A scrub a day
I do like to use face scrubs as my face always feels so nice and smooth after using them. I tend to use a St Ives scrub that is designed to be used a couple of times a week, but I recently discovered this product and decided to give it a try as it's for daily use. It costs £4.95 from Boots but is currently part of a Buy 2 for £5 deal. The scrub is designed to deep clean and unclog pores, and contains exfoliating micro-beads.
Full of bits!
The scrub comes in a plastic tube which is bright pink in colour - and the product inside is the exact same light shade of pink. It has a quite thick, gel-like texture, and you can see that it has lots of little bits in it. I tend to use a very small amount of this product, and it spreads easily onto the skin. You can definitely feel the scrubby bits inside the gel, but they are not too harsh - this feels quite gentle on the skin but you can certainly feel the exfoliators, and I do think this would be too harsh for sensitive skin.
In terms of the scent, I expected quite a strong fruity smell but instead this is more subtle. You can detect the grapefruit but the scent is very faint and not at all overpowering. In all honesty, I would prefer a slightly stronger fragrance, but this isn't a big problem, and makes this more pleasant to use for anyone who isn't so keen on strong smells!
This doesn't lather up or anything, and it does feel quite thick on the skin, but it washes away really easily - and I always find that my face feels really smooth after using this. I would say this is just as effective as other, stronger scrubs I've used and I like how my face feels after use - it definitely feels silky soft.
In summary ...
Overall I really like this product and I would definitely buy it again. I would prefer a stronger fragrance, but this isn't a massive problem, and as I use so little I think this will last a long time. However I will knock one star off - firstly I think this could be too harsh for more sensitive skin. And, secondly, I think it is too much at the full price. So a good four stars from me!
After running out of my most recent facial wash product, I decided it was time for a change. After a quick browse of the supermarket shelves, I decided on the Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Daily Scrub.
What does the product do?
The product promises to cleanse the skin to leave you with clear, fresh and healthy looking skin. The cleanser claims that it will help to eliminate spots and blemishes. It contains exfoliating beads which will exfoliate the skin and unclog pores leaving the skin deeply clean. As the dead skin cells are brushed away, it should expose the new and brighter skin cells underneath. It purifies the skin without stripping it and it comes with a grapefruit scent to invigorate the senses.
How do you use the product?
Most scrubs are too abrasive to be used on the skin daily, however it is evident from the name that this one is different. The product can be used twice daily, both in the morning and in the night. It should be massaged gently, using circular motions, onto damp skin on the face with the eyes closed. After a minute it should be rinsed off and the face needs to be patted dry.
Packaging and Price
The product comes contained within a plastic bottle which is a beautiful opaque pink colour at the top and a clear section at the bottom through which you can see the product. The brand name is presented using silver and black, and there is some more information given about the product on the back of the bottle. The product will cost you around £4 to buy for 150ml although I bought mine on offer for £3. The product can be bought from large supermarkets, stores such as Boots and Superdrug, as well as a range of online websites.
Application and Performance
The product has the consistency of a gel. It looks pink in colour until it spreads out on the skin at which point it becomes transparent. The gel is packed full of lots of tiny pink particles which are like tiny grains of salt. The product has a strong aroma which is exactly that of grapefruit so if you don't like that aroma then you won't want to use this product. The aroma is very strong to the point where it is almost overpowering and it is bordering on becoming sickly. It doesn't however smell artificial at all and it is very awakening and invigorating.
The product feels completely comfortable on my skin. It hasn't caused me to develop any blemishes as some products can, and it hasn't irritated my skin despite it being heavily perfumed. The aroma is very strong as you apply it to the face and it is unavoidable as you are applying it so close to the nose. You can clearly feel the exfoliating particles on the skin and you can tell that they are plenty of them. Despite them being obviously present, they are gentle on the skin and even when you are applying heavy pressure to the face, they still don't hurt. Nevertheless you can clearly feel that they are doing a good job.
The product is easily rinsed off the face and it is all off within half a minute. My skin feels very fresh and clean after use and it is a really nice feeling. It is fantastic at removing make up, even waterproof mascara and it does leave my face completely clean. You can still smell the aroma for a little while after application. My skin doesn't feel tight or dry after use which some products can cause me to feel but it doesn't particularly my skin feel hydrated either. I do use a moisturiser immediately after use. My skin feels smooth after use and I do think that my complexion looks brighter. I have had fewer blemishes since using the product and I think my skin is in a better condition.
