Advantages: Nice smell and easy to use
Disadvantages: Too thick to feel as if it's really cleansing the skin

A good deal

I picked this Nivea facewash up in Boots recently, taking advantage of a three for two deal on products. Bought on its own, this costs £3.49 for a 150ml bottle, which also gets you 12 points if you use your Boots Advantage Card.
The cleansing gel promises to cleanse and purify, and is for daily use. I was really after something to use in the shower, so this sounded just what I needed.

Nice and simple

The packaging is pretty simple, a flat, slightly oval-shaped bottle with a white flip top lid. Inside the contents are a nice blue colour, and gel has small visible air bubbles in it.
The gel simply squeezes out of the bottle, and it has a very thick consistency. Applying it to my face, it is quite heavy and has an almost sticky texture, and feels as though it is sitting on the surface of the skin rather than deep cleansing. It doesn't really foam up or lather, and at first it is a bit strange to use as it is unlike other cleansers I've tried out. It does have that lovely fresh Nivea fragrance we are all familiar with - but it is quite subtle and not at all overpowering - it is just right for this type of product. I tend to massage this into my skin and then leave this on my face for a minute or two to let it get to work.
Washing this gel off is a bit tricky as it does have such a rich, thick texture, and it doesn't simply wash away - it takes a little more work. However, once you've got rid of the gunk, it does leave skin feeling very soft and clean.

Sitting pretty

Overall this is a decent enough cleanser, but to me, because it sort of 'sits' on the surface of the skin, it doesn't feel like its really giving a good, thorough clean to my face. It's pleasant enough to use and I think it does clean my skin, I prefer something that foams or lathers and really gets to work on any grime - this one feels like it's giving more of a surface cleanse than a deep clean. So it's okay, and I will certainly carry on using it until the bottle is empty - but I doubt I'd be buying it again.
Summary: Not bad but nothing special
