, and I'm still searching. When I bought the Visibly Clear cushions I thought they would be effective because they're a product of Neutrogena, a very popular brand, but I was disappointed.
These can be bought from Superdrug for £4.49 so they're not too cheap, but you do get a box of 22 daily cleansing cushions. The product claims to eliminate blackheads and prevent their return. The cushions are round and are just a little smaller than a beer mat so they're a decent size. On the one side there are lots of small raised orange dots, these are to exfoliate. The otherside is smooth and wavey and contains the blackhead fighting ingredients.
To use, put two fingers in the finger pocket and dampen with warm water. Exfoliate your face with the beaded size by massaging in circular movements for a couple of minutes. Keep dampening the cushion to activate the creamy lather which prevents rubbing your skin raw. Once exfoliated, rinse your face and massage with the wavey side for a couple of minutes. By adding more water to the product you get a better lather and you really feel like you're doing something effective for your skin. This process can get a little messy so it may be best to try this in the shower and it's suggested you get the best results by using daily. Because you only get 22 cushions in a pack this can be very expensive. I tend to reuse the cushions once of twice, so perhaps after use leave these somewhere to dry out but after 2/3 uses they do lose their effectiveness and ability to lather.
After using these my skin does feel smoother and fresher, though a little dry so make sure you moisturise daily. Although it left my skin generally feeling cleaner, I found no difference to the pesky annoying little blackheads on my nose (eugh). I was disappointed by this because the product does say that it will eliminate them, but that never happened. They're only slightly fragranced but it's hardly noticeable and they haven't irritated my skin at all. Overall, it's a good product to freshen, exfoliate and clean your skin, but don't expect miracles. I think they're too pricey for what they are when they didn't do what I bought them for, but it's worth trying because I'm sure products will work differently on different types of skin. If anyone does know a good product that actually gets rid of blackheads though, I'd love to hear about it! :)
I was in Superdrug a little while ago and I saw these 'Blackhead Eliminating Daily Cleansing Cushions' and I thought they looked great! I have some blackheads on my nose and chin so I bought these and off I went home eager to try them out.
The packaging is quite attractive. The product comes in a cardboard box which has a lid that lifts up and reveals the face pads inside in a clear plastic bag. The box has 'Visibly Clear' written on the top of it with information about the product written along the sides. It has the classic orange Neutrogena colour covering the top half of the top of the box and the rest of the box in a silver/grey colour.
You get 22 of these cleansing cushions in the pack. They are circular is shape and are two soft cottonwool-like cylinders attached together with a space at the bottom like a pocket so you can fit your fingers inside in order to be able to use them with ease.
You use both sides of the cushion to clean your face. You start with the side which has tiny little orange beads on it which are meant to exfoliate your face. This creates a nice lather, and then you turn the pad over and use the smooth side which has 'blackhead fighting ingredients'.
As soon as I had used them my skin started stinging and my face went red and blotchy. I applied moisturiser but it still stung and felt tender for a couple of hours. The next day my skin was fine again so I thought maybe I'll give it another go, and I did. Unfortunately the same thing happened. And on top of that I didn't even get to clear my blackheads up since I had had this reaction! I gave these away to one of my friends. She hasn't seemed to have had any problems with these so I will put it down to my skin type. Which is actually normally quite good! It states on the packet 'gentle enough for everyday use' but I guess these just disagreed with me. I wouldn't recommend these if you have sensitive skin!
These have a good shelf life of 12 months after opening. Which is a good long time since there are only 22 pads in the pack and you will certainly have used them up in that time if you use one a day (They are called 'Daily Cleansing Cushions')
I also think that these are not really environmentally friendly. You are using quite a large face pad, which only lasts for one face wash before you have to throw it away. So if you use these regularly you are creating a lot of waste!
The Neutrogena range is widely available at chemists and supermarkets and high street department stores such as boots and Superdrug. The cost of them is around £3.50.
I have used Neutrogena products before and have been really pleased with the effects but I think I will steer well clear of these in the future!
Neutrogena are a leading brand of drugstore beauty products. Their products are especially aimed at teenagers, but can be used by all. They have a very extensive range, which can be found in most beauty shops (Boots, Superdrug etc) as well as supermarkets.
I saw an advert on TV for their Visibly Clear Blackhead Eliminating Daily Cleansing Cushions. I wanted to try them because they claimed to eliminate and prevent blackheads. They retail at around £3.99 in Superdrug, but I got some for £2 from a discount store.
They come in a box with grey and orange design. The product description is as follows: These breakthrough cleansing cushions combine gentle exfoliating micro-brads on one side and soft conditioning waves on the other to help remove blackheads and prevent their return. Used daily, your skin will look softer, smoother and cleaner. The box created a good storage facility for the cushions as it has a fold down flap to contain them in. The 22 cushions come in a sealed plastic bag, but this can be discarded when you get them.
The cushions themselves are quite hard to describe. They are basically the size and shape of 2 cotton wool pads (the circular discs) on top of each other, with 3/4 of the edge sealed, creating a pocket. You are intended to put 3 fingers inside this and rub each side onto your face. One of the sides has little orange dots on it and this is the exfoliant. It is very gentle and I am convinced the orange dots are just dots of plastic which create the exfoliating surface. However, if you have skin that needs alot of exfoliating, these are probably abit useless as they are not very abrasive. The other side if fluffier and when wet produces a moisturiser. It is supposed to contain anti bacterial properties.
The product is used like this:
1. Slip fingers into the pocket and place the cushion under warn water
2. Massage face with the beaded side to exfoliate
3. Flip cushion over and massage face with conditioning waves with blackhead fighting ingredients
4. Rinse face with warm water
5. Use daily
Upon application, a small lather is created that smells refreshing and clean. After useage, this smell is gone but your face does feel very clean.
I like the fact that you can get more precision and accuracy because you use your fingers, but are not rubbing more bacteria into your face from your fingers because they are separated from the face by the cushion.
I did not like the fact that these are only intended for single use. In my experience, they can be used 2 or 3 times, but you dont really want to use an already used cushion on your face. Therefore it is not friendly to the environment as they cannot be reused or recycled.
I did not see any change to my face during using these, and wouldn't buy them again because I dont think they are anything amazing, definately not the "breakthrough" they described.