All in all, this product left my skin feeling extremely fresh and clean. It has an invigorating aroma which is awakening and it is a good product to use in the mornings. The product manages to remove all of my make up and leaves the skin smooth and looking brighter. Despite the strong fragrance and exfoliating particles, it is still gentle on my skin and I am very happy with the results.
...from the blurb...
"An Uplifting daily facial scrub for clear, fresh and healthy looking skin everyday.
With powerful MicroClear(R) technology and exfoliating micro-beads the formula unclogs pores to clean deeply and help eliminate spots and blemishes.
The refreshing scrub gently purifies the skin without over-drying, while a wave of pink grapefruit uplifts the senses with a burst on invigorating freshness."
The packaging was what first caught my eye, this tube stands out from the others on the shelf. I love pink grapefruit, so I picked it up to read more. I liked the idea of exfoliating daily, as well as the product being more gentle to use, I don't have to worry about whether it's the right day to be using it or not. Decision made!
Once in use, the bottle, which resembles an extra large tube of toothpaste, stands on it's cap - something I always like as it means the contents are still easy to dispense when you get down to the last bit. The cap is a good, snug fit to the tube, too, meaning that it doesn't get filled with shower water, one of my pet hates.
Okay, it has to be said that flipping the cap of this tube doesn't release the same "burst of invigorating freshness" as cutting into a fresh grapefruit. That said, it does have an enjoyably tangy and fresh fragrance. Perhaps also a bit sweeter than the real thing, but not cloying.
Pretty clear pink with tiny white specks - those are the exfoliating bits! Thick enough not to spread too much, but it still runs out of the tube easily.
I only need a blob the size of my little fingernail to thoroughly cleanse my face. It spreads out evenly and massages in easily without excessive lathering. I use my fingertips to massage the product in small circles around my face. I also feel that the cleansing component gently lifts any excess oil from my skin.
My skin feels freshened and clear immediately after using, but not over dried. I do still get some small blackheads and the occasional spot or pimple though, so the promise that blemishes will be "eliminated" is not fulfilled.
This product is quite expensive at around £4.00 a tube. However, I think it's worth the money as it does do a good job (better than others I've tried) and it lasts for ages.
I bought this scrub about four weeks ago, along with the moisturiser from the same line. I chose the daily scrub as I have clogged pores on my nose so I have to exfoliate often. It cost me approximately £4.50 and I got the moisturiser free with it.
The product comes packaged in a clear squeezy tube with a pink band across the middle, which says the name of the product. It has a clear flip-top lid on the bottom.
I have had mixed feeling towards the product itself. It smells amazing, fresh and zingy, and is brilliant when you need something to wake you up in the morning. You also only need a small amount each time you use it as it lathers up so well. The exfoliating beads are tiny, which means they are gentle enough for everyday use, however they dissolve far too quickly for my liking. You don't have chance to have a good scrub before they disappear! After using this product, my skin feels wonderfully clean, however it can also feel quite tight, so I'd definitely recommend using a moisturiser or serum after!
IMPORTANT ADVICE: Do not under any circumstance try to use this as a face mask. I tried leaving this scrub on my face for about 5 minutes whilst I washed my hair, in an attempt to give my skin a deep cleanse, but it left my skin dry and VERY red.
Finally, I haven't really noticed a difference in my skin after using this product for a month. This product would do perfectly well if you were looking for a basic cleanser that will make your skin feel clean whilst slightly brightening it. However, if you are looking for something to work wonders on your skin, I suggest you look elsewhere.
I recently bought this as I had ran out of my usual Soap & Glory face wash, but didnt feel like replacing it with the same one as it usually costs around £7. After spending around half an hour in boots I decided to go for Neutrogena, mainly because they're products were on a 2 for £5 offer - and I am glad I did!
