I have recently run out of a moisturiser made by a more expensive brand but as I'm now trying to watch my pennies I have decided to try 'Nivea Aqua sensation day cream'. I bought this from Boots on a three for two deal so although the product was priced at £4.99, I got this, the face wash and the eye make up remover for £8.37 - not bad for a skincare regime!
The packaging suggests is blue and silver, suggesting freshness and hydration both a good thing for a moisturising product. The product states it's for normal and combination skin. My skin is combination, I do have quite an oily t-zone but also some fine lines around my mouth and on my forehead (But I'm only 29, surely too young for botox!)
The product is called an 'Invigorating Day Cream' and states 'Instant wake-up effect and 24h moisture for a fresh and radiant complexion'. That sounds like the stuff for me! It contains magnesium, ginseng and cucumber extracts.
A nice touch on the packaging is a little scale on the side which shows the age range the product is designed for. This one is for those in their 30's so about right for me.
I started to use the product a few weeks ago and expected it to be nowhere near as good as my previous moisturiser but I have been pleasantly surprised. I would say that the cream is quite heavy when it goes on, especially for a day cream. You really need to leave it to soak in for quite a while before you put your make up on or anything.
The cream is a light blue colour and has quite a strong smell - my husband always says I smell of holidays after I've used it. The smell definitely isn't unpleasant but it is quite strong.
I find that the cream really does have a wake up effect - I used it after a holiday weekend. I hadn't had much sleep and too much to drink and after the cream had melted in, I could see a difference in my face. I think that's great for £4.99.
I haven't seen a huge improvement in the fine lines on my forehead but I also don't think they've got any worse.
I think my skin does feel well moisturised, but I wouldn't recommend this if you had very oily skin as it is so heavy.
I don't tend to buy a lot of Nivea creams as they tend to be a little beyond my price range and whilst they do the job, there are other creams which I prefer. However this was on special offer and being easily tempted I decided to try it out.
I bought the pot at the start of January and it's still lasting now into February. Which for a small pot and for someone who slaps on face cream at least four times a day is pretty good.
First impressions were that the box was quite attractive in blue and silver but for the actual size of the pot was much too large. You probably could have fitted two pots into the box to be honest. It was a waste of cardboard. When you take off the lid, the pot is sealed with a foil seal, giving the impression of freshness. The cream itself is a very pale blue - almost white and has a faint musky smell about it. To the touch it is cool and thin. I found I didn't need to use a lot of the cream to get full coverage of my face. Having very dry skin, it was quickly absorbed and my skin did feel well moisturised. However, I did notice after ten minutes, my skin felt dry again and I needed to reapply. This was particularly noticeable after a shower when my skin needs a massive amount of cream.
As a result of the cream, I now only use it as a top up moisturiser, for when I only need a little bit. Mornings and nights when I need a lot I tend to use a thicker, more suitable one.
For the price that I paid and for a small pot to keep in your handbag or make up bag, it is a nice cream which does the job. However I'm not racing out to buy it again and I think I'll stick to other creams in the future.
Normally I would avoid Nivea creams as in the past I have found them heavy and greasy, but after trying a free sample of this I was pleasantly surprised. The cream contains vitamin E and cucumber extract to give 24 hour hydration. After being so impressed with the sample I invested in a jar.
What I particularly love about this cream is that it is really light and left my skin feeling refreshed. A small amount goes a long way and it sinks into the skin quickly. This is good for me as I often apply my foundation soon after my moisturiser. It is non greasy and leaves skin feeling soft and smooth. The cream feels quite cool when you first apply it to your skin and it practically odourless. After only a couple of weeks using this cream both in the morning and at night I noticed how visibly more radiant my skin looked.
I am only on my twenties and are not primarily concerned with the anti-ageing properties when I buy a face cream. But this cream does claim to fight skin ageing and also protect against UV filters.
Face creams are generally quite expensive but compared to most on the market I think this one comes with a fair price tag for such a well known brand. I picked mine up for £6.49 in a local supermarket.
After taking shelter in Boots the chemist last week as the rain poured down outside I decided to have a look at the face creams as my current one is almost finished and I always like to see if there is a bargain or two! Now I was surprised at the lack of offers but as the security guard was looking at me rather strangely (I had walked up and down the same aisle about 12 times!) I felt rather inclined to make a purchase. So in my impulse moment I picked up the Nivea Aqua sensations day cream.
I admit it stood out in its bright blue and silver box and as Nivea is a well know name I thought I couldn't go wrong. Also the name sounded rather interesting. 'sensation day cream' hmmmm was I in for a tingly treat?
*NIVEA Aqua sensation day Cream*
So this cream claims to -
* Be a light, cooling gel-cream
* Invigorate the skin and your senses
* To be quickly absorbed into the skin
* To have an immediate wake-up effect, eliminating signs of tiredness
* leave the complexion looking fresh and radiant
* provide 24 hour hydration
Sounds like a dream if it works. I especially liked the idea of having an immediate wake up effect as anything to help me wake up in the morning is welcome! I had high hopes for this impulse buy.
* What Was It Like To Use? *
Firstly the cream itself is rather thick light blue/white cream. It smoothes on to the skin very easily and immediately makes the skin feel softer. I am pleased to say it instantly refreshes as well, almost like splashing your face with water or having a light breeze drifting over the skin. It was quite pleasant, nothing too much so you felt like you were having an allergic reaction but definitely some form of refreshing sensation. Great to help wake you up in the morning.
The cream once applied did feel rather wet but surprisingly soaked into the skin within seconds. However it did leave my skin slightly sticky although smooth and it took a good few minutes before ALL traces of the cream had disappeared.
In my opinion it did instantly hydrate my skin however after 30 minutes or so (on the occasional day I don't wear make up) and especially after coming out of the bath or shower I found my skin felt dry again. It didn't hydrate my skin as much as previous face creams and that was a little disappointing as I felt I had to reapply. Which obviously wouldn't be good if I had put make up on!
Disappointingly it didn't make my face glow or beam with radiance, once the cream had sunk it that was that. A bit of a sunken ship really. I think it boasts more then it achieves which is a shame.
The scent of the sensation cream is very fresh and light, slight hint of cucumber and rose. But the scent is quite strong compared to others and does stay on the skin. Whether your ok with that is your preference, I personally don't mind and was happy with the fresh smell.
* Price & Packaging *
The actual tub it comes in is really rather pleasing to the eye. Quite a heavy duty, very smooth light blue tub with a white plastic screw on lid. But it gives the impression of getting a lot more for your money then what you actually get. Coming in at nearly £5.00 for a 50ml tub is a bit of daylight robbery. I wouldn't spend this much money on this again, no matter how many dodgy looks I get from the security guards!
* Conclusion *
In my opinion this cream is best for people who want a refreshing light cream for general use and for normal skin. It does not hydrate for long and would defiantly not be beneficial to those with dry skin.
For the price I would advise you to look around as this doesn't live up to expectations. Yes it does look pretty on my bathroom shelve but what matters most is how pretty it makes my face look and it does nothing that a bog standard cream and some ice cold water wouldn't do.
Thanks for Reading.