The product comes in a squeezy bottle that stands on its lid. The product is really easy it dispense and allows you to squeeze out as little or as much as you want - although you only need a pea sized amount. The face scrub is qiute thick and pink in colour and the bottle is pale pink on the top and clear on the bottom half so you can see the product inside. To use just apply a small amount to wet hands and rub into your wet face using your fingertips, after half a minute or so the face scrub starts to foam up slightly. The scrub is quite smooth on the face and the beads are quite small and fine, so it doesnt feel like its scratching or skin and is really quite friendly to the skin. The best thing about this scrub is the smell which is a strong and fresh grapefruit smell - which is unusual for a facescrub as most of them are fragrance free.
It leaves my skin feeling lovely and soft afterwards and I noticed that my usually dry and flaky areas seemed well moisturised with no signs of any flakiness :)
I would definitely recommend this product, it smells good and leaves the skin feeling smooth, moisturised and refreshed. It normally retails for around £4.49 but at the moment boots have it on an offer where you can get two Neutrogena products for £5 so I bought this one and the moisturiser - although I havent had to use the moisturiser yet as this face scrub leaves my skin perfect!
I have been using this Neutrogena scrub for almost a year now. I first bought it along with some other skin products when I was out shopping. This was a bit of an impulse buy for me as I had never used it before but knew that I liked Neutrogena products in general.
The scrub comes in a squeezable plastic bottle with a frosted plastic lid that flips open. There is a pea sized application hole through which you can squeeze out the product, this is the perfect size on this bottle as it allows you to take as little or as much as you want without wastage. The top half of the bottle is a matte pink colour with some information and branding on it. The bottle portion of the plastic bottle is clear which means as the product begins to deplete you can see exactly how much is in there. This is really handy for me as I like to cut bottles open when they are empty to get every last drop out - with this design you can see exactly how much is left. The bottle is very practical and easy to use, even with slippery hands. I also think the design is really nice to look at too and goes well in my bathroom along with my other products.
The scrub is really fine in consistency, with really tiny beads that are similar in size to a grain of fine sand. They are also dispersed in quantity throughout the scrub making it packed with beads. I like to use scrubs that vary in coarseness so I can choose depending on how my skin is feeling. Because this scrub is much finer and less coarse than other I use it if my skin is feeling at all sensitive or perhaps if I had sunburn. I really like the consistency of it because it still feels quite smooth despite being a scrub. It rubs really nicely into my skin, gives a light abrasive touch and rubs into a foam or lather after half a minute. It feels really nice to use and leaves me skin feeling super soft and clean.
The best part about the scrub is probably the smell! It has a really intense and punchy grapefruit smell to it which is so fresh and vibrant it is really nice to use. I love really strong fruity smells and this one is quite unusual in terms of other scrubs I have used. The only other fruit scrub I have used it St Ives and this is a far more creamy apricot smell. This grapefruit scrub has such a delicious smell and the sour and sweet notes of the fruit leave my face feeling fresh for the rest of the day.
The scrub will set you back roughly £4.50 which is relatively expensive for a face scrub. It recommends you use this daily but I tend to only need it once a week. I've been using it consistently every week for a year and am just beginning to run out of the product. For me this price is reasonable considering it lasts me a year but if you use your scrubs more regularly then expect it to run out in a couple of months.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this sharp, fruity scrub - but only for weekly use.
I mainly bought this because I wanted to buy a new face exfoliator and it was 2 for £5 in Boots so I bought this and the Pink Grapefruit Cream Cleanser. So that means I only paid £2.50 for this scrub!
The packaging is a nice pink plastic tube on the top half and the bottom half is clear so you can see the scrub and how much product you have left. It is a squeeze tube so you can control how much you use which is always a bonus and good for people who do not like pots or things like that as it is quite hygienic.
The product is a pink gel with small white exfoliating beads which I like as you can really scrub your face to get rid of all of the oil build up and dead skin. It is named as a 'daily scrub' and I would definitely say that it is gentle enough to use every day however as it is an exfoliator, I would use it either every other day or every third day as I believe that it's not very good to over exfoliate your skin because your stripping it of it's natural oils. It does remove any flakiness on my skin and any oils but saying that it leaves my skin a bit dehydrated which is common for me because I have dry skin anyway but a good moisturiser afterwards normally does the job. The smell at first was quite strong and I did not particularly like it however it has grown on me over time and I am quite fond of it because it feels fresh and my skin feels fresh after using it. The value for money is excellent, I have had this over the course of 5 months but have only been using it for 3 and I have reached an inch above the cap, but I have also been switching it up with my Clean and Clear Morning Burst Exfoliator.
You can buy this at Boots, Superdrug, Wilkinson, Tesco or Chemists for around £5 but there are normally offers on so check those out.
I would recommend this to anyone from dry to oil skin and even for sensitive skin because it is very gentle an great value for money!
Hope this helped! x

Reasons for buying
I was immediately drawn to this product because of the packaging, I hadn't seen a pink facial scrub before and quite like pink grapefruit, all of those things made me want to buy this product.
£4.49 at boots prices may differ elsewhere (you may get it slightly cheaper at tesco for example).
What it's designed to do
It's a facial scrub and facial scrubs are supposed to exfoliate the skin leaving it soft and smooth. This facial scrub is supposed to help eliminate blemishes and spots: "helps eliminate spots and blemishes with a fresh clean feel.", whilst it does leave the face feeling clean & refreshed based on my experience it doesn't fully rid your skin of spots, i've had the odd one using this product.
Also it's interesting how they use the word 'helps' which implies it doesn't fully get rid of spots and blemishes.
I love the way this product smells! it's just like strong pink grapefruit. I'd buy the product again just for this, it's great to use it on the face and makes it feel clean.
Putting it on
It says on the packaging you're supposed to wet your face and then apply it however I've done it skipping this step and it's still worked fine. The next step it says to follow is wet face to remove the product. Doing this and then patting/rubbing your face with a towel really gets it off far quicker, otherwise it'd take twice as long using water to get it off. A bit of water and then removing it with a towel works efficiently.
How it looks on
It looks clear pink at first then when you rub it in it looks like a white lather. The exfoliates are small and you can barely see them. You can feel the scrub working when removing it (that's when you can feel it exfoliating, but when it's just on your face all it feels/looks like is a facial wash.
Like i mentioned before great smell
Leaves your face feeling great
This isn't harsh enough that it specifies it is advised to be used once or twice week, it can be used to a daily/regular basis
I would say it lasts a fair amount of time, mine's nearly towards the end and i've had it for a couple of months and my sister's been using it too
Doesn't dehydrate skin
Wish it was a few pounds cheaper, however it is a fairly newly released product & seems to have been available in America longer than the UK.
Doesn't really make skin completely clear therefore the name's misleading
I like to make sure that a daily scrub-based cleaning product is part of my skin care routine as I feel that it keeps the circulation healthy and also I like to be sure that I'm getting the benefit of both the removal of dead skin cells as well as a daily wash - a hangover from having had very bad skin in my early 20s.
Equally however I do operate on a budget and as such I am prone to swapping and changing between products and trying new highstreet options that I can get on offer in supermarkets. As a result I recently tried a bottle of Neutrogena's Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Daily Scrub.
As I'm now coming to the end of the bottle of this product I looked at buying another one today but unfortunately can't find this for much less than Boots' current price of £4.95. This product did last week - about a month with daily use - but I still think that virtually £5 is a lot to spend when there are always other options on offer.
This product comes in a clear pink bottle which stands on its lid. The writing on the bottle is predominantly white. The packaging clearly shows the bright pink colour of the product and also lets you see some of the scrub grains included inside it. This product claims to "eliminate" spots and blemishes which even now with my skin under pretty good control is a selling point for me.
The first thing you notice about this product when you flip the lid and dispense some of it is a punchy, fresh and vibrant fruity scent. I don't find this to be overly chemical or faked either, whilst it is strong it is also very pleasant and it is a refreshing start to the day (even with my early starts!).
I dispense an amount about the size of a 50p piece into the palm of my hand and use water to mix that into a bubbly, soapy consistency before applying to my face. I use a small circular rubbing motion to make the most of the exfoliating qualities. I find that the product would feel very thick and drying if not mixed with plenty of water but when it is diluted this is a very pleasing scrub. My bottle lasted about a month, with a little left over, and in that time my skin felt in great condition and did not have any break outs. I also felt that this product copes well with getting rid of the pretty terrible combination of make up and London underground dust and grime as my pores were looking a lot better when I was using it.
I do think this is a strong product in it's price range; I would happily have bought another bottle if there had been another offer but as I mentioned above, there are many other products in the same vein which will frequently be on offer so I wouldn't say this is strong enough to justify spending more money when it isn't needed. I would say that this is the best smelling product of it's type that I've tried and that does make for a good kick start to the day.
Due to a lack of loyalty to any particular brand or line I tend to purchase a different face wash/ scrub every time my previous one runs out, to try something new. I hadn't seen this one before, and there is still a 'new' flash on the packaging. I certainly wasn't disappointed, and might even re-purchase this one!
This face scrub is in the usual, tapered plastic squeezy package with lid/dispenser at the narrow end on the bottom. There's nothing different/ innovative about its mechanics, but there doesn't need to be as this is a format that works. In terms of look I was drawn to the fresh pink of the packaging, and its clean lines. As a morning face scrub you want something that shouts out clean, fresh and tidy and this one really hits the mark. As mentioned, there is also a 'new' flash - though I am not sure how long that stays on for once a product is out. I certainly hadn't seen it before.
The pink colour on the packaging is replicated by the scrub itself. It's a fresh, pink colour - very much along the lines of its namesake fruit. But where it really gets its name is from the amazing smell. The main reason I plumped for this scrub was to give me a refreshing, invigorating wake-up in the morning and when you open the tube and smell the product you're halfway there already! The grapefruit smell is spot-on, it's delicious (much more so than pink grapefruit itself!) you really could eat it, and it makes me super hungry when using before breakfast.
This is a straight-up face scrub, there are no dual face mask features or anything like that, so the consistency is clear and fresh rather than creamy and thick. The product also contains micobeads, giving it a gritty consistency. However the 'scrub' element is not harsh and abrasive, it gives you a feeling of gentle exfoliation.
Application is straightforward. You only need a pea sized amount as despite its non-creamy consistency the scrub foams up when you lather it onto your face. You can feel the micro beads working on application, and the effect is a feeling if immediate rejuvenation. It's a great morning wake-up.
The product is not sticky, and doesn't take too much face-splashing to clean from your face. It doesn't leave residue once rinsed, nor does it dry out the skin.
The directions say that this is a morning and evening scrub. However I don't think that the smell, so associated with morning, works as an evening scrub, so do not use at night.
THE PROMISE vs RESULTS
The front of the packaging shouts out "helps eliminate spots and blemishes with a fresh clean feel". I do not suffer from consistently bad skin, but have not had any breakouts since using this product. However, the promise that I bought this product for was the fresh clean feel and it certainly delivers on that front. As I could smell the product before purchasing I half knew this was the case already, but it also proves true to the promise in terms of leaving you fresh and invigorated due to the slight exfoliating properties and the consistency of the product.
On the back there are various other promises. These include the product not overdrying the skin, which is true from my point of view. It also promises that " a wave of pink grapefruit uplifts the senses with a burst of invigorating freshness" which is also definitely true.
I paid £4.99 for this product at Boots. This seems slightly higher than average, as a lot of comparable brands have £3.99 offerings. However I was drawn in by the look and scent of the prodcut, and after using I think it was worth that extra £1.
Also, as an aside for right now, facial skincare is currently on 3 for 2 at Boots - a great time to stock up on products!
I frist bought the Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Daily Scrub as it was on offer in superdrug, 2 products from the pink grapefruit range for £5. I have always been keen on pink grapefruit so I thought I would give it a try.
From the first use I noticed that the face scrub smelt delicious, exactly like a juicy fresh pink grapefruit which had just been sliced open. It made my skin feel fresh, alive, and clean. After using it in the shower and spending time paying attention to the problem areas of my skin by giving them a good scrub, my skin no longer felt as if it was sluggish and dull.
After using this daily scrub a few times my friends began to notice that my skin looked excellent and were often asking me what my secret was. A few friends began to use the pink grapefruit range and loved it as much as I do.
In a recent review I stated that I was on the look out for products that will help with my acne. This was one I bought a few months ago now as a part of that search for the perfect product for me.
Who Are Neutrogena?
Neutrogena is a household name now but do many people actually know anything about them beyond that they do skin care products?
They have been working with dermatologists to devise their skin care products for over 25 years. All their products have been clinically proven to meet the claims they make.
This comes in a triangular tube which is thin at the top and thick and circular at the bottom where it is closed with an opaque white flip top lid.. The top half of this is an opaque pink plastic with the bottom half being clear plastic allowing you to see the product inside. The scrub is a very thick pink gel which looks like it has tiny beads of air in it. I assume these are the microbeads.
The top half of the label on the front tells me that this this a new product and is visibly clean pink grapefruit daily scrub. The bottom half tells me that it has microclear technology and "helps eliminate spots and blemishes with a fresh, clean feel". Below this there is the Neutrogena name and logo and it tells me that it has been developed with dermatologists.
The back of the pack tells me that this is designed to produce healthy looking skin and that the microclear technology and microbeads help to unclog pores enabling the product to clean deep inside your skin and eliminate blemishes. This same information is repeated in two other languages. There are also directions, ingredients and contact information. There is also the shelf life which is 12 months although it lasts nearer 2-3 when used twice every day and information that tells me the tube contains 150ml. Unfortunately the plastic is LDPE 4 which is not commonly recycled although check local recycling facilities.
This tube stands on its end making it easy to get even the very last bit out. The lid flips up easily and I squeeze a bit about the size of a two pence piece onto my hand. The scrub itself is a very thick gel. I could turn my hand sideways and the gel would stay in place. As soon as the gel is on my hand I can smell the grapefruit. This isn't chemically at all but very refreshing and fruity.
Usually I'd work my facial products between my hands then rub it onto my face but since this is a scrub containing microbeads I didn't want any to be wasted; so instead I hold the gel in one hand and use two to three fingers of my other hand to pick up a little bit and rub it into my face.
Since the gel is so thick it is easy to use this way and causes no problem to pick up a little bit on the end of my fingers. When rubbing it into my skin it lathers up easily and a blob of gel the size of a two pence piece is enough to produce enough lather to cover my whole face. I can feel the microbeads working and whilst it isn't as harsh as some other scrubs I see this as a good thing since it's being used on my face. It does however definitely feel like a scrub.
Washing off is relatively easy although if you're simply splashing water on your face it remove it you will need to do this a few times to make sure it's all removed.
After rinsing off my skin feels incredibly clean and fresh and you can tell this really has worked deep down in my pores. I have used other deep cleansers before but none of them have felt as if they have worked as deep as this one. Even when running my fingers over my skin I can feel the difference in how clean it is after having used this. When I follow this with toner then the cotton wool pad I use remains completely clean.
It does cause my skin to feel slightly tight, almost as if someone had attached mini elastic bands inside it and stretched them. This did take some getting used to but I wouldn't say it was a bad feeling - just unusual. It did take some getting used to but now I just accept it as a part of the effect of this scrub and it doesn't bother me at all.
The scent of this product does linger on my skin but only very delicately. It's not recognisable as grapefruit anymore just a fresh, fruity scent but this would be easily overpowered by any added moisturiser or other products you use.
As for a difference in my skin I would say that there wasn't any real benefits for the first week but I persisted since I had most of the tube left. I'm glad I did! The scrub has helped to prevent breakouts by a fairly large degree and the spots I do get now seem to disappear quicker then they did before. It's also brightened my skin tone in general causing other, more minor, blemishes to be less noticeable.
I'm prone to dry skin and despite the tightening feeling and the deep cleansing I haven't found that it dries my skin at all, it doesn't moisturise it either but this isn't a problem for me as I can add moisturiser if I need to.
Overall I would recommend this product but it is one you need to stick with in order to see any real benefits as these won't show for the first week or so.
This product contains both SLS and parabens so this is something to be aware of if you are avoiding these.
This product is suitable for vegetarians and as far as I can tell it is for vegans too but check before purchasing.
Pricing And Availability
I bought mine from ASDA for £3 but it is widely available both online and in high street supermarkets shops such as Boots for between £3 and £5.
For that price I would highly recommend it so long as you have the patience to persist with it. I'm giving it four out of five stars due to the delay in any real results being seen.
